Horizontal facilitation on a table works better for this
In the Hexi kits we provide coloured and braided rope to make this easy.
The Counterfactual boundary, everything to the upper right involves too high a consumption of energy and/or too much time to really change or permit any transformation
The Liminal boundary represents things that people in the group, or those they can directly influence, cannot change
The value of this is the presentation of the liminal zone items to more senior decision-makers can result in permission to change
they were not aware that people saw said item as a restriction
agreeing to change means working at the right level of granularity
The Volatile boundary, everything to the lower left can change rapidly and unpredictably so if it has a high impact (red on the map)
Need some form of containment strategy to make sure we don’t get taken by surprise
Negotiation of these boundaries should not be rushed and again people start to reduce the granularity again to reach an agreement as to which side of the boundary they should be placed.
What we now have is a mapping of what we can actually change not an idealistic statement of what we might like to achieve.
