AUAK Chronicles

On a world with four moons and two suns, orbiting a black hole on the outskirts of the galaxy, adventure awaits across land and sea, underground and into the air to the sky-islands. But is even more going on than what is known?

Introduction

The foundations had been dug.

”Alive we stand to honor, the law of death living, our fathers’ lasting traditions.” Matthew Clevell, a middle-aged man, with fairly long white hair and a strong face, raised a hand with two 100 Dralcan coins high into the air for the anxious crowd to see. With mere a flinch of an eyebrow, the white dragon scales floated off his hand a short distance into the air; spinning slowly, they reflected the light of the nearly aligned Roia which lit this special morning’s sky–the Ringing in, or Birth, of a new year tomorrow. The crowd stood in silent anticipation as the first Dralcan floated towards the new finished pit in the ground which would serve as the foundation for the Majaria side of the new bridge to be built across the Maj Avaurio. The second coin floated a few feet higher, and zipped across the water for the city of Thridd, in Tridroal, on the the continent of Doëlêl–Majaria is part of Vunñar–, leaving a glittering blue and gold tail in its wake, as it passed over dozens of rocky islands, and around the old, and severely damaged, city-bridge. On the other shore, it would find a similarly dug hole and an eagerly awaiting crowd watching The Eternal’s image shimmering on the empty stage as if a cloud; but for those in Tridd, The Eternal Matthew Clevell was only in their minds.

“Alive we pay for soil in the law of existence taken for into the chaos we build!” As the coins came to rest in the deepest point of the holes, a glistening geyser of blue, green, red and gold light erupted from them as the crowds cheered the payment. The Eternal--not that he truly was, but of a race long lived, and he being the oldest, the title fit, though he was not as old as some believed--Matthew Clevell, now finished with the foundation payment ceremony, walked amongst the thousands of people of the many various races which inhabited the Avel and Kaya, celebrating the beginning of the bridge project, and the end of the year 3884 by the Brraan Maarrowwen calendar date. This was an especially large celebration as it marked 1000 years of relative world-wide peace, and tonight would also be a rare night, in which Kaalru, the Alru of Chaos, is full on the same night in which Vialru, the Alru of Order, and Onalru, the Alru of Benevolence, are also full–Pualru, the Alru of Vengence, is always in opposition to Onalru, was currently hiding in the day sky. The coincidence of this alignment with the new year, and the 1500 years since the end of the Great Kaatyclyzym, and 1000 years of peace, millions of people, of all many races had gathered from far and wide over the Avel, and across the Auriese. The Great AUAK Race was scheduled to begin at the next midday, at the Roia Ring Burst.

“It was good to hear some of the old speech, my young friend.” A grovelled deep voice caught The Eternal Matthew’s ear. The man who looked to be no more than mid-60s, for a human, turned his head to the voice he recognized, and with a smile, he said to the very venerable Valswynn Elf with long grey hair and wrinkled grin, “Viddonek rt ddon, ddon rt viddon.”

The old elf began to laugh as the two embraced each other after their 45 year absence. “Even better in the old language! How old are you, now?” the elf asked.

“Old enough to have known the old days, young enough to still remember.”

“Always a mystery, you, someday I’ll find out how much you really know. There are still too many mysteries left in the world. And everyone knows my love of mystery, but–“

“I told you what you needed to know, when you needed to know it. Always it has been, always it shall be. After 312 years, 14 months, 23 days, 3 hours, 87 minutes, and some odd seconds, you still need to listen more.”

“No doubt about your memory; have I been your student that long?”

“I taught you before you studied me.” The elf could see the memories of untold generations flowing through the eyes of his much older teacher. The Eternal smiled, turned and continued down the row of tables, scratching the beak of a Chyas-tangu youth hiding in his mother’s feathers as the whirling motors of the Majestic Pelican roared overhead as the massive vessel sailed over the city.

Please feel free to update any pages you wish. There are lots of holes that need filling. Look for a "notes" page in the section you wish you edit, or edit the section html page if that works easier, then e-mail the page (without changing the page name numbers) to 'auak@williamsrdan.us' and I will add the updates.
