Spectroscopic Binary

Analyzing a star's spectrum unveils periodic oscillations in the wavelengths of spectral lines around the average wavelength, interpreted as a Doppler shift. As the star approaches during its orbit, the observed lines shift to shorter wavelengths, while as the star moves away in its orbit, the perceived lines shift to longer wavelengths.
