Macro-context

The macro-context of HF and HF methods

Waterson et al 2015 provide an excellent summary of the progression of HF method development (up to 2015). They provide a critical analysis of the application of HF methods to the context of sociotechnical systems. The next phase of HF methods application will have to focus on cyberphysical systems and how humans interact with work systems and social systems.

Salmon et al 2017 provide a critical perspective on the suitability of HF methods to the current context of complex systems in organisations and industry as well a society at large (e.g. the era of digital and disruptive enterprises, changing work paradigms, systems research and application, and the impact of climate change affecting social cohesion).

Frameworks for systems such as Cynefin provide for contextualised application of different methods for different states of the system.
