Problem
A problem in ITIL refers to the underlying cause of one or more incidents whose cause has not yet been identified. The goal of problem management is to proactively seek a permanent solution and prevent future incidents. An example is identifying a structural issue in the WiFi infrastructure after multiple incidents of WiFi outages.
Event
An event is a change in the state of an IT component that may indicate normal operation (informative) or a deviation (warning or exceptional). Events are often automatically generated by monitoring tools and can lead to incidents if they have a negative impact on IT services.
Incident
An incident is an unexpected interruption or reduction in the quality of an IT service. Incident management focuses on quickly restoring the service to ensure business continuity. Examples include server failures, printer malfunctions, or network issues.
Service Request
A service request is a formal request from a user for a service, such as requesting software installation or resetting a password. Service requests are usually pre-approved, routine requests that do not cause direct interruption like incidents.
Change
A change refers to a modification in an IT service or infrastructure, often in response to problems or to implement improvements. Changes are managed through change management to minimize risks and maintain control over implementations.
