New Jack Smith documents reveal millions spent on Jan. 6 rally - Raw Story

new documents unsealed in Donald Trump's criminal Jan. 6 case disclosed $3 million spent to get people to the rally that preceded the attack on the Capitol building.

Among the nearly 2,000 heavily redacted pages of evidence for charges against Trump related to an attempt to steal the 2020 election were documents relating to a budget and trip plan for the day.

The evidence is being considered by Judge Tanya Chutkan before she rules if Trump is immune to criminal charges under a Supreme Court decision. Trump's team opposed the papers being unsealed.

USA Today reported an unnamed organization spent $3 million to bring guests and protesters to D.C., and on ad buys to encourage people to make the trip. The actual costs of the event itself were under $400,000.

"Several versions of the “Confidential – Not To Be Disclosed” document are included, with some redactions, and appear to have been prepared for House Jan. 6 Select Committee investigating the attacks, which disclosed some of the information," reported USA Today.

There was also a $200,000 donation to the Republican Attorneys Generals (RAGA) Rule of Law Defense.

Meanwhile, "$300,000 was budgeted for speaker fees and travel for VIP speakers and a busing program to bring in rallygoers within a 180-mile radius."

sarah Palin is a twit: There’s little doubt about that. A rich twit, yes, and a pantyhose populist to the uneducated, uninformed and ignorant masses that make up so much of the rabid right in this county.

To some, she’s Ron Paul with tits. To others, a “shot in the arm” to the tired old concepts of the sham called the Republican Party.

Mostly, however, she is a symbol of how little substance is left in politics and a monument to the stupidity of those who foolishly believe that Palin — and the phony “grassroots” Tea Party that embraces her — is real or worth the time and attention that is wasted on both.

Yes, I know, Palin was elected governor of Alaska but the 49th state has a long and shameful tradition of putting flakes in office.

The sad fact that Palin is a phenom is a sad testament to a shallow, celebrity-driven culture. Polls show more Americans interested in the fate of contestants on American Idol than issues that affect the future of this nation.

In many ways, Palin’s emergence as the face of the Tea Party “movement” is perfect: A phony organization like the Tea Party needs a phony as its superstar. The Tea Party is not the “grassroots” campaign that it claims but a front for right-wing millionaires who want to push their agenda. The Tea Party grew out of Citizens for a Sound Economy, a fake grassroots operation set up in 1984 by David and Charles Koch, right-wing petroleum and energy magnates. It began life in a consulting firm in Washington, not from “grassroots” activists.

Now, as :{Politico :(style="border:0px;margin:0px;padding:0px;box-sizing:border-box"):}:reports, the Tea Party is run not by activists but by a slick, California-based Republican consulting firm who admitted in a memo that the party was a way to get rich.

Just days after the first widespread tea party  demonstrators hit the streets a year ago Thursday, Joe Wierzbicki, a Republican political consultant with the Sacramento firm Russo Marsh + Rogers, made a proposal to his colleagues that he said could “give a boost to our PAC and position us as a growing force/leading force as the 2010 elections come into focus.”

The proposal, obtained by POLITICO, was for a nationwide tea party bus tour, to be called the Tea Party Express, which over the past seven months has become among the most identifiable brands of the tea party movement. Buses emblazoned with the Tea Party Express logo have brought speakers and entertainers to rallies in dozens of small towns and big cities, including one in Boston on Wednesday that will feature former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin.

Aided by campaign-style advance work and event planning, slick ads cut by Russo Marsh, impressive crowds and a savvy media operation, the political action committee run by Wierzbicki, Russo Marsh founder Sal Russo and a handful of other Republican operatives has also emerged as among the prolific fundraising vehicles under the tea party banner. Known as Our Country Deserves Better when it was founded during the 2008 election as a vehicle to oppose Barack Obama’s campaign for president, the PAC saw its fundraising more than quadruple after it took the Tea Party Express public in July, raising nearly $2.7 million in roughly the following six months, compared with less than $600,000 in the preceding six months, according to Federal Election Commission filings.

This kind of activity is “business as usual” for political consultants and fake grassroots operations like the Tea Party. During my foray into the dark side of politics in Washington, I worked for a while for The Eddie Mahe Company, a top GOP consulting firm. The firm helped business and industry groups create a number offake grassroots groups, including Citizens for a Sound Economy — which later spawned the Tea Party.

Some say Tea Party is a “real movement.”

It’s not. The only real movement I’ve seen in modern-day America is the one that empties your bowels.

Kremer started writing two Blogspot blogs from her home in the northern Atlanta suburbs — “Southern Belle Charm,” where she posted cookie recipes and decorating tips, and “Southern Belle Politics,” where she weighed in on the political fights of the day.

In one October 2008 post, recently unearthed by Mother Jones magazine, Kremer pushed the racist birther conspiracy theory that President Obama wasn’t born in the US — the same issue Trump would later use to enter the political arena — writing, “I truly do not think Barack Obama is eligible to be President of this great country. If he is eligible and really doesn't have anything to hide, then why not just produce the vault copy of his birth certificate and put the issue to rest?”

She bemoaned the fact that no member of Congress objected to the certification of Obama’s electoral college vote count.

“All of our Senators and Representatives are more concerned with their own agendas and political careers than they are with doing the job of representing the constituents that sent them to Washington in the first place!” Kremer wrote in January 2009. “The whole thing just makes my stomach churn.”

Kremer found a much broader platform for her political beliefs on Twitter, where she sent dozens of messages a day and chatted with other conservatives during the early days of the Obama presidency. A day after listening to a televised rant by CNBC commentator Rick Santelli calling for a new Tea Party, Kremer dialed into a February 2009 conference call with about two dozen conservative activists who had met on Twitter. On the call, the group planned some of the first Tea Party rallies around the country.

February 20, 2009

Twitter

The Tea Party thing seems 2 be taken off! Thanks Mr. Santelli! We need 2 plan for one in SE...Savannah, Charleston, FL? Anyone? #tcot #sgp

As the movement snowballed, Kremer partnered with two other activists, Jenny Beth Martin and Mark Meckler, to form Tea Party Patriots, a nonprofit to connect conservative activists around the country.

The group’s early days were marked by scandal and division. Within months, Kremer had decamped from that group to join Tea Party Express, a rival organization where she organized rallies and embarked on several bus tours around the country. She ended up in ugly legal battles with her Tea Party Patriots co-founders over the group’s intellectual property and allegations of defamation.

Kremer’s electoral record at the height of the Tea Party was mixed. Her group helped build the conservative energy that flipped the US House in 2010 and US Senate in 2014, stymying Obama’s legislative agenda.

I feel sure tomorrow that a tsunami is going to hit Washington, DC. These people, these

jokers, in Washington continue to ignore us.

:{

}:

At the same time, Kremer personally campaigned for several far-right GOP candidates who went on to lose general elections, such as Delaware Senate nominee Christine O’Donnell. And a large majority of the Tea Party Express’ fundraising went to operational expenses — including nearly $311,000 in payments to Kremer between late 2009 and mid-2014 — instead of directly supporting candidates.

In total, Kremer and her consulting company have been paid at least$380,000 in salary, fees and travel expenses by federal political campaigns and PACs since 2009, according to Federal Election Commission records.

But conservative activists who have worked with Kremer say that she’s motivated by passion about her beliefs. Sal Russo, who served alongside Kremer as an organizer of the Tea Party Express, described her as a hard worker and influential voice.

She didn’t pretend to be a political expert or anything close — just a mom and a very effective spokesperson for us. She is tireless.

New York Times Looks at Tea Party, Grassroots vs. Reid in Nevada

By Elizabeth Crum | 9:27 pm April 5th, 2010

“Tea Party Groups Make Harry Reid Target #1″ says the headline of this piece in the NYT. A few excerpts, the first about Tea Party activist-organizer Eric Odom who recently moved to Nevada to set up his Defeat Reid HQ:

But come the midterm elections, what may be more significant is what is happening here, in a dark condominium where the Home Depot tags are still on the lawn chairs that double as indoor seating for guests.

The blinds drawn against the desert sun, this is the new burrow of Eric Odom, a chief organizer of the first nationwide Tea Parties last year. Mr. Odom moved here a few weeks ago with his fiancée and a blogger sidekick to mobilize the state’s Tea Party groups for the midterms. By training activists in get-out-the-vote tactics like the “voter bombs” that helped Scott Brown become the new Republican senator from Massachusetts, they are hoping to unseat Nevada’s senior senator and the Democratic leader, Harry Reid.

In a matter of weeks, this state has become ground zero for Tea Party members, who understand that as a symbol of the movement’s power, you cannot get much bigger than beating the Senate’s top Democrat.

Yep. A Reid defeat would be a big, fluffy feather-in-cap for both national and Nevada Tea Partiers. So various groups are doing their grassrootsy thing, including the Tea Party Express which kicked off its third cross-country bus tour last weekend in Searchlight. Their parent organization, Our Country Deserves Better PAC, spent $350K in the last few weeks of Massachusetts Miracle Brown’s campaign, and they have vowed to target the Reid race in much the same way.

operate, has proved to be a cash cow for RMR — in 2009 alone, it plunged at least $1,025,559 of money it raised back into RMR.
