Mobile Apps vs. Vulcan for Shared Projects?

Harlan Update * 04.02.25

The core purpose of the web client is for easy sharing of brains and casual use.

The mobile and desktop clients provide things that are more important when TheBrain is a core part of your workflow such as: offline access, and integration with local resource, native OS integration for authoring and sharing (think drag and drop, share to, etc), greater responsiveness, etc. But these benefits come at the cost of having to install the software and sync a copy of the data to local storage…

So yes, for sharing a brain for viewing purposes the web client will be a better experience generally.

I should also mention that since mobile and web are now sharing a single code base mostly they will develop in parallel. Occasionally one or the other may get slightly ahead but usually the other platform will catch up soon after.

Harlan Update * 03.08.23:

I would say it is best to guide your reader users to the web application. For anything that is intended to be long lived, I would not say "Vulcan" as that is only a code name that will disappear in the near future. The old web app will be replaced outright by Vulcan.

The web app will be a far superior experience for anyone who is only viewing (as opposed to authoring) as they will not have to install or download anything and need to worry about different clients on different devices, etc.
