You have been inundated with reports from media, governments, think tanks and ''experts'' saying that our climate is changing for the worse and it is our fault. Increases in droughts, heat waves, tornadoes and poison ivy - to name a few - are all blamed on our ''sins of emissions'' from burning fossil fuels and increasing carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. Yet, you don't quite buy into this human-caused climate apocalypse. You aren't sure about the details because you don't have all the facts and likely aren't a scientist. Inconvenient Facts was specifically created for you. Writing in plain English and providing easily understood charts and figures, Gregory Wrightstone presents the science to assess the basis of the threatened Thermageddon.
The book's 60 ''inconvenient facts'' come from government sources, peer-reviewed literature or scholarly works, set forth in a way that is lucid and entertaining. The information likely will challenge your current understanding of many apocalyptic predictions about our ever dynamic climate.
You will learn that the planet is improving, not in spite of increasing CO2 and rising temperature, but because of it. The very framework of the climate-catastrophe argument will be confronted with scientific fact. Arm yourself with the truth.

Former Fox host Tucker Carlson is platforming disgraced climate denier Willie Soon, an aerospace engineer known for accepting over $1 million from fossil fuel companies for writing publications he referred to as “deliverables.”
Carlson invited Soon, a former researcher at the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics, on his exclusive program on X (formerly Twitter) for an interview on January 9. The two amplified long-debunked hypotheses about what is causing climate change, and clips from the interview have already been viewed over 1 million times on TikTok, likely by a young audience that might not be familiar with Soon’s controversies, which came to light back in 2015.
The spread of these videos highlights TikTok’s ongoing climate misinformation problem, even as it has begun implementing a new policy banning content that “undermines well-established scientific consensus, such as denying the existence of climate change or the factors that contribute to it.”
Though experts dismissed Soon’s false claims, clips of his interview with Carlson have gained traction on TikTok, a social media platform popular with young users
- Clips of Carlson’s interview with Soon have been viewed over 1 million times on TikTok. Media Matters identified six videos that have collectively accrued more than 1.1 million views. According to a January 2023 report from Morning Consult, over 60% of Gen Z adults use TikTok at least once daily. TikTok, [1/10/24, 1/10/24, 1/10/24;1/10/24; 1/10/24, 1/10/24;Morning Consult, 1/2023]
- Climate scientists continue to highlight and debunk Soon’s disinformation.“Soon's science is based on faulty assumptions & his conclusions are invalid & that's likely why FF [fossil fuel] companies pay him," wrote Gavin Schmidt, head of NASA's Goddard Institute for Space Studies. The interview is part of a larger trend of major right-wing media outlets relying more on long-debunked climate deniers

Willie Soon has been exposed for unethically promoting flawed science
- In 2015, a joint investigation by Greenpeace and the Climate Investigations Center found that Soon had accepted over $1.2 million in funding from fossil fuel companies for his research. Soon’s work was funded “almost entirely” by the fossil fuels industry, including Exxon Mobil, Southern Company, the American Petroleum Institute, and the Charles G. Koch Foundation. The Guardian, [2/21/15]
- Soon described his papers as “deliverables” to his corporate funders. Emails revealed that one of the country’s largest utility holding companies, Southern Company, paid Soon to publish research examining the sun’s role in driving climate change. At the time, Southern relied heavily on coal. Scientists have long recognized that solar activity cannot be responsible for the rapid warming that the planet has experienced in recent decades. The New York Times, [2/21/15; Inside Climate News, 2/21/15; NASA, accessed 1/11/24]
- The investigation also found that Soon failed to disclose his relationship with Southern Company in some of his research papers, violating ethical guidelines upheld by scientific journals. Despite accepting more than $400,000 from the company, Soon insisted he had no conflicts of interest, raising the alarm for academics and scientists. His papers, which have been published in top scientific journals, push a “range of climate-denial perspectives.” Inside Climate News, [2/21/15]
Soon has for years been a go-to source for media and lawmakers keen on protecting fossil fuel interests
- Soon and his work have been used by the GOP in their efforts to block climate action.Climate denier and former Oklahoma Sen. James Inhofe has cited Soon in press releases and on the Senate floor. In 2013, Soon testified in support of an effort to repeal Kansas’ renewable energy standard in front of state legislators, claiming that climate change isn’t a problem. - Soon has worked with right-wing think tanks that influence climate policy. Soon has spoken at conferences hosted by the Heritage Foundation, the Texas Public Policy Institute, and the Heartland Institute. :{:{In 2023, as climate-driven disasters plagued countries around the world and the COP28 climate change conference saw the adoption of a historic (though reportedly “loophole”-ridden) agreement referencing a transition away from fossil fuels for the first time, right-wing media remained committed to hindering progress}:
. Three concerning trends emerged in their strategies, which included facilitating comebacks for long-discredited climate deniers, cheering on violence against climate activists, and attributing deadly climate-driven events to conspiracies or religious calamity.}:
Right-wing media facilitated comebacks for long-discredited climate deniers.
Discredited climate deniers like Judith Curry, Patrick Moore, Anthony Watts, and Gregory Wrightstone, who have been vocal for decades, received renewed attention in 2023 from right-wing media figures, who seemed to be turning to views that stray further and further from established science.
Judith Curry, former chair of the School of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences at Georgia Tech, consulted for oil and gas companies during her time in academia. She resigned from Georgia Tech in 2017 citing climate “craziness” and has been called out by other climate scientists for taking public positions reliant on debunked climate change denialarguments.
Patrick Moore is a former nuclear energy consultant and climate change denier who falsely claims he is a co-founder of Greenpeace. Anthony Watts runs a junk science climate denier blog and is a senior fellow at the fossil fuel-funded Heartland Institute. Gregory Wrightstone is a geologist who worked for the natural gas industry for 20 years, started a consulting firm for energy companies, and is now the executive director of a climate change denial non-profit.
Gregory Wrightstone – Executive Director
MS in Geology
Gregory Wrightstone is a geologist (BS Waynesburg College and MS West Virginia Univ.), bestselling author (Inconvenient Facts), and an Expert Reviewer for the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (AR6).
Mr. Wrightstone has authored or co-authored more than 200 papers, publications and commentaries concerning climate change and energy. He is a popular guest for media outlets on television, radio and podcasts, having done nearly 300 interviews in 2022 alone.
He had a 35-year career in the energy industry, focused primarily on the Appalachian Basin of the eastern United States, culminating in his role as a founding partner and VP of Exploration for Mountaineer Keystone.
- Four-time President of the Pittsburgh Association of Petroleum Geologists
- President of the Eastern Section AAPG
- Founder and President of the Pennsylvania Coalition for Responsible Government, a state-wide free market advocacy group.
- Co-founder of Pennsylvanians Against Common Core

pix gregory Wrightstone, a geologist, sits before the House Environmental Resources and Energy Committee. Wrightstone has spent most of his career working for and contracting with gas companies.
An early-morning state House committee meeting Wednesday drew an unusual number of protesters to the state Capitol — many of them unusually dressed.
The reason for their discontent was the meeting’s featured testifier, a geologist who rejects mainstream climate science, and who has spent most of his career working and consulting for natural gas companies.
The demonstrators were from the Better Path Coalition and other groups, and came dressed as mythical creatures like unicorns and leprechauns in an effort, they said, to show that while the creatures are imaginary, climate change is real.
The geologist, Gregory Wrightstone, was tapped to testify by Daryl Metcalfe, one of the most conservative members of the House and chair of the Environmental Resources and Energy Committee, who said he invited Wrightstone to debunk “myths.”
Wrightstone doesn’t deny the earth is warming, or that CO2 has increased rapidly since industrialization. But he told assembled lawmakers that based on his study of geologic records, he believes warming started significantly before industrialization, in the 17th century.
He said the warming the warming since then is natural, and he argued that it’s actually a positive thing.
He referenced the Little Ice Age — a period of unusual cold that scientists believe peaked sometime in the mid-1600s
“This cold period was marked by crop failure, famine, and mass-depopulation because of naturally-occurring global cooling,” he said. “Earth and humanity have benefited greatly from what’s been called the long, slow thaw.”
Most scientists don’t dispute that there was some natural warming after the cold snap of the 17th century.
But Wrightstone’s broader conclusion, that current warming trends are natural and untethered to CO2 emissions, is directly contrary to the scientific consensus.
Richard Alley, a geosciences professor at Penn State who specializes in ice core testing, said he doesn’t believe there is any natural explanation for the rapid warming that has been measured since the 20th century.
“We see the warming,” he said. “And then we ask, well is it the sun? No, the sun, if anything is going the other way. Is it the oceans? Well, heat’s going into the oceans, it’s not coming out. Well, is it anything else we can find? No, it isn’t. The CO2 explains what’s happening and nothing else does.”
Michael Mann, an atmospheric science and geoscience professor, also of Penn State, agreed.
“While climate does change naturally, we are warming the planet at an unprecedented rate, putting carbon into the atmosphere a million times faster than the natural geological increases in carbon dioxide that were responsible for e.g. the warmth of the early Cretaceous period,” he wrote in an email.
Citing information gathered by the National Research Council, NASA estimates the earth has warmed by approximately 0.7 percent over the last century, which it says represents a rate of warming roughly 10 times faster than the average rate of ice-age recovery.
Climate change is already harming both human and natural systems.
Wrightstone, who has a master’s degree in geology, told the committee that while he has published papers on paleo-climatology, he hasn’t written any on contemporary climate science.
He has self-published a book on his theories.
Wrightstone spent most of his career in the natural gas industry.
After his testimony, he confirmed he worked as a geologist for the Pittsburgh-based gas company Texas Keystone for 20-odd years, but said the experience doesn’t influence his current work.
“If I was still receiving payment or being influenced by them, yes,” he said, his gas industry work might be a factor. “But that has no influence on me. That was in a past life.”
However, Wrightstone remains involved, in various capacities, with the industry.
After working for Texas Keystone, Wrightstone started his own business, Wrightstone Energy Consulting. He has frequently written and been quoted as a natural gas consultant in articles and videos for Hart Energy, a Houston-based energy industry publisher, and in ones written for or aggregated by similar industry publishers.
Asked when he had stopped consulting for gas companies, Wrightstone said he still does “a little bit when I can, but I’ve been so busy I turn down almost all my work.”
“I’ve got to make some money,” he added.
He is also on the advisory board at conservative think tank The Heartland Institute—a position for which he said he accepts no money. The organization has been known to accept considerable funding from the oil and gas industry, and has worked to sow doubt in climate science.

- In 2023, these climate deniers appeared on cable news for the first time in years. Wrightstone appeared on One America News, seemingly making his first cable news appearance since 2019. Moore and Curry both appeared on Fox News for the first time since 2019, and Watts appeared on Fox News for the first time, according to Media Matters’ records. Moore and Curry were guests on Jesse Watters Primetime and Watts was a guest on The Ingraham Angle. As predicted, Jesse Watters continued Tucker Carlson’s legacy of climate denial on Fox News. - On X (formerly Twitter), bad actors found support and saw their audiences grow as climate scientists fled the platform. In the past year, Curry’s account grew by approximately 31,600 followers while Moore’s account grew by more than 32,500. Media Matters previously reported that climate deniers and contrarians have benefited from Elon Musk’s takeover of the platform. “Yes the number of my followers is increasing much more rapidly than over the past year or so,” Curry said in a November 2022 tweet. Moore also expressed contentment with his account growth in April 2022. Social Blade, accessed 12/15/23; Twitter/X, [11/11/22, 4/6/22; Media Matters, 12/8/22; The Guardian, 8/15/23]
Right-wing media attempted to justify violence against climate activists engaging in non-violent direct action.
In 2023, activist groups doubled down on demands for a global transition away from fossil fuels. Their tactics included throwing paint or food on famous works of art and property, infiltrating cultural events, and obstructing busy roads, provoking outrage from right-wing media.
- Right-wing media escalated a yearslong campaign to frame protesters as violent, aggressive, and mentally ill to justify state efforts to criminalize civil disobedience.Right-wing influencers described climate activists as “enemies of humanity” and compared nonviolent direct actions, such as blocking roads, to “firing a gun into the air at random targets” and committing violent crimes. This framing has also been reflected in charges filed in Georgia, where authorities repurposed a state anti-terrorism law to target environmental activists as part of a crackdown on what they claim to be violent extremism. Media Matters, [2/1/23, 11/10/23; Drilled, 12/6/23; Grist; 1/27/23]
- Right-wing pundits have called for disproportionately severe punishments for those who have engaged in controversial and disruptive — but peaceful — acts of protest. The Daily Wire’s Matt Walsh and former Daily Caller writer Greg Price have suggested that activists who have thrown food and paint at famous works of art should be dismembered, “beaten with a bullwhip,” or forced into “labor camps where they spend all day drilling for oil.” Media Matters [8/7/23; Media Matters, 2/1/23]
- When motorists responded to protests with violence, right-wing media repeatedly excused and even condoned the behavior. In November, Matt Walsh and other right-wing influencers blamed two government protesters in Panama for their own deaths after a U.S. citizen allegedly killed them for blocking the road. In Europe and in the U.S., violent motorists were praised and celebrated for beating up protesters who obstruct traffic. Media Matters, [11/10/23, 8/7/23; Media Matters, 2/1/23]
Conspiracy theorists and right-wing Christian media figures spread misinformation about extreme weather events, often suggesting they were planned or indicative of a religious event.
Conspiracy theorists spread misinformation about the causes of extreme weather events, often suggesting they are orchestrated occurrences. In parallel, conservative Christian media figures reject the scientific consensus on human-driven climate change, attributing such events to divine will and interpreting them as “demonic attacks,” manifestations of biblical prophecy, or signs of the End Times.
- Conspiracy theorists and right-wing media fabricated evidence that the fires that devastated the historic town of Lahaina, Hawaii, in August were planned. Claims that the fires were started by a direct energy weapon as a ploy to raise property prices or accelerate the construction of a “smart city” circulated online, and accounts used doctored images to back up these claims. YouTube and Meta allowed these posts to be monetized. Media Matters, [8/23/23]
- TikTok was a hotbed for misinformation about climate-driven events. TikTok videos falsely claiming that catastrophic wildfires plaguing Canada over the summer were started deliberately via helicopter, drone, or “Directed Energy Weapons” proliferated across social media, garnering millions of views. The fires received little coverage in U.S. media until smoke reached the East Coast, blanketing major cities in smoke and resulting in unhealthy air quality. Media Matters, [6/14/23]
- Right-wing Christian media figures and TikTok influencers dismissed climate change and instead cited biblical prophecy, the End Times, or “demonic attack” as explanations for extreme weather events. As concern about climate change declined among young evangelicals, Christian programs and news outlets such as FlashPoint and Charisma News attributed this summer’s heatwaves and wildfires to “God’s anger” and a “decline of morality.” TikTok accounts with hundreds of thousands of followers claimed the events were signs of the return of Jesus Christ. Even more mainstream right-wing media figures like Fox News hosts Tucker Carlson and Pete Hegseth suggested that only God controls the weather. Media Matters, [12/11/23]
- Climate change drove extreme wildfires in 2023.An August study found that human-induced climate change made Quebec’s 2023 fire season at least twice as likely and roughly 20% more intense. In the U.S. this year, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration tracked 25 weather or climate disasters with losses exceeding $1 billion each. World Weather Attribution, [8/22/23; NOAA, 12/8/23]
2024 will be another crucial year for climate action, with the U.S.’s climate leadership and goals hinging on the election. While a recent CNN poll found that two-thirds of U.S. adults are concerned about the impacts of climate change in their communities, we can expect to see right-wing media assist GOP efforts to delegitimize and derail Biden’s landmark climate policy, the Inflation Reduction Act. In tandem, bad actors will also likely continue to shift the focus from these devastating impacts in order to vilify those speaking out about them, creating the potential for even more violence.

the False Assumptions Behind Climate Regulations in Pennsylvania
By Kevin Mooney
December 06, 2022
While they were in the majority, Pennsylvania House Republicans spent their political capital to advance American energy independence, free speech rights, and scientific integrity.
Unlike too many their counterparts in Washington D.C., they were not cowed by hostile press coverage or well-funded pressure groups that have a stake in undermining sound science. Most recently, for instance, the House Environmental Resources and Energy Committee held a hearing this fall exploring the benefits of fossil fuels and pitfalls of “emergency declarations” advanced in the name of climate change.
Since Gov. Tom Wolf, the state’s outgoing Democratic governor, first announced back in October 2019 that he was taking executive action to combat climate change, Republican leaders have held a series of hearings calling attention to scientific data that debunks climate alarmism. They have also worked in partnership with Pennsylvania Democrats representing the energy sector to prevent Wolf from circumventing the state legislature along the way toward imposing carbon taxes.
In April, the Pennsylvania Senate fell just one vote shy of the requisite two-thirds majority needed to override Wolf’s veto of a concurrent resolution from the full General Assembly that would prevent the commonwealth from joining the multi-state climate change compact. Three Senate Democrats joined with Republicans in the override attempt. At issue, is the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative, commonly known as RGGI, a “cap and trade” regulatoryscheme operating under the guise of climate change that is designed to curtail carbon dioxide emissions throughout the 11 participating New England and Mid-Atlantic states. Government regulators in the RGGI states require electric power plants with a capacity of at least 25 megawatts to purchase carbon allowances at quarterly auctions whenever utilities surpass the greenhouse gas initiative’s predetermined cap on Co2 emissions. Speculators have latitude to resell allowances at higher prices. The auction process, which has been in motion since 2009, is where carbon taxes enter the equation. State Rep. Jim Struzzi, a Republican in Indiana County, explains why.
“RGGI is a tax,” Struzzi said in an interview. “It taxes the carbon dioxide emissions that come from plants anytime they are generating electricity and so basically it punishes these companies for being successful by creating the electricity we need for reliable energy in those cold winter months and hot summer months. If these companies are going to stay in business someone is going to have to pay these costs; and it’s going to be the factories, it’s going to be the consumers, and it’s going to affect everyone.”
Struzzi is the lead sponsor of legislation that would prohibit the governor from joining RGGI and imposing carbon taxes without legislative approval. Wolf vetoed an earlier version of the bill, which seven of his own Democrats co-sponsored on the House side. Wolf is not exactly an outlier among climate change activists in government who are actively working to circumvent the democratic process.
In his testimony before the Pennsylvania House, Marc Morano, the editor and publisher of the Climate Depot website, told lawmakers that he sees a certain parallel between climate change initiatives the COVID-19 lockdowns at all levels of government impacting businesses and schools across the country.
“The Biden administration believes that when democracy fails to achieve its climate goals, it's time to bypass democracy and Congress and follow the COVID model. Climate activists havelusted after the COVID lockdowns as the model for climate lockdowns,” Morano said. “The plan is to declare a 'climate emergency,' toss out elected representatives and follow China's one-party rule model by implementing energy restrictions through the bureaucracy. They don't need no stinkin' democracy. Throughout history, emergency declarations have been used and abused to crush freedom. For those who loved howunelected officials ruled our lives under COVID lockdowns, prepare for the attempts to make climate and energy lockdowns permanent.”
During the same hearing, Kevin Dayaratna, a statistician and data scientist with The Heritage Foundation, presented testimony focusing attention on the “Social Cost of Carbon,” or SCC, which federal regulators define as “economic damages per metric ton of carbon dioxide emissions.” The Biden administration is using the SCC in various climate models to determine the long-term impact of CO2, Dayaratna said. However, these models are based on assumptions that may not square with reality, the Heritage analyst warned. These assumptions tend, for example, to overlook the environmental benefits of Co2 emissions such as the “greening of the planet” that occurred between 1982 and 2009, Dayaratna said. At the same time, the models omit the deleterious effect of regulations that restrict Co2 emissions, he observed.Dayaratna cited figures from the Heritage Foundation that point to a severe economic fallout to U.S. that could result from rejoining the U.N.’s Paris Climate Agreement. By 2040, the U.S. could experience an average employment shortfall of more than 1.2 million lost jobs, loss of income of more than $87,000 for a family of four, and up to a 30% increase in household electricity expenditure, with an aggregate $7 trillion loss in GDP, Dayaratna said.
In Pennsylvania, the state-level outlook is every bit as bleak. The Commonwealth Foundation, a free-market group based in Harrisburg, has just published an analysis that finds RGGI’s “carbon tax regime” could lead to a 114% hike in electricity bills. Although Wolf had Pennsylvania join RGGI this year, the state has not participated in the most recent auctions since Wolf’s executive actions are the subject of legal challenges. Industry and labor groups have filed suit challenging the governor’s ability to act unilaterally on climate change policy as have state senators who have raised questions about the separation of powers. As a solution, the Commonwealth Foundation has proposed passing a constitutional amendment to allow the General Assembly “to disapprove regulations as a check on an agency’s power to restrict energy development in the state.”
Josh Shapiro, the incoming Democratic governor, expressed misgivings about Wolf’s approach toward RGGI while on the campaign trail. Since being elected, he hasn’t made any firm commitments about the state’s future participation. A constitutional amendment offers him a way out.
With his party poised to take a slim majority in the House next year, Shapiro will still need to contend with labor constituents and House Democrats residing in energy producing regions who are opposed to RGGI. Meanwhile, the scientific and economic rationale for the climate change initiative continues to unravel. Gregory Wrightstone, a geologist, and executive director of the Co2 Coalition, has repeatedly informed Pennsylvania House members thatCo2 is a “miracle molecule” that greatly benefits humanity and deserves greater appreciation.
“Critics of fossil fuels routinely exaggerate, and sometimes outright fabricate, their negative effects while ignoring altogether their enormous benefits,” Wrightstone said during his latest testimony before the Pennsylvania House.
“Coal and oil fueled the Industrial Revolution, which gave us unprecedented prosperity and health. Together with natural gas, they promise to raise billions of people in developing countries from poverty and deprivation. Modern economies cannot long survive without fossil fuels. In short, we love CO2 and so should you.”
In a victory forfree speech, climate skeptics have found expression before the Pennsylvania legislature like they have in few other public venues. In a potential victory for American energy, these same skeptics have also exposed the faulty assumptions underpinning costly regulations while alsocalling attention to unconstitutional executive actions.
Kevin Mooney is an investigative reporter with both the Commonwealth Foundation and the Heritage Foundation.

Inconvenient Facts: Debunking Climate Alarmists Commonwealth Foundation 11/2/17
Nov 2, 2017 Gordon Tomb
Governments should focus on supporting economic prosperity to enable better adaption to climate changes instead ofcontrolling carbon footprints. Consider the contrast in hurricanerecoveries between Florida, where an electricity system strengthened bysound investments was quickly restored, and Puerto Rico, whose neglected equipment was practically wiped from the island.
A mountain of evidence for this view is contained in "Inconvenient Facts: The science that Al Gore doesn't want you to know." Written by Gregory Wrightstone of Pittsburgh, the book puts climate change into a geologic context of billions of years -- a perspective derived fromthe author's 35 years as a geologist.
Mr. Wrightstone's approach contrasts sharply to the climate alarmist's use of snapshots of time -- whether a century or adecade or a single storm -- to justify discarding economic systems anddestroying people's lives to reduce global temperatures by fractions of a degree.
"I know that the brief hundred or so years of recordedtemperatures--and the even shorter time-frame since the first satellitewas launched--is just a blink of a geologic eye," says Mr. Wrightstone."It is too brief a period to evaluate the data adequately."
Backed by voluminous studies, "Inconvenient Facts"assures that modern warming is neither unusual nor catastrophic. Of thelast 10,000 years since the last major ice age, 6,100 years were warmerthan today. Humans have thrivedin previous periods significantly warmer than our modern age, mostrecently in the 13th century when Vikings farmed Greenland and citrusgrew in England.
Conversely, people have suffered during cold periodssuch as the Little Ice Age (1290-1850), which was marked by famine anddisease.
While the Earth has experienced a steady decline incarbon dioxide levels for more than 500 million years, the book says, recent increases of the wrongly maligned gas is tied to a greening of25-50 percent of the Earth -- a positive, fertilizing effect of higherCO2 levels on plants.
One apocalyptic myth after another -- from the purportedthreats of rising sea levels to vanishing polar bears -- is destroyed byMr. Wrightstone's collection of research. Rather than a world lurchinginto a man-made climate hell from which there is no return, the Earth'secosystems and humankind are thriving.
Written for the non-scientist, the book has more than 90 illustrations and 60 "inconvenient" facts rendered to a sentence ortwo. It effectively debunks proposals for economically destructiveprograms to control the uncontrollable -- a perpetual cycle of glacialice and "blessed warmth" driven by eternal terrestrial and solar forces.
"(T)he first and most important conclusion is that thecorrect policy to address the non-problem of man-made global warming isto have the courage to do nothing," Mr. Wrightstone says.
Nothing, we would add, but to allow humankind the freedom to advance economically and technologically as it has done so wondrously since the onset of the Industrial Revolution.
Sixty nails in climate alarmism's coffin
ByJerry Shenk November 16, 2017 There are plenty of well-credentialed, objective, if little-publicized,climate skeptics, but few who are able to present their material inlayman's terms to an audience of curious, unschooled, but receptiveclimate truth-seekers.
A new resource provides a point-by-point review and response to each ofthe climate industry's claims, citing the "normalcy" of much of their"alarming" data.
In an entertaining, easy-to-read, elegantly-written,meticulously-researched, well-documented and illustrated 143-page book(including citations) entitled "Inconvenient Facts: The science that Al Gore doesn't want you to know," geologist Gregory Wrightstone presents a clear picture of the climatealarmism that attracts cynical big-government advocates and grips muchof the scientific community, complicit media and the gullible among us.
Wrightstone employs government sources, peer-reviewed publications and otherscholarly works to reassure readers that our Earth has become healthierand more prosperous because of rising carbon dioxide and temperaturelevels, rather than in spite of them.
The book details sixty inconvenient facts. Considering the climatealarmists' persistent clamor about "scientific consensus." Arguably,Inconvenient Fact #31 should have appeared first: "Science is notconsensus and consensus is not science."
Wrightstone's droll observation about the financial incentives driving manycareer-invested scientists to mislead or overstate the "catastrophic"potential of climate change, often without historical or even
Some highlights: Only a trace gas, carbon dioxide isn't the primary greenhouse gas; CO2's warming effect declines as its concentration increases; and CO2 is plant food, so more of it means moister soil, fewer droughts and forest fires, a greener Earth, more plant growth and more food for humans and animals.
Wrightstone also reveals anxiety over rising temperatures to be just another climate alarm shibboleth. Humans didn't cause 800,000 years ofconstant, normal, cyclical temperature changes, including the past10,000 years, 6,100 of which were warmer than today. In fact, warminghas paused for nearly two decades despite marginal increases in CO2.
Indeed, warmer climates are better than cold ones for humans and most animalspecies. World-wide, annually, there are far more cold-related thanheat-related deaths. Moreover, in addition to a greener Earth, increased CO2 and higher temperatures together provide other shared benefits, including longer growing seasons, more crop cycles and greater humanfood security.
Wrightstone's book serves to reinforce beliefs already held by most practical people: Climate does change -- that's indisputable -- but, rather than spending trillions to "fix" it, practical people would first examine observableevidence and, if persuaded, they would adapt -- just as prehistoric Homo sapiens did entering and exiting the last ice age.
Presented in a format that allows readers to decide, Wrightstone's book is wellworth the time to read. Most importantly, perhaps, it will, inunderstandable, usable terms, provide informed skeptics the informationthey need to resist the progressive alarmists who preach to us all.

The 'Inconvenient Facts' About Global Warming That Al Gore Does Not Want Us to Know
In an era where the Democrats' braintrust, socialists like Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez,areworking to remove beef from the menu to combat global warming, there's an"Inconvenient App" that makes you and me the smartest climate gurus at thedinner table.
Derived from Gregory Wrightstone'sbook "Inconvenient Facts: The Science Al Gore Doesn't Want You toKnow," this new app features 60 facts that seriously undermineclaims from collectivists that man-made global warming is destroying theplanet.
Tap your Android or iPhone, andthere is a graphic showing that the current warming trend began 300 years ago, wellbefore Henry Ford introduced the Model T or Al Gore invented the internet.
Touch a tab to access a briefanalysis, another tab for a video of Wrightstone's commentary, and a third fora list of references.
It is amazing how much documented -and coherent -- information is packed into this tiny app, making the smartphonean utterly appropriate resource and you a smugly clever person.
Now in its third printing, the bookhas led Wrightstone, a Pittsburgh-based geologist, to scores of television andradio shows and to presentations at colleges, conferences and communitymeetings.
Backed by voluminous studies, "Inconvenient Facts" assures readers that modern warming is neither unusual norcatastrophic. Of the last 10,000 years since the last major ice age, 6,100years were warmer than today (Inconvenient Fact #20). Humans have thrived inprevious periods significantly warmer than our modern age, most recently in the13th century, when Vikings farmed Greenland and citrus grew in England.
Conversely, people have suffered during cold periods such as theLittle Ice Age (1290-1850), which was marked byfamine and disease.
While the Earth has experienced asteady decline in carbon dioxide levels for more than 500 million years, thebook says, recent increases of the wrongly maligned gas is tied to a greeningof up to 50 percent of the Earth -- a positive, fertilizing effect of higher CO2levels on plants (Inconvenient Fact #37).
One apocalyptic myth after another --from purported threats of rising sea levels to vanishing polar bears -- isdestroyed by Wrightstone's collection of research. Rather than a world lurchinginto a man-made climate hell from which there is no return, the Earth'secosystems and humankind are thriving.
Written for the non-scientist, thebook and the app effectively debunk proposals for economically destructiveprograms to control the uncontrollable -- a perpetual cycle of glacial ice and"blessed warmth" driven by eternal terrestrial and solar forces.
"The first and most importantconclusion is that the correct policy to address the non-problem of man-madeglobal warming is to have the courage to do nothing," Wrightstone says.
This message is sure to interruptthe agenda of Marxists attempting to use fear of the fantasy of man-made globalwarming to advance their dark designs.
The message will also have thebenefit of promoting inevitable bouts of indigestion in the less informed amongus at the dinner table.

Hammering Nails Into Man-Made Global Warming's Coffin
I have a confession to make. I am a climate change skeptic and becoming more so seemingly by the day. It is not that I don't believe that the Earth has warmed over the last 150 or so years, the science clearly supports that contention. I am, however, skeptical of the notion that humans are now responsible for temperature changes and that increasing temperatures are leading to horrible climate-related consequences for the Earth and humanity.
While I am certainly not a scientist nor an expert on climate change, I have consumed a large number of books from both sides of the issue and have an amply stocked bookshelf in my den on the subject. I find that most of books on climate are difficult for the non-scientist to read, much less digest. They tend to be overly technical for the layman, not well-illustrated and commonly overly-politicized.
I discovered my now go-to climate change book "Inconvenient Facts - the science that Al Gore doesn't want you to know" quite by accident nearly six months ago and it is becoming dog-eared from my constant referencing of it. Geologist Gregory Wrightstone's debut book is eminently readable, understandable and very well-illustrated. With more than 90 color illustrations and 14 pages of references, the book treads a hard-to-manage balance between well-researched science and a fascinating read.
Throughout the book, the author provides easily understandable graphics and analysis of his 60 "inconvenient facts." These are facts, backed up by references to NASA, NOAA or peer-reviewed studies, that show in detail and clarity just how wrong much of what I thought that I knew is incorrect.
Wrightstone opens the book with a perfectly apropos quote from H. L. Mencken who references the need for governments and institutions to create "an endless series of hobgoblins, all of them imaginary" in order to get its citizens to buy into otherwise harmful policies and regulations. The last half of his book is devoted to dispelling many of these climate "hobgoblins" which he calls "climate apocalypse" events.Using science and data, he systematically takes down notions of increasing tornadoes, hurricanes, heat waves, drought and many more.
Early in the book, prefacing a series of particularly damning "inconvenient facts," Wrightstone writes that they will be "part of the cumulative evidence that will eventually drive the final nails into the coffin of the catastrophic man-made warming theory." He comes back to this analogy of hammering nails into global warming's coffin throughout this seminal book. Now, Mr. Wrightstone has provided me with the hammer with which to drive the nails in the form of a smart phone app.
I have often wished that I had the book in hand when discussing the subject with colleagues and now, thankfully, the new app allows me to leave the book at home, but to bring the facts with me. The recently released ground-breaking smart phone app is based in his 60inconvenient facts. Each of the facts are presented within the app with a chart or illustration that clearly shows and documents the subject. Included are links to text explaining it, commonly a video created by the author and a link to the source of the data behind the graphic.
Simply put, the app is amazing. The huge amount of information on my phone has given me the ability to speak more confidently to others concerning many aspects of climate change. The book is great, but the app is actually more powerful, in that I see that this can be a game-changer in the debate. I envision citizens that now can confront the notion of pending climate doom by empowering them with the knowledge in the palm of their hand.

From the Author
The genesis of this book was a desire to discover the truth about a link between man's activities and the warming trend that is evident. I trusted no one, so I did a deep dive into the base data and what I found shocked me to the core. In nearly every portion of climate science (which eventually turned into chapters), I found that what I was told by the media was contradicted by the science, facts and data.

Woke Companies Must Wake Up on ESG
Paul DriessenPaul Driessen|Posted: Sep 04, 2021
The opinions expressed by columnists are their own and do not necessarily represent the views of Townhall.com.
Growing numbers of companies, banks, universities and investment houses are adopting Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) standards and disclosure rules. They’re pressured to do so by activists, legislators and regulators. Many expect to get rich via taxpayer-subsidized “renewable” energy projects.
Nearly all hope to “greenwash” their reputations, by claiming they’ll “make the world a better place,” by reducing fossil fuel emissions, and thus planetary temperatures and extreme weather events.
They recently got a boost from the US House of Representatives. It voted 215-214 party-line to pass a bill supporting Securities and Exchange Commission plans to impose new ESG rules requiring publicly traded companies to disclose “climate risks” caused by oil, gas and coal production and use. Some think ESG climate claims and misconduct could receive greater SEC scrutiny, though that seems unlikely.
Woke organizations need to wake up to climate, ESG and renewable energy realities.
The ever-more-hysterical climate and weather claims have been roundly debunked by Dr. Roy Spencer, Gregory Wrightstone, Marc Morano, Steven Koonin and others. But what’s truly outrageous about ESG is the way it studiously ignores the massive, widespread damage inflicted by pseudo-renewable energy.
Wind and sunlight certainly are clean, renewable and sustainable. But harnessing their highly dispersed, unpredictable, weather-dependent energy to meet humanity’s huge and growing energy needs absolutely is not. That requires lands and raw materials that are anything but renewable– using fuels and processes that are absolutely not clean, green, ecological or sustainable. Because they fail to recognize this, ESG programs are dishonest, even fraudulent – and must be reformed or scrapped.
Wind, solar and battery land and raw material requirements are astronomical. Onshore wind turbines require nine times more metals and minerals per megawatt than a modern combined-cycle gas power plant. One onshore 3-MW turbine foundation needs 600 cubic yards (1,500 tons) of concrete, plus rebar.
Offshore wind requires 14 times more materials per MW.Just the 2,100 850-foot-tall offshore turbines (30,000 megawatts) that President Biden wants to install by 2030 would require110,000 tons of copper, plus millions of tons of steel, aluminum, fiberglass, cobalt, rare earth metals and other materials.
At an average of 0.44% copper in ore deposits worldwide, the copper alone would require mining and processing25 million tons of ore, after removing 40 million tons of overburden to reach the ore bodies!
Add in materials for solar panels, more onshore and offshore wind turbines, backup battery systems, electric vehicles, transmission lines, and all-electric home heating and cooking systems – to run the entire USA, Europe and world – and the “green energy transformation” would require hundreds of billions of tons of metals, minerals and plastics, trillions of tons of ores, trillions of tons of overburden, and thousands of mines, processing plants and factories. Nearly all these operations employ fossil fuels.
America’s laws and attitudes make mining in the United States nearly impossible, even to support ESG-certified “green” energy facilities. That means most mining and processing will be done in Africa, Asia and Latin America, increasingly by Chinese companies. The manufacturing is done increasingly in China, which is why that country is building more coal-fired power plants every month.
Pseudo-clean-energy activities utilize hazardous chemicals and release toxic pollutants. They require vast volumes of water, often in the world’s most water-deprived regions. They cause acid mine drainage, create mountains of waste rock, and often result in vast “lakes” of toxic chemicals from refining the ores. Most are conducted under almost nonexistent pollution control, mined-land reclamation, endangered species, workplace safety, child and slave labor, and fair wage rules.
Cobalt mining already involves 40,000 African children, as young as four! Many Chinese solar panels are made with Uighur forced labor. ESG “green” aspirations would multiply this slavery many times over.
These travesties occur overseas – out of sight and out of mind – letting ESG activists and profiteers make incessant false claims that fossil fuel replacement energy is clean and virtuous. But when wind, solar and battery facilities are installed, adverse consequences will reverberate across the United States.
Hundreds of millions of acres of scenic, wildlife habitat and coastal areas would be impacted; millions of birds, bats, tortoises and other wildlife displaced, maimed and killed. And when their short productive lives are finished, billions of turbine blades, solar panels and batteries will be sent to gigantic landfills, because they cannot be recycled; their toxic metals and chemicals could leach out into soils, streams and groundwater. The same will happen in Europe, Canada, Australia and elsewhere.
Even on windy days, Mr. Biden’s 2,100 monstrous offshore turbines won’t meet New York State peak summertime electricity needs. Meeting just US coastal city needs would require tens of thousands of turbines. Dredge-and-fill operations associated with installing them would smother mollusks and other benthic species. Vibration noises would harm whale and porpoise navigation and communication. Their mere presence would create major safety issues for aircraft and fishing, naval and commercial vessels.
A single industrial solar facility near Fredericksburg, Virginia required clearcutting thousands of acres of forest habitat. Solar installations proposed for the American Southwest would blanket millions of acres of desert habitats. Dominion Energy is planning solar facilities on Virginia acreage totaling one-fourth of Delaware. Wind and solar operations would threaten or eradicate dozens of bird and other species that environmentalists have utilized for decades to stop drilling, fracking and pipeline projects.
Connecting far-flung wind, solar and battery installations to industrial centers and urban areas would require thousands of miles of new transmission lines – and still more steel, copper and concrete. Battery fires have already destroyed electric vehicles and homes. Imagine huge warehouses filled with thousands of battery modules erupting into enormous, uncontrollable conflagrations.
Biodiesel projects have already destroyed important orangutan habitats, and thousands of acres of US hardwood forests have been turned into wood pellets for Britain’s Drax Power Plant.
Threatened, endangered, migratory and marine species must be protected –wherever mining, processing and manufacturing take place, and wherever “renewable” energy installations are contemplated. Human health impacts from infrasound and light flicker must guide decisions on how close to homes and businesses wind turbines may be installed.
Reformed ESG rules – call them Environment and Human Rights (EHR) principles – must require that all these issues are addressed for every wind, solar, battery, transmission and biofuel proposal.
People must know in advance how many turbines, panels, batteries and power lines are contemplated; how many tons of metals, minerals, concrete and plastics they will require; where those materials will come from; under what environmental, pollution, safety, wage and child labor standards. Companies and government agencies must certify that supply chains are free from child or slave labor.
Project-specific, comprehensive and cumulative US and global environmental studies must be conducted before any projects are approved, and must include regular, independent reviews of bird, bat, reptile, whale, porpoise and other wildlife displacements, injuries and deaths. Project studies must fully assess all environmental, human health, human rights and other impacts worldwide, and must not be fast-tracked.
These reality-based EHR principles will help ensure that any “green future” is founded on ethical standards that address all human and ecological consequences, and actually do make the world a better place. They can also help guide SEC investigations and prosecutions for ESG misconduct and fraud – and help spur much-needed mining in the United States, to reduce our reliance on China, Russia, Taliban Afghanistan and other adversarial countries for critical and strategic minerals.

“Freak yachting accidents do happen…”
That was how British businessman, Trump ally, and Brexit bankroller Arron Banks responded to the news that Greta Thunberg, the Swedish teen who inspired the school climate strikes movement, was sailing to America to attend the UN Climate Action Summit. His scorn was not unique.
Many people have already spilled thousands of words of commentary explaining how personal attacks on Greta — often lobbed by old white men, sometimes mocking her Aspergers — are unacceptable. But understanding where those attackers come from, ideologically and professionally, casts an important light on some of their dark statements.
That’s because a large subsection of the commentariat driving the abuse of Greta is part of an established network of radical free-marketeer lobby groups — a network that has firm ties to the fossil fuel industry and funders of climate science denial.
European Attacks
Greta first shot to prominence in Europe, and that’s where the earliest mudslinging emerged.
Banks’ tweet was one of the most high-profile. He is among the most prominent funders of Brexit, with long-standing ties to the UK Independence Party and its former leader Nigel Farage. UKIP’s politician, Neil Hamilton, was one of the first to be called out for posting what was perceived by many as a bullying tweet directed at Greta, who is 16 years old.

Farage has now set up a new outfit, the Brexit Party, also bankrolled by Banks. The party has 29 members in the European Parliament, many of them climate science deniers, thanks to winning 30 percent of the vote in May’s elections.
While resisting calls to form an official alliance, the Brexit Party MEPs join other far-right populist parties in Brussels, including Marine Le Pen’s National Rally (formerly the Front National) and Alternative for Germany (AfD). All are united in their hatred for Greta. Two National Rally MPs recently boycotted her visit to France, and AfD representatives have made coordinated attacks on social media.
Those aggressions were orchestrated by the European Institute for Climate and Energy (EIKE) — an organisation known for co-sponsoring events with U.S. free-market think tank, the Heartland Institute.
Trans-Atlantic Potshots
It’s perhaps unsurprising to find that many of the U.S. commentators verbally assaulting Greta also have ties to the Heartland Institute, given the organisation’s Big Oil funding and long-history of promoting climate science denial.
The institute’s website published a long blog post by one of its ‘policy experts’, Gregory Wrightstone, who attempted to refute many of Thunberg’s arguments for climate action. “It is time for her to go back to school to learn what she doesn’t know and to unlearn so much of what she has been taught,” he concluded.

Many other critics of Greta in the U.S. are tied to another of Heartland’s funders, the Koch family, owners of the U.S.’s largest private energy company.
Marc Morano, communications director of campaign group Committee for a Constructive Tomorrow (CFACT), and a regular speaker at Heartland Institute events, has a long history of spreading misinformation about climate change.
He was also one of the loudest critics of Greta’s visit to the U.S., appearing on Ezra Levant’s Rebel Media to describe the young activist as “bait” to entrap critics of climate policy. Levant was an intern at the Charles Koch Foundation and later worked for the Koch-funded Fraser Institute.
Morano’s arguments were echoed on CFACT’s website by Joe Bastardi, a meteorologist who worked for AccuWeather, a private forecasting company that in the 1990s was involved with the Global Climate Coalition (GCC) — a now-defunct fossil fuel industry front group that strongly opposed global greenhouse gas reduction policies.
CFACT has received significant donations from oil companies including Exxon and Chevron, as well as oil billionaire Richard Scaife.
One of Greta’s most prominent critics has been Steve Milloy, a self-styled “pioneer” fighting against “faulty scientific data used to advance special, and often hidden, agendas.” Milloy is, among other things, an adjunct scholar at the Competitive Enterprise Institute (CEI).

Greta Thunberg urges people to to 'unite behind the science' in powerful climate change speech
Embedded video
The CEI’s director of energy and environment, Myron Ebell, was part of of President Trump’s Environmental Protection Agency transition team, and is infamous for making regular media appearances spreading oft-debunked misinformation on climate change.
CEI has raised millions of dollars in donations from the fossil fuel industry, including ExxonMobil, and the Koch family foundations.
Back to Brexit
The Koch network’s influence isn’t confined to the U.S. media. One of the most vicious attacks on the teenage climate activist has come from Brendan O’Neill, editor of the Koch-funded website Spiked. He wrote of Greta:
“This poor young woman increasingly looks and sounds like a cult member. The monotone voice. The look of apocalyptic dread in her eyes. The explicit talk of the coming great ‘fire’ that will punish us for our eco-sins. There is something chilling and positively pre-modern about Ms Thunberg.”
O’Neill’s comments were “proof” that O’Neill and many others who write on Spiked’s platform had “run out of ideas”, according to Guardian columnist Aditya Chakrabortty.
One such regular contributor is James Delingpole, who now predominantly writes for the alt-right website Breitbart. One of his latest articles describes Greta as the “Patron Saint of the Age of Stupid”.
Delingpole’sarticles frequently cite the UK’s premier climate misinformation outlet, the Global Warming Policy Foundation (GWPF). Like Breitbart, the Conservative Woman website, edited by GWPF-director Kathy Gyngell, also hosts multiple articles assailing Greta. Breitbart was formerly run by Steve Bannon, President Donald Trump’s former chief strategist.
Check out DeSmog's special series: The New Climate Activism
Which brings us back to Arron Banks.
Bannon played a key role in the early days of the Brexit campaign spearheaded by Banks and Farage. Bannon was also a director of Cambridge Analytica, the political consultancy embroiled in a scandal over the use of big data during the Brexit referendum and which was involved with Banks and Farage’s Leave.EU group.
The Brexit Party is at the forefront of efforts to lobby for the UK to leave the European Union with no deal on October 31. That eventuality would possibly open the door for mass deregulation of the UK’s markets, a shredding of the UK’s environmental protections, and a fire sale of national assets for favoured U.S. companies — causes close to the hearts of all the groups behind the individuals attacking Greta.
