Andy Surabian, who was Steve Bannon's political adviser in the Trump administration and a campaign veteran, has decided to leave the White House. He will become a senior adviser to "Great America Alliance," the allied group to "Great America PAC" — a major pro-Trump super-PAC, run by Republican operative Ed Rollins, which raised more than $30 million for Trump's election.

Between the lines: Bannon took a liking to Surabian on the campaign when Surabian ran the (very understaffed) Trump war room. By installing his top political adviser in such a senior role in the Rollins' outside group, Bannon is tagging the outfit as his financial vehicle to take on Republican leadership in the House and Senate.

Why this matters: Bannon is close to some of the biggest anti-establishment donors in conservative politics, including New York billionaire Bob Mercer, Home Depot co-founder Bernie Marcus and tech billionaire Peter Thiel. Bannon and Surabian have been privately discussing supporting anti-establishment primary challengers in the 2018 Senate races in Nevada and Arizona.

What's next: Expect the Rollins group to launch a "full-on assault against GOP leaders who they deem insufficiently supportive of the president's agenda," a source familiar with the group's planning said. Surabian, who was political director for "Tea Party Express PAC" before joining the Trump campaign and becoming special assistant to the president, is also expected to be involved in every other aspect of Bannon's new projects.

In Michigan, Democrats are finding themselves increasingly at odds with each other during a contentious and expensive Senate primary. On the Republican side, former Rep. Mike Rogers (R., Mich.) has had the field cleared for months thanks to an early endorsement from President Donald Trump.

Now, Rogers is getting a seven-figure boost from Great Lakes Conservatives Fund (GLCF), which argues in a new ad, obtained exclusively by the Washington Reporter, that Rogers is just the superhero that Michigan needs.

GLCF’s new ad, “Superpowers,” builds off of the Buff Mike Rogers image that his campaign has been pitching, ever since an AI meme of Rogers at a parade went supersonically viral.

“Can Mike Rogers leap tall buildings?” the Marvel-esque ad asks. “Maybe with a running start. Can he bring jobs back to Michigan and make housing more affordable? Yes. Michigan born and raised. Factory worker. Army veteran. Law enforcement officer. Mike Rogers’s superpower is he understands Michigan workers he’ll fight to bring jobs home, expand skilled trades training, and build more housing. Michigan doesn’t need a superhero. We need a fighter. Like Mike Rogers.”

Andy Surabian, GLCF’s president, explained that “Michigan doesn’t need another radical politician that is more concerned with gaining national attention for how far left they can go, than putting Michigan families and workers first.”

Rather, Surabian argued, “Michigan needs a common-sense leader like Mike Rogers who is committed to getting things done and fighting for the working-class. Mike Rogers is a military veteran and Michigan auto-factory worker. He understands what Michigan families are dealing with after decades of Democrats gutting manufacturing jobs and killing the economy with their leftwing policy agenda.”

Surabian called the ad, which will run all summer long, in the words of Michigander Kid Rock, the “first step” to electing Rogers in November.

“National Democrats are pouring millions of dollars into this state because they see the same data that we see and know that Mike Rogers can win this race in November,” Surabian said. “Our path to victory is simple: make sure Michigan voters know what Mike Rogers stands for.”
