NEWSMAX's 'Liberty Loving Latino' offers faith and freedom as he takes on the biased press, Hollywood, and Washington politicians.
https://www.chrissalcedo.com/
hris Salcedo is a veteran television and radio broadcaster, author and political analyst. You can watch your "Liberty Loving Latino," on Newsmax TV 5 PM to 6 PM eastern, Monday through Friday. The Chris Salcedo radio show can also be heard across the country on the AM 700 KSEV APP.
A graduate of San Diego State University, Chris's news experience extends past being one of the few weather men in the nation to do a hard-hitting story on Social Security}:. He was a TV news anchor and reporter in the 5th largest TV market in the nation at CBS11/TXA 21 in DALLAS/FORT WORTH. And also anchored nationwide newscast on America's Radio news Network.
Chris seeks to counter the media-driven, false narrative that all Latinos think alike and have the same toxic left-wing values. Salcedo promotes the fact that there is diversity of thought in the Latino community that parallels American society. He furthers that mission as the executive Director of the Conservative Hispanic Society.
The driving philosophy behind Chris’ success:
A society's worth isn't measured by how muchpower is seized by its governmentbut rather, how much power is reserved for its people.

e*ditor’s note: With the far right ascendant in Texas politics, once-marginal ideas and people have found a place in the political mainstream. Our recurring Fringe Factor series is an introduction to the often-unknown, but influential activists, thinkers and operatives who play a growing role in shaping the state.
Chris Salcedo, a conservative talk radio host in Dallas, is a man of many neologisms. For five hours a day, Monday through Friday, the 47-year-old fills airwaves in Dallas and Houston with invective against “resident Obama,” the “basket of bias press” and “crony crapitalists.” Salcedo, who calls himself a “liberty-loving Latino,” also revels in proving that Hispanics can champion border walls, immigration bans and tax cuts for the wealthy.
Born and raised in San Diego, California, Salcedo moved in 2006 to Dallas, where he worked as a TV reporter and anchor for four years before moving into talk radio. Today, Salcedo fills the early-morning drive-time slot on KSEV 700 — the Houston-area station owned by Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick — and a late-morning slot for the Metroplex’s WBAP 820. He held down a regular gig on Glenn Beck’sThe Blaze until its recent round of layoffs.

Though Salcedo is in many ways a standard-issue conservative talker, he’s picked a side in the Texas GOP’s civil war, aligning himself with his boss, Dan Patrick; the House Freedom Caucus; and Empower Texans, the far-right enforcer group funded by Midland oilman Tim Dunn.
On air, Salcedo spent last year’s legislative session railing against Joe Straus, the moderate Republican speaker of the House who stymied a number of extreme bills. Salcedo has called Straus “a Democrat” and a “pile of manure,” and hailed his recent retirement announcement as “manna from heaven.”
Salcedo is no voice in the wilderness. His guest list has included Vice President Mike Pence, U.S. Senator Ted Cruz, Governor Greg Abbott, numerous Texas congressmen and state lawmakers and, of course, Patrick, who made his own name during more than two decades in Houston talk radio. Neither of Salcedo’s stations has a massive following — each ranks third among “news/talk” in its respective area — but they reach a politically potent audience.
“Talk radio helps spread the ‘movement conservative’ gospel among those people most likely to participate in the Republican primary,” said Mark P. Jones, a Rice University political scientist. Mostly Anglos over 40, Jones said, the talk radio audience can propel outsider candidates through primaries and into noncompetitive general elections.
Salcedo, who calls himself a “liberty-loving Latino,” also revels in proving that Hispanics can champion border walls, immigration bans and tax cuts for the wealthy.
Salcedo brings something new to the pasty world of talk radio. Beck’s radio network promoted his show as “politics with a side of Latin flair,” and its website trumpeted: “The national media can never seem to find a conservative Latino to speak on the big issues. It didn’t take us long.” But far from feeling tokenized, Salcedo leans into his identity and uses it to absolve fellow conservatives.
In a May interview with Michael Quinn Sullivan, the Empower Texans head recently in hot water for calling a black lawmaker “thuggish,” Salcedo said, “I have broken bread with [Sullivan] … so I can attest as your liberty-loving Latino, folks, that accusations of racism toward Empower Texans are not founded in reality.”
For Salcedo, it’s actually liberals who take a jaundiced view of Hispanics. “I understand the Democrats and Joe Strauses of the world think if you have a Latino surname, chances are you’re illegal. That’s their prejudice,” Salcedo told the Observer. “The idea that the Latino community supports allowing illegal alien felons out on the streets and supports illegal immigration, which is wrong and immoral, it’s a fallacy.”

Illustration/Drue Wagner
Salcedo argues the GOP can win voters of color without softening its immigration stance, citing polls that indicate Abbott and Patrick won the Hispanic male vote in 2014. In an interview with Salcedo that November, Patrick concluded, “We don’t need moderate or weak Republicans moving to the middle to appease the left,” saying his anti-abortion and border security message had worked. “Amen to that,” Salcedo replied.
Now the 2018 primaries look primed to push the Texas GOP even further to the right, as conservative challengers line up to take on centrists clinging to life in the statehouse. An analysis by Jones found that the most moderate quartile of Republicans is facing nearly the same number of challengers as the other 75 percent combined. The top target, said Jones, is likely pro-choice Houstonian Sarah Davis, who’s drawn the opposition of her own governor.
Asked whether he’d be riling up listeners to oust Davis and her ilk this year, Salcedo interrupted before the question was even out. “Absolutely,” he said.
Gus Bova is the interim editor-in-chief of the Texas Observer. In 2016, he joined the Observer as an intern, later becoming a staff writer and an assistant editor. He's covered immigration, homelessness, labor, politics, and other major Texas stories. Before coming to the Observer, he worked at a shelter for recently arrived immigrants and asylum-seekers. He studied Latin American Studies at the University of Kansas.

as the climate crisis becomes more evident and destructive, even exceeding climate scientists’ earlier predictions, Fox News and other influential right-wing outlets and figures are downplaying the severity of climate-fueled events and pushing dangerous climate denial.
This summer has been marked by a series of record-breaking extreme weather events, illustrative of the rapidly intensifying effects of global warming. Unprecedented heat waves, wildfires, and floods have wreaked havoc across North America. Meanwhile, global sea surface temperatures have reached alarming levels, and the world just experienced its hottest day on record — four days in a row. These events align with scientists' warnings, but the acceleration of warming and the intensity of this summer’s extreme heat suggest that the climate crisis is unfolding faster than expected.
Last month, when smoke from hundreds of wildfires raging across Canada polluted the air over major population centers in the U.S., Fox News dismissed the link between the fires and climate change; meanwhile conspiracy theories seeking alternative explanations for Canada’s record-breaking wildfire season flourished online. In response to news that Earth had reached its hottest temperatures ever recorded, bad actors attempted to distract from the unsettling milestone by focusing on CNN’s use of the phrase “hottest day ever.” As deadly heat continues to scorch parts of the U.S., Asia, and Europe with no end in sight, and with a 1,000-year flood event having left parts of Vermont and New York state underwater, right-wing media cling to talking points that deny climate science.
By flooding the zone with climate denial right when the climate crisis is most evident, right-wing media run cover for Republican decision-makers who are actively obstructing climate action, ward off accountability for the fossil fuel industry, and pollute information systems for those attempting to understand the link between extreme weather and our dependence on fossil fuels. This tactic, like the extreme heat, has no end in sight.
Right-wing media responded to deadly climate change-fueled heat and flooding with denial and delay
- Fox Business host Stuart Varney indulged climate change denier Marc Morano and said climate change is “a good debate.” When discussing extreme heat in Phoenix, Arizona, Morano said, “This is not outside the normal bounds of hot summer weather,” and claimed that CNN, The New York Times, and others are “weaponizing hot summer heat waves to turn it into some kind of climate action.” Varney asked Morano whether “that is not the result of CO2 emissions'' and said, “It's a good debate. This is a very good debate.” Fox Business, *Varney & Co*., [7/19/23]
- Far-right radio host Steven Crowder hosted climate contrarian Bjorn Lomborg, who downplayed the climate crisis by arguing that more people die from cold than heat: “We are not talking about a world where most people die from heat. No, most people die from cold. Cold is fantastically more dangerous for a lot of different reasons.”:{ Rumble, }:*Louder with Crowder*:{, }:[7/19/23:{]}:
- The Daily Wire’s Matt Walsh suggests that the extreme heat is normal for summer: “:{Well it’s summertime and that means it's hot outside … This is when the media, as it does every year, claims that the hot weather is a sign of our impending planetary doom.” The Daily Wire, :(style="background-color:#ffff66;"):}:*The Matt Walsh Show*, [7/18/23]
- Far-right pundit James Lindsay: “Climate struggle sessions ramping up. They're going to try and fail to make that transition again. The propaganda isn't going to work this time either, though.” Twitter, [7/18/23]
- Fox News host Laura Ingraham, in response to an Axios article about extreme weather: “I'm not taking@Axios seriously until they start crusading against coal burning in China — anyone who claims to worry about carbon emissions should start there or button it. Even the ‘best states for climate change’ get hit with extreme weather” Twitter, [7/18/23]
- COVID-19 conspiracy theorist Dr. Naomi Wolf: “Oh! Conclusions: this will happen more and more often because climate change so: stay indoors, do remote work, ‘mask’. Back where we were again.” Twitter, [7/18/23]
- Right-wing Irish political activist and conspiracy theorist Ben Gilroy: “Today media continue to propagandise weather showing high temperatures in Death Valley USA — yet the park rangers wear jackets and gloves? The elites UN climate scam is really about securing a world government plutocracy, depopulation, and severely cutting your quality of life.” Twitter, [7/18/23]
- Fox host Jesse Watters downplayed the extreme heat as simply “summer”: “It's been a hot July. Some call it ‘global warming,’ some call it ‘summer.’ But what's the best way to beat the heat? Ice cream.” Fox News, *Jesse Watters Primetime*, [7/17/23]
- Lindsay mocked conditions in the southern U.S. that were so humid they had the potential to interfere with humans’ ability to sweat, pushing the limits of survivability. Twitter, [7/17/23]
- Longtime fossil fuel shill Steve Milloy: “@AP: 'Around the world, millions feel the heat of an unrelenting summer.' Two points: 1. It is summer. It gets hot. 2. There 8 billion in the world. If only 'millions' are experiencing extreme heat, that doesn't sound much like 'climate change.'” Twitter, [7/17/23]
- Misogynist influencer and alleged sex trafficker Tristan Tate: “They’re naming heatwaves like they used to name new ‘Covid variants’. Can somebody in the government give me the job of whoever makes the names up? I’ll do it for free. Watch out! The ‘lovely warm summer’ heatwave has just hit Europe.” Twitter, [7/15/23]
- COVID-19 conspiracy theorist and anti-vaccine influencer Dr. Eli David: “When the weather is a bit warmer than usual: Experts™: IT'S PROOF OF GLOBAL WARMING!!!!! When the weather is colder than usual: Experts™: WEATHER AND CLIMATE ARE TWO DIFFERENT THINGS YOU MORONS!!!!!” Twitter, [7/17/23]
- Newsmax host Chris Salcedo mocked concern over the record heat: “Newsflash folks, it gets hot in the summer.” He continued, “After a few particularly hot days on the Fourth of July weekend, the left — they went into full fearmongering mode.” Salcedo then interviewed Milloy, who warned that climate activists would call for climate lockdowns.:{ Newsmax, }:*The Chris Salcedo Show*:{, }:[7/17/23:{]}:
- On The Five, Jesse Watters attacked “the left” for connecting climate change to heat waves across the globe and mocked climate activists:“The left rushing to blame global warming for that dangerous heat wave gripping the nation and the world right now. But I think the heat's getting to their heads. Climate change-obsessed liberals are actually acting crazier than usual, with eco-extremists in Germany literally gluing their hands to airport runways as a way to sound thealarm on how the planet's cooked.” Fox News, *The Five*, [7/17/23]
- Fox host Greg Gutfeld also attempted to downplay the record-breaking heat with bizarre logic: “The problem with using weather — like saying, ‘This place broke records’ — how many states, how many countries didn't break records? Nobody ever provides you the context. They’re going, ‘Three countries had record breaking heat waves.’ It’s like, well, ‘How many countries are there?’” Fox News, *The Five*, [7/17/23]
- On America’s Newsroom, Lomborg suggested that more air conditioning is the way to address extreme heat: “The way to fix this, of course, is to make sure that people get lots of air conditioningand that they can actually afford the energy that they will run their air conditioning on. That’s one. The second one is to remember that, yes, there are many people dying from heat, but many, many more people dying from cold.:{” Fox News, }:*America’s Newsroom*:{, }:[7/17/23:{]}:
- Climate change denier and former University of Alabama professor Matthew Wielicki: “We used to call this summer. Now we call this a climate crisis.” Twitter, [7/15/23]
- Milloy: “India's monsoon season is not affected by emissions. Indians have died in monsoon flooding since there have been Indians and monsoons. It is really dishonest and disgusting to surf tragic deaths for climate.” Twitter, [7/14/23]
- Right-wing British pundit Brendan O’Neill, who has been praised by anti-renewable energy activist Michael Shellenberger, wrote that “global warming could be good for humankind.”:{ Citing Lomborg, O’Neill wrote that “the truth is that global warming could be good for humankind” because more people die from the cold than heat. “It’s pissing down in Britain,” he continued, “Where’s our global warming? Even the name of the heatwave is designed to conjure up visions of hellfire and torment.” Spiked, }:[7/14/23:{]}:
- On Fox News at Night, Carl Demaio, a political operative and conservative radio host, called a California campaign to warn residents about climate-driven extreme heat “wasteful spending” and “fear porn.” Fox News, *Fox News at Night*, [7/12/23]
- Newsmax host Eric Bolling, in response to calls for climate action after flooding in the Northeast, denied that human activity is responsible for warming: “It's raining, so we all must change our behavior. Unprecedented weather events — look flooding’s terrible, loss of property is a disaster, and our hearts go out to those affected. But just imagine, for one moment, the ridiculousness and the pompousness to think that: one, our behavior has any real impact on weather and the Earth, and two, even if that were true — which it’s not — that we could do anything about it without making things worse.” Newsmax, *Eric Bolling The Balance*, [7/11/23]
- Fox host Laura Ingraham also mocked the extreme heat and calls to action, suggesting that climate change is a made-up crisis: “It's hot, hot, hot all right. After all, we're in the middle of a season called ‘summer.’” Ingraham later played a clip from a previous show, arguing that “COVID lockdowns set the predicate for more to come.” She said, “Their so-called public health expertswere wrong on everything from lockdowns to masks to social distancing. And yet now we see the usual suspects lining up to exploit another hyped crisis: of course, I’m talking about climate change.” Fox News, *The Ingraham Angle*, [7/11/23]
- Right-wing journalist and author Alex Berenson: As climate change hysteria reaches a new level of screeching (1-in-1000 this, world's hottest that), remember that weather-related deaths have PLUNGED since 1970. The wealthier the world becomes, the easier managing climate change will be. And wealth requires energy. Period. Twitter, [7/10/23]
- On Jesse Watters Primetime, guest host Pete Hegseth mocked reports of record-breaking heat and blamed media for “hyping climate insanity”: If there is one thing the mindless left loves to magically discover every year, it’s that summer is hot. Hegseth continued, “It was hotter in New York in April. And it’s not even the hottest June we’ve ever had. The data shows that the 80s and 90s … were a lot hotter.” Fox News, :{Jesse Watters Primetime}:, [7/7/23]

an 6 22
newsmax host Chris Salcedo recently laid out a :{bizarre theory suggesting that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) was part of a plot to have U.S. Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh }:killed so President Joe Biden could nominate a replacement.
On Tuesday, June 14, Salcedo spoke with Rep. Rodney Davis (R-Ill.) where he noted that the top-ranking Democratic lawmaker had been responsible for holding up the passing of legislation to enhance security measures for justices and members of their families.
“A lot of folks are starting to ask some questions out there, congressman,” Salcedo began. “They’re openly wondering why Nancy Pelosi sat on a bill that was passed by the Senate to protect Supreme Court justices. Now she’s moving after an assassination attempt on Justice Kavanaugh. Are Americans right to question if Pelosi was actually hoping for, or encouraging violence that could lead to Joe Biden appointing a new Supreme Court justice?”
Salcedo's remarks come just days after an armed man was apprehended not far from Kavanaugh's Maryland home. At the time, the man reportedly admitted that he wanted to kill the justice.
[twt]
on Tuesday, House lawmakers also voted in favor of the bill. However, Davis appeared to pivot from the question.
“It’s certainly questions [sic] that Nancy Pelosi and others need to answer as to why she thought somehow Justice Kavanaugh – after having an assassin in his backyard – is somehow safe over the weekend. We could’ve gotten to this bill last week, but she chose to hold it up and she needs to answer as to why.”
Despite Salcedo's baseless theory, the bill for enhanced security passed with a staggering vote of 396-27. Biden is expected to sign the bill into law sometime next week. The opposing votes all came from Democratic lawmakers.

Chris Salcedo is an incredible storyteller, but the plot of Liberty Rises isn’t just fiction, it’s a frightening look at where progressive ideology could take us. Science-fiction is a great way to explore the issues we face while staying away from the political theatre in D.C. and Chris has hit the mark perfectly with this novel. -Glenn Beck, #1 bestselling author and founder of TheBlaze
I cannot stress enough how much I enjoyed this book! I read roughly 50 to 60 books a year, mostly non-fiction but sometimes I need a break and mix in some fiction. This was by far one of the best fiction books I've read in my life! Sort of an Ayn Rand, Atlas Shrugged theme mixed with modern day scenarios mixed with science fiction. That combination makes for a truly fun and entertaining read. - Robert Stifler

This book should be required reading for every out of touch liberal. It is fiction and we should all hope that the opening chapters remain so. This book would make a really good movie! - Dorothy Cronin
Mr. Salcedo did a fine job keeping me entertained in a fun story that, for a time, allowed me to escape the oppression that progressive government is working so diligently to implement. I would encourage the author to consider a sequel. - Lone Star Girl

cHRIS SALCEDO (HOST): Obama and Fox News Channel are finding more in common. That's the sad news that I have to report in tonight's preamble. In some of the email I'm getting, folks invariably ask me what the hell is going on over at Fox. Truth is, I don't know. I suspect it has something to do with the dedicated Democrats who run that channel these days. In all honesty, I thought we'd never be here. I thought that we and Fox would be fighting side by side, you know, against those folks trying to wash this wave of anti-American socialism that has swallowed the Democrat socialist party and the rest of the biased press. Well, it's not worked out that way. It's a bit discouraging, I'm not going to lie to you.
...
President Barack Hussein Obama has been pimping a book around the country, you might have heard. In one interview, he lamented how white conservatives supported him at one time.
...
Typical left-wing extremist. As often as Barack Obama looks in the mirror you'd think the former narcissist-in-chief could get a clearer picture or have at least a greater idea, some self-awareness. The reason so many people stopped supporting you, Mr. Obama, wasn't because of anybody else but you. The reason Obama lost support, folks, was because he opened his big mouth and implemented policies that told us who he really was. The media refused to vet Obama before his election. So many people were shocked to discover that he's an anti-American leftist who despises the United States and worked to prop up our enemies in Iran, Cuba, and China.
But who does Obama think is responsible for his loss of popularity? Rush Limbaugh, of course. Just like Fox News Channel's Geraldo Rivera laughingly bashed Rush Limbaugh for making a fair and accurate analysis. With all due respect, Geraldo, Rush does more good for this country in one of his opening monologues than any of your socialist pals have done in their entire careers. Although, I really did enjoy the contents of Al Capone's vault. It turns out your critique of Rush was just about as substantive.
