Navigation & The Interface

It looks a bit different and has some different features

Work began assembling the digital portion of the research database in 2014 into a mind-mapping style desktop application. Many of the pages here are generated through its translation to the web.

The main page, you will notice, is divided into two sections.

The top frame, in The Brain terminology, is referred to as "The Plex". See TheBrain Web Plex to the right. It's power over traditional menu style navigation to convey relationships and organise content should be apparent, albeit, perhaps not immediately intuitive.

We decided to run with this form of navigation as it most closely resembles the work as we see it behind the scenes - TheBrain Desktop Plex. Unfortunately a number of key features that make the desktop application so appealing don't translate to the web interface via export. Things like link types and information flow , thought tags and a number of other cosmetics are not displayed here but perhaps the greatest loss is the severely limited search capabilities compared to the desktop app.

We are working with the present program constraints by providing a subset of links and a traditional nav menu on the left and look forward to the coming new release of TheBrain 9 which promises extended functionality in this and many other regards.

Included in some thoughts are images captured from the desktop plex. You will see the difference immediately between the two plex implementations. These images are generally there for good reason and often contain small elements of detail or explain relationships further in some way.
