The city pool opened in 1964, about this time the name of the park was changed to Hagelin Park, after Richard “Pete” Hagelin, the council member who had spearheaded the effort to build the outdoor community pool.
In 1966, the Cheney-Medical Lake Rotary club introduced landscaping plans for the area around the pool. A number of civic groups donated trees, shrubs, flowers, and even benches. The Tilicum Club planted a number of trees and shrubs in the park in 1968.
