Outstanding Issue
- 12.26.25: Reminded support, in the help desk ticket above, about hidden private thoughts reappearing after TheBrain is closed and then reopened
- Later: Video documentation provided at John's request, along with a fresh output long
- 12.3025: Reply from Support
- We’ve confirmed that this is working as currently designed in TheBrain 15. The Hide Private Thoughts (and Show Forgotten Thoughts) options are session-based settings, meaning they apply only for the current session. When TheBrain is closed and reopened, those options reset to their default state.
- This behavior is intentional for now, to avoid situations where users might think their private thoughts have disappeared permanently and not realize they were hidden earlier in a previous session.
- That said, the team does recognize that a persistent hide setting would be useful. We’re actively considering changing this in the future so the setting can remain enabled across sessions, likely with a visible indicator or banner to make it clear when private thoughts are hidden. < Fix pending . . . .
- 12.31.25: My Reply to Support
- Since the *hide private thoughts* option has been persistent for as long as I can remember (at least since TB7), I would very much like to see this persistence *restored* in TB15. Losing a standard feature like this is yet another speed bump in the daily work flow.
- As for providing visual notification that these thoughts are hidden, my recommendation would be to put a privacy lock icon on the top toolbar (see the attached screenshot #5) ~ and that lock could then reflect the current status of private thoughts:
- Red for hidden
- Green for visible
- Alternatively, an "eye" icon might be even better for the privacy status indicator on the tool bar since open or closed would be unmistakable.
- Since forgotten thoughts have (to my knowledge) always been hidden *by default*, I don't think a visible indicator is as critical for them. However, an icon for them could always be added to the toolbar, next to the private thought status indicator, if it would be a help
- 01.09.25: Reply from Support < Decision pending . . . .
- Your feedback is noted and has been shared with the team for consideration as we continue refining this behavior in TheBrain 15. The idea of a clear, always-visible indicator when private thoughts are hidden is especially helpful.
- We appreciate you explaining how this impacts your daily workflow, and we’ll keep this in mind as the feature evolves.
2 New Issues with Hiding Private Thoughts in Tree View

- 01.15.26: Support could not replicate in TB15.0.101
- 01.16.26: Reported failure of multiple tests in TB15.0.101 > Resolved in recent update
