Earl Moos

Earl Milton Moos was a charter member of the Cheney Lions Club, as well as a member of the IOOF (Odd Fellows) lodge in Cheney.

Born 5 July 1909 in Edwall, Washington, the son of John and Martha (Weidman) Moos. Earl attended school in Edwall. He graduated from the Cheney Normal School and began his career as a teacher in Waterville. It was there, he met and married Lois Jackson in 1931.

The family removed to Cheney at the outset of World War II. Earl supported the war effort working at Fairchild Air Force base. He became a crew chief for repair of B-17 bombers.

Through his involvement with the Lions Club, Earl was active in civic projects, particularly in developing the park/field that bears his name. In 1966, Moos Field was dedicated and added to the city’s inventory of parks.

After the war, Earl returned to teaching, retiring in 1974. Unlike most parks named for people, Earl was living when the park was dedicated in his honor. Lois passed away in 1994 and Earl followed in 2001.
