Constructors, Regenerative Tracks
Constructors are tools or techniques that help individuals or groups understand
- what the system is leaning toward, not predicting outcomes (dispositionality)
- what patterns are emerging
- what behaviours are likely to amplify or dampen
Constructors are constraints that are able to carry out a given task repeatedly
- Physical constructor examples:
- A machine is a constructor for producing output from inputs
- A computer is a constructor for performing computations
- A heat engine is a constructor for extracting work from heat
- Mental constructor examples:
- Cynefin SenseMaker software is a constructor for generating narrative maps
- A problem-solving technique is a constructor for finding solutions to problems
- A ritual is a constructor for producing a certain mental state in participants
- Learning is a constructor for creating new knowledge in the mind
- See constructor typology for others
Some constructors used in Regenerative Tracks:
- Physical
- Bioregional mapping

Regenerative Tracks focuses on dispositionality: what the system is tending toward
- Identifies the region’s dispositional tendencies
- craft traditions, biodiversity, small farms)
- Helps entrepreneurs understand their own dispositions
- energy patterns, burnout signals, constitutional types
- Maps the ecosystem’s tendencies
- emerging regenerative economy, cultural revival
