The Anterior Cingulate Cortex: Decoding a Mysterious Brain Region (Sense of Mind)
The anterior cingulate cortex (ACC) is the front-most part of the cingulate cortex. It's involved in several complex cognitive functions, such as:
Empathy, Impulse control, Emotion, Decision-making, Emotional expression, Attention allocation, Mood regulation.
The ACC signals error and reward events that inform decisions about switching or staying with current behavior. It's also involved in linking reward and punishment information to behavior, and in particular, to actions.
The ACC forms a collar around the corpus callosum, which relays neural signals between the right and left hemispheres
