Raised Offering
Almond House teaching:
Terumah, it means it's an offering, a gift, as you just touched upon, it's a contribution, a Terumah,
The word Terumah itself comes from the root word Rum, which you more or less see in the middle of the word Terumah, Rum, and it has many applications, all relating to being something raised, it means to be lifted up, to be on high, exalted, lofty, et cetera, to offer sacrifices, to exalt with praises, to contribute,
- something that's given or set aside or special
- it's a voluntary contribution.
- It can be to a person, but it's usually to God in worship.
- we have wave offerings, which are done in a side-to-side motion, in today's passage we read about a heave offering, which is done in an upward fashion, a lifting up elevation.
- it had to come from the heart. It wasn't an order, it was a voluntary act that came from one's heart
- Exodus 25:: God speaks to Moses in this passage and asks Israel that they should make up a contribution for God, from everyone whose heart moves them. And just to bear in mind that God didn't need help from anyone to build the Tabernacle, he could have just clicked his fingers and there's a Tabernacle.
- And we also, all of us as a temple, are to bring our lives as a contribution, an offering up, not under compulsion, but as a freewill offering from the heart. This can be like praise, thanksgiving, worship, these are all sweeter, almost like incense.
- The Terumah, the heart giving contribution, was for our benefit. It's for us, it's symbolising a raising up of your heart, and he's showing us that to give from one's heart is to love, and he's teaching us that giving is receiving. We can't out-love or out-give God, he's teaching us to love and to give.
- God gives generously, he gave his life, he gave his all through love. He gave us his one and only begotten son, Yeshua. For God's soul of the world, he gave his only son. Whoever bleeds in him shall not perish, but have eternal life. Go on and on about the giving that God shows us.
- If you look back at the very first mention of the word Terumah or the truth, it's back in Genesis 7. Now the flood was on the earth 40 days, the waters increased and lifted up the ark, and it rose high above the earth. Now the ark is synonymous with God's presence with his children. High above the earth lifted up,
- Terumah, like Yeshua, exalted. Understanding the Concept of Giving in Hebraic Tradition Yeshua is lifted up and he is the contribution, he is the Terumah. And when we give of ourselves voluntarily and from the heart, we too are lifted up. Yeshua practises what he preaches, he walks the walk and he talks the talk. He is the most high and he raises us up to be with him. He lays down his life for us.That is giving and that is love. That is the ultimate free will contribution, the ultimate Terumah.
