FREDERICK WINSLOW TAYLOR

PRECONDITION: LABOUR BECOMES MOVEMENT

Taylor belongs to industrial capitalism, the factory, productivity, and scientific management—not to Constructivism or the Bauhaus. In The Principles of Scientific Management, labour as human activity becomes labour as an analysable process.

Complex work is decomposed into tasks, movements, time, sequences, and efficiency. Movement becomes observable, measurable, comparable, and optimizable.

CONCEPTUAL SHIFTS

The worker's body becomes readable as a series of functions: temporal, functional, measurable, and optimizable. Time, repetition, efficiency, and economy of movement become epistemic categories.

Industrialization → labour → measurement → body as system.

Taylor makes human movement technically legible. This becomes a precondition for later attempts to redesign movement, without making those later projects equivalent to Taylorism.

CRITICAL TENSION

Efficiency ↔ alienation. Taylor optimizes industrial labour; Marx's critique of alienated labour asks what such optimization does to the worker's relation to activity and social life. Marx is used here only as a conceptual jump-link, not as a new branch biography.

Removal audit: without Taylor, the Brain loses the historical precondition through which gesture becomes a measurable unit and the body becomes a productive system.
