Here are the right-wing media figures endorsing “despicable” ad from Ohio Republican gubernatorial nominee Vivek Ramaswamy

The ad features Democratic nominee Amy Acton’s estranged mother, who defended her husband’s reported sexual assault of Acton when she was a child

Multiple right-wing media figures are promoting an ad released this week by Ohio Republican gubernatorial nominee Vivek Ramaswamy’s campaign targeting his Democratic opponent, Amy Acton, featuring her mother calling her a liar. However, Acton has been estranged from her parent since the age of 12 in 1978, when her mother defended the candidate’s stepfather against accusations he had sexually assaulted Acton for two years, then fled the state with him as he became a fugitive from charges of child sexual abuse.

In Ramaswamy’s ad, which right-wing media personalities praised as “brilliant” and “absolutely hilarious,” Acton’s estranged mother accused her of lying about her past. But court records accessed by ABC affiliate News 5 Cleveland back up Acton’s story, with the outlet reporting, “Mahoning County Court records we obtained show that Cledith Arthur was arrested and charged with sexually abusing Acton, then 12 years old. The abuse went from ages 10-12, she said.” The article continued: “After pleading not guilty, he posted bond and fled, becoming a fugitive of the state until his death in 2004. Police tried to find him for numerous years, documents state. He and Acton's mother moved to Pennsylvania, according to public records.”

Acton’s brother, Philip Stearns, issued a statement following the Ramaswamy ad’s release, saying, “It’s not surprising that Vivek Ramaswamy has stooped to such a despicable low as to attempt to turn the sexual abuse Amy endured at twelve years old from our birth mother’s husband into a political talking point. … After he was arrested and Amy and I were removed from their custody, our birth mother stayed married to Amy’s rapist until he died.”

Yet some right-wing media personalities are celebrating the ad, which Ramaswamy campaign manager Jonathan Ewing said “is a campaign-ending moment for Amy Acton.” Ramaswamy also shared commentary on the ad and Acton more generally from right-wing podcaster Megyn Kelly.

Daily Wire host Michael Knowles praised Ramaswamy’s ad as “brilliant, brilliant.” Knowles added: “I think it's a very, very effective ad. It's brutal.” [The Daily Wire, The Michael Knowles Show, 10/20/26]

Newsmax host Greg Kelly: “Everybody in Ohio and the country should be listening to Amy Acton's mom.” Kelly repeatedly praised Acton’s mother, saying, “The mother speaks with love here. I believe the mother loves Amy.” He continued: “And she seems like a very nice lady, actually.” Kelly concluded: “Wow, that's some — the mother, I believe her.” [Newsmax, The Greg Kelly Show, 10/20/26]

Steve Bannon’s guest admits that a national emergency declaration on elections would likely be overturned by the Supreme Court

Brian Kennedy threw cold water on a central pillar of MAGA’s efforts to subvert the midterm elections, the latest setback for the movement and a sign they don't believe they'll get an emergency declaration before the midterms

Written by John Knefel

Published 09/16/26

A guest on Steve Bannon’s War Room podcast acknowledged on September 16 that if President Donald Trump is going to declare a national emergency and try to seize power over election systems, the order would definitely be challenged in court and would almost certainly be overturned.

Brian Kennedy, senior fellow at MAGA-aligned think tank the Claremont Institute and frequent War Room guest, argued that Wayne Allyn Root, another Bannon favorite, was wrong in claiming that a national emergency declaration would be unreviewable by courts.

“With all due respect to Wayne Allyn Root — I myself have said we need very firm executive action, I’ve said it last year and I said it this year — but I always thought it would be challenged legally and taken to the Supreme Court,” Kennedy said.

“And Wayne Allyn Root and that national security emergency memorandum would almost — excuse me, would certainly — certainly be challenged by the Supreme Court,” he continued. “There's no mechanism by which the president has unilateral authority over this."

Bannon later returned to Root’s theory — including a reference to Peter Ticktin, a lawyer aligned with Root — only for Kennedy to repeat his earlier analysis of the flaws to their approach.

“Wayne Allyn Root — the underlying thesis of him and Ticktin and these people is that if the president declares a national security emergency and lays out his reasons for it, that’s virtually bulletproof in the courts,” Bannon said. “You don’t buy that?”

“No, I think they misread the underlying court case that justifies their position in doing so,” Kennedy replied.

“Doing a national security emergency declaration like this would immediately cause one state to sue another state, or states to sue the federal government in combination, and that would immediately go to the Supreme Court,” Kennedy added. “And we saw what the Supreme Court did with Brett Kavanaugh. He said there wasn’t time."

“The court itself is not on the side of the president,” Kennedy said. “It’s going to take the side of the states in this regard. This is something that needed to be hashed out over the last 18 months, and waiting until the last, you know, six weeks before the election is simply — is reasonably speaking not going to be enough time, the court is going to argue, for this to happen."

Kennedy concluded: “I applaud Wayne Allyn Root and Peter Ticktin for their overall thrust here, but when it comes to the actual application of the law here I think the other side is going to win out."

Bannon and guests seem resigned that Trump won’t issue a national emergency declaration before the midterms

For months, Bannon, Root, Ticktin, and others have been openly plotting to subvert the midterms by falsely claiming China has interfered in U.S. elections, then using that manufactured evidence as justification to declare a national emergency and seize control of election systems.

Kennedy’s remarks are the latest evidence that the election denial movement is faltering and appears to be pivoting to a new tactic: preemptively blaming the courts for any future Republican losses. After the Supreme Court blocked Trump’s efforts to limit mail-in ballots, election denier Cleta Mitchell acknowledged the headwinds her movement faced on Bannon’s September 15 episode.

“I don't see that there's anything that can be done on a broad scale before this election, unfortunately,” Mitchell said, adding: “There's so much wrong with this, but honestly I'm pretty tired of these weenies on the U.S. Supreme Court who keep siding with the Marxist girls."

Bannon sounded a similar note in closing out his September 16 episode, following his interview with Kennedy.

“We’ve got to get maniacally focused on this because November could be a wake-up call,” Bannon said. “We’ve just got to be honest with the people at the coalition — all of it, all these hard workers about voter integrity — we didn’t get the voter integrity that we want. So November is going to be what November is, and we’re going to have to live with it and deal with it after that.”

Who is Wayne Allyn Root, the right-wing pundit pushing Trump to undermine the midterms?

Root, who has pushed conspiracy theories for years, has been one of the loudest proponents of a scheme in which Trump would declare a national emergency and seize control over election systems

Written by John Knefel

Wayne Allyn Root, a right-wing media figure in President Donald Trump's orbit who has spent years spreading conspiracy theories, is trying to advance a plot to subvert the upcoming midterm elections based on outlandish legal reasoning and expansive theories of presidential authority.

Trump has spent years pushing election denial. Who is this Root guy, and where does he come from?

Before we go deeper on who Root is, can you back up and explain what’s going on with this midterm stuff about a national emergency and cooked intelligence about China that’s been in the news?

So how does this Las Vegas pundit fit into the plan to declare a national emergency?

Root’s legal reasoning — that a national emergency declaration is unreviewable — sounds pretty half-baked, right?

So what happens if Trump issues this emergency declaration or these executive orders? What’s next?

Wow, this is a lot. What kind of conspiracy theories and stuff has Root pushed over the years? Is he as out there as you make him sound?

How close is Root to Trump? Does he really have direct access to the president?

WAYNE ALLYN ROOT (GUEST): And I said to myself, they're going to try and steal it. They're going to try and rig it, and they're going to cheat like crazy. We've got to stop them. This is the way to stop them. Why not go back to the same well, declare a national security emergency this time for elections instead of the border? It'll be a declaration by the president. I repeat, it's not an EO. It's not an executive order. It's a completely different animal.

They cannot take it to court. It cannot be challenged legally. That was a 1983 Supreme Court ruling, Chadha vs. INS. And it says you cannot challenge a national security emergency any other way. The only way to overturn it, two-thirds vote, both houses of Congress. So once again, just like 2019, it's a total repeat. Democrats claim they can. They can't. You can't legally challenge it, and you'll never get the two-thirds vote, and it will be in effect before the election.

And what will it contain? Voter photo ID, proof of citizenship, strict limits on mail-in ballots, and many other things that were not in the SAVE America Act. I mean, hypothetically, it could include an end to ballot harvesting, ballot drop boxes, and it could be an end to machine voting, and you could demand paper ballots. It can have anything the president's little heart desires, and I've been pitching this since March. And then I pitched it to the president in my 17th interview with him about two and a half, three weeks ago on my TV show. And President Trump said, “Stranger things have happened.” That was his answer, a very cryptic, mysterious answer, and the left went insane.

And I think he's going to do it because, Roger, since then, he's retweeted out or whatever words you want to use, re-truthed, at his Truth Social page, he's posted my idea and my columns about national security emergency for elections three times in the last two weeks. Why is he doing that if he doesn't plan to actually sign that declaration? So I think it's going to happen. It's either that or he's trolling the left. I think it's going to happen. I'm very, very excited and and confident and hopeful that it's going to happen.

Trump says “stranger things have happened” after Wayne Allyn Root pitches his national security emergency idea on elections directly to him

Written by Media Matters Staff

Published 08/11/26

In an interview with Wayne Allyn Root, a host for Real America's Voice and longtime supporter of the president, Donald Trump appeared to give credence to the emerging far-right notion that he could declare a national emergency regarding elections. Trump previously distanced himself from the notion. Media Matters has been documenting this for months.

Media figures who've pushed claims of widespread election fraud — some of whom say they have been involved with drafting such an order that is “sitting on his [Trump’s] desk” — have urged Trump to give himself “king-like powers” by implementing the proposal, as it would supposedly empower Trump to “be able to make the rules” and use the National Guard to oversee midterm elections.

John Solomon, Steve Bannon, Cleta Mitchell, and others have appeared to signal that Trump could attempt to severely curtail voting rights under the pretext of declaring a national security emergency posed by China.

Media Matters has been covering the right-wing media personalities converging on the idea of an executive order for Trump to sign regarding elections for nearly a year. In fact, Wayne Allyn Root laid out the same plan to Steve Bannon weeks ago.

Update (8/11/26, 3:30 pm ET): At Election Law Blog, Rick Hasen lays out a case for vigilance but against panic:

This is ridiculous and people should not panic over it. The President has no role to play in running elections, a points courts have repeatedly raised in challenges to his two executive orders on elections. Calling it a “national emergency” doesn’t change things. There’s no part of the Constitution or federal law that would give the President power to say how states run their mail ballot programs, voter id, etc.

Now Trump could do a lot of things bad by declaring an emergency (Just Security has a good primer). Perhaps under the Insurrection Act he could try to mess with posting by sending troops into the streets. For many reasons that I’ve talked about elsewhere, it’s very unlikely he’s going to do that for political reasons. But even that is not a power over elections. (I’m also much more worried he will try to illegally mess with the tabulation and certification of votes if there is a close election for control of the House or Senate.)

This CAP report does a good job showing that a president’s declaration of a national emergency would not give him power over elections. But this has been the fever dream of the conspiratorial right for quite some time, going back to Cleta Mitchell floating this idea a couple of years ago.

WAYNE ALLYN ROOT (HOST): Let's segue way to the midterm. Listen. This is the whole ball of wax, the whole kit and kaboodle, the whole kitchen sink. We got to win the midterm because, otherwise, the last two years of your presidency, you and I both know you're not going to be able to pass anything. We got to win. So what's the strategy to win the midterm?

PRESIDENT DONALD TRUMP (GUEST): Well, one thing is the Senate has to get going on SAVE America. I really believe that because people expect that to happen, and it has to happen. And you have a couple of Republicans who are voting for it, a few. You know, it's about an 89% issue with the overall population, including Democrats. SAVE America's voter ID — with photo, by the way. You know? It's nice to have them. They're fighting on the photo. We don't want a photo. Now why don't they want? Because they want to cheat. You know? It's very simple. There's only one reason. But we want to have that.

We want to have proof of citizenship. So it'd be nice to say, yes. I'm a citizen. Here's my citizenship. Proof of citizenship. And ideally, but we're not even stressing this because it's — that's only a 79% issue. You know, that's not in the 90s. The mail-in ballots are so corrupt. You know that.

ROOT: Right.

TRUMP: They're so corrupt. You saw it in California the other, a couple weeks ago when Spencer Pratt had a very substantial lead. And the election kept going on and on. You know, going on for weeks. It's — it might still be going on, actually. But, all of a sudden, you hear a report that the woman that nobody ever heard of is surging. Nobody ever heard of her. She's surging.

...

ROOT: So, let me put an idea in your head. OK? Because it's so hard to get the Senate to do anything, now they're on recess. They don't get anything done, if they never get the SAVE America Act done, you have the right to declare a national security emergency for elections and the Supreme Court ruled in 1983, under Reagan, that INS v. Chadha, that if you declare a national security emergency as the President of the United States, they can't challenge it. It can only be overturned by a two-thirds vote of both houses of Congress. So if you do this in the next month, we will get photo ID, proof of citizenship, and a limit to mail-in ballots and you don't even need the Senate's vote.

TRUMP: Let me just say that stranger things have happened OK? I'll leave it at that.

The plot to subvert the midterms is getting stranger and more dangerous

Right-wing media figures including Steve Bannon, John Solomon, and Cleta Mitchell appear to be weaving together a narrative about interference by China in US elections to justify a national emergency to curtail voting rights

Written by John Knefel

Published 07/02/26

Over the last several weeks, the outlines of a plot have begun to emerge that could signal how President Donald Trump, along with MAGA media figures and activists, could attempt to severely curtail voting rights under the pretext of declaring a national emergency posed by China.

The details of the scheme remain publicly vague, and may not yet come to pass, but the short version looks something like this: First, the White House would declassify and release documents purporting to show foreign interference in U.S. elections, especially by the Chinese Communist Party.

Next, Trump would use that supposed “proof” of a stolen election to declare a national emergency, thereby — according to those pushing this idea — giving him extraordinary powers over the upcoming midterms. That move would serve as a way to advance the anti-voting rights measures in the SAVE America Act, like forcing voters to prove their citizenship, without having to actually pass the law — which Congress, so far at least, appears reluctant to do.

The main players here come not only from the fever swamp backwaters of MAGA media, but also from the Office of the Director of National Intelligence and the White House. Former Trump adviser Steve Bannon is a central node, attempting to advance the operation on his War Room podcast, aired on right-wing network Real America’s Voice, long a major source of misinformation about the 2020 election.

The main players here come not only from the fever swamp backwaters of MAGA media, but also from the Office of the Director of National Intelligence and the White House

Bannon’s RAV colleague John Solomon, whose role in the plot appears to be running the declassification effort, was recently appointed to a White House “task force” into supposed election integrity. Solomon was Media Matters’ Misinformer of the Year in 2019 for his role in laundering misinformation about the Bidens and Ukraine through his opinion columns.

Also in the mix is Peter Schweizer, who founded the Government Accountability Institute with Bannon and has moved from spreading misinformation about the Clintons to claiming that China is taking over the United States by exploiting birthright citizenship.

Then there’s Cleta Mitchell, a right-wing lawyer who was on the January 2021 call when Trump urged Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger to “find” enough ballots to tip the state his way. She referenced Schweizer in a June 20 appearance on War Room, positively paraphrasing an argument he made on his podcast acknowledging that much of the voting activity he wants to suppress is actually legal.

“Peter Schweizer put it pretty well last week in a podcast that he does with Eric Eggers, and the question they posed is: If fraud is made — if election fraud is made legal, is it still fraud?” Mitchell asked. “Because what's happened in California over the last decade is that the far-left Democrat, socialist, Marxists, communists have completely upended every vestige of election integrity.” (Bannon had teed her up by referencing the Los Angeles mayoral primary, claiming without evidence: “They stole it right in front of our face and laughed at us the entire time.")

Mitchell is supported by a loose array of election deniers who have called on Trump to issue an executive order to seize “king-like powers” over voting systems, supported by the national emergency decree.

Bill Pulte, the newly installed acting DNI, and his recently appointed chief of staff, former Republican National Committee official Christina Norton, also appear to figure heavily into the plan. On June 20, Bannon said Pulte’s role at DNI is “to get to the bottom of the 2020 stolen election.” Ten days later, Bannon described Norton as “one of the top election fraud people in all of the RNC” and said Pulte is “signaling where he's going on this” with her hiring, adding that “my understanding is that there is going to be real revelations about the stealing of the 2020 election."

The same day, NBC News reported that Solomon’s task force “is gathering thousands of pages of documents from U.S. intelligence agencies, with plans to declassify some of them, so President Donald Trump can amplify new accusations about past elections.” In describing his unpaid role at the White House, Solomon said he will be releasing “some documents, some secrets you should know about when it comes to weaponization, election integrity, other things."

Solomon’s recent media footprint offers clues about what he is likely looking to find, declassify, and present — possibly out of context. The subhead of a May 6 article of Solomon’s states: “The evidence continues to stack up that the U.S. intel community sought to downplay China's actions in 2020 as Trump sought reelection.” Then, during a May 19 interview, he said: “We do know the FBI had grave suspicions that China was trying to rig the election, probably with help from people on the ground, to help Joe Biden specifically."

The Supreme Court’s narrow June 30 decision to protect birthright citizenship could turbocharge the Bannon-Solomon-Pulte scheme, in part by providing fodder for anti-Chinese sentiment on the right. On Solomon’s website, Just The News, an article about the birthright citizenship case referenced Schweizer’s book and hyped the supposed China menace.

Birthright citizenship abuse via birth tourism, when foreign nationals travel to the United States on temporary visas specifically to give birth, is an issue that Trump addressed early in his second term.

Investigative journalist Peter Schweizer detailed this practice extensively in his 2026 book, “The Invisible Coup: How American Elites and Foreign Powers Use Immigration as a Weapon,” in which he described how China has industrialized the practice on a large scale through an organized industry.

Michelle Mittelstadt of the Migration Policy Institute told FactCheck.org that “birth tourism is a very small occurrence – of the 3.6 million U.S. births annually, a tiny fraction is due to foreign women who are not regularly domiciled in the U.S. coming here for the purpose of giving birth to secure U.S. citizenship for their child.”

And as the American Immigration Council’s Dara Lind noted: “Consulates have a ton of discretion under existing law to deny someone a visa. And suspicion of birth tourism _has_ served as a reason to deny visas in the past. If the problem is insufficient enforcement, good news, you can solve that problem without changing the law or Constitution!”

Bannon stated plainly on June 29 that Solomon’s “task force” and “also Pulte” would be central to creating a “predicate” for the declaration of a national emergency and subsequent executive order achieving the anti-voting rights goals of the SAVE America Act.

On June 30, Bannon interviewed another of his RAV colleagues, Wayne Allyn Root, who further elaborated what a national emergency declaration could look like.

“Stop talking about the SAVE Act and do a national security emergency for elections, which is the SAVE Act, which contains everything that's in the SAVE Act, Steve, and more and more,” Root said.

Just days earlier, on June 24, Trump canceled a signing ceremony for a bipartisan housing bill to pressure Congress to pass the stalled out SAVE America Act, which he referred to as a “National Emergency."

The “predicate” Bannon is hoping to manufacture could also be for other election initiatives the administration is working on — such as trying to force courts to give the administration access to various state voter rolls — an issue the administration is facing significant resistance to.

Whether this harebrained plot congeals into an active conspiracy to subvert the midterms remains to be seen, but given that Trump has already tried to overturn one election it would be a mistake not to take these rumblings seriously. There may indeed be an emergency — it’s just not the one that Bannon and company are talking about.

CLETA MITCHELL (GUEST): You know, I think that - I don't know, but Amy Coney Barrett writes for the majority, and this is what is shocking, is that there are five justices of the Supreme Court who believe and who wrote in this opinion that there is a difference between casting the ballot, that is when the voters make their choice, and when the ballot is received. That makes no sense.

Frankly, according to their opinion, I actually think that this gives us good grounds to challenge early voting and to say that voting is — there's a lot in that opinion that would suggest that we ought to be challenging early voting. We ought to be challenging unfettered absentee voting because they also point out, which Marc Elias conveniently forgets to discuss, that — repeatedly they referred to the fact that the ballots had to be postmarked on or before election day.

Well, California doesn't require a postmark. I think we ought to challenge that. I think that what we have to do on our side is that we have to do what the left has done. And I know that that when Stephen Miller started America First Legal Foundation after — in 2021, the idea was to build a judicial attack mob that's similar to what the left has. And we haven't really done that.

I mean, they — there are — we've done a lot better. But these guys, the left challenges everything. And we are getting these terrible decisions from these awful left-wing trial court judges all over the country. And then this decision — to me, the worst part of this decision is it emboldens these left-wing crazy judges that are inhabiting our courts all over the country. That's the constitutional crisis we face, is all of these judges.

But I will tell you that I think that there is a roadmap in this. Unfortunately, it requires congressional action and we see how terrible Congress, the US Senate is. So I mean it's, we have a crisis because the judges are not letting the president do his job and they're trying to do Congress's job.

Election deniers reach a fever pitch calling for a “national emergency” declaration so Trump can give himself “king-like powers” over the midterms

Tina Peters: “I believe Trump could sign an executive order to get rid of the machines and say ... that a vendor cannot have that much influence over our elections”

Written by Alex Kaplan

Published 06/30/26

After President Donald Trump issued an executive order at the end of March aimed at stopping supposed fraud with mail-in ballots, election deniers have urged Trump to declare a national emergency to allow a federal takeover of election processes. On June 24, Trump echoed those calls and suggested that passing a bill to supposedly combat election fraud is a “national emergency.”

Media figures who have pushed claims of widespread election fraud — some of whom say they have been involved with drafting such an order that is “sitting on his [Trump’s] desk” — have urged Trump to give himself “king-like powers” by implementing the proposal, as it would supposedly empower Trump to “be able to make the rules” and use the National Guard to oversee midterm elections. Others claim that they have asked Trump directly to invoke the proposed order, saying it would be “very easy” for the president to “issue an executive order through a national emergency and have the National Guard count those ballots by hand.”

Election deniers drafted executive order declaring a national emergency to implement election policies and Trump issued an executive order on mail-in ballots

During his second term, Trump has issued two executive orders related to elections. As explained by The New York Times, a March 2025 order instructs the Election Assistance Commission “to require people to show government-issued proof of U.S. citizenship to register to vote in federal elections, and directs state or local officials to record and verify the information,” and it “seeks to require states to count ballots by Election Day.” Multiple federal judges have since blocked that executive order.

On March 31, Trump issued an executive order that directs the Department of Homeland Security to “compile and transmit to the chief election official of each State a list of individuals confirmed to be United States citizens who will be above the age of 18 at the time of an upcoming Federal election and who maintain a residence in the subject State,” and instructs the U.S. Postal Service to “transmit ballots only to individuals enrolled on a State-specific Mail-in and Absentee Participation List.” NPR reported that “election experts said the order was unconstitutional.” After Trump signed the executive order, election deniers hailed it as a “win” that will leave Democrats “toast.” On June 25, a federal judge blocked parts of the order.

While Trump reportedly “shrugged off reports that he could consider declaring a national emergency around the midterm elections,” he has repeatedly advocated for the SAVE America Act, which would put restrictions on voting but has struggled to pass in Congress. On June 24, Trump canceled plans to sign bipartisan housing legislation “until such time as we pass the desperately needed SAVE AMERICA ACT, which I consider to be a National Emergency.”

As the 2026 midterms approach, right-wing media and the Trump administration appear to have ramped up their efforts to undermine the midterm elections — invoking repeatedly debunked conspiracy theoriesabout widespread election fraud in the U.S., relying on one-off incidents and hypotheticals that are often exaggerated or misleading, and pushing for Trump policy priorities like the SAVE America Act.

Election deniers have already claimed that primaries for the 2026 midterms have featured election fraud, and Savin himself has claimed that the primary elections have been “laying the groundwork” for Trump to declare a national emergency — language which the president has now repeated.

Wayne Allyn Root and Kari Lake push conspiracy theory that opponent’s campaign is funded by “the Mexican drug cartel”

Root: “This is not clean money. This is dirty money in small amounts, they keep it under the radar.”

Right-wing conspiracy theorist Wayne Allyn Root claimed during an interview with Arizona Republican Senate nominee Kari Lake that opponent Ruben Gallego’s campaign is getting “their money” from Mexican cartels through his estranged father. Lake replied: “Yep, absolutely. The cartels are in operational control here in Arizona.”

The conspiracy theory is false. After Lake made similar remarks on Newsmax with right-wing host Greg Kelly last month, PolitiFact examined the claims and wrote: “Gallego’s father has been largely absent from Gallego’s life since Gallego was in junior high school and his parents divorced” and “there’s no evidence that Gallego has ‘links to the cartel’ because of his father’s criminal history. Lake’s campaign provided no evidence to support that claim.”

Root is a right-wing conspiracy theorist who recently forwarded the conspiracy theory that Hurricane Helene was the result of weather manipulation and said that “everyone involved should be tried for treason. Kamala, [Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro] Mayorkas, they all should be tried for treason.”

During an October 18 interview with Lake, Root pushed a conspiracy theory “that the Democrat Party's being funded by China and the Mexican drug cartel because they do so many favors for them,” such as drug and human trafficking.

He then said of Gallego: “Your opponent, his dad, is a convicted member of the Mexican drug cartel, drug dealing syndicate. So, I mean, it's pretty obvious to me where they get their money from, Kari. This is not clean money. This is dirty money in small amounts, they keep it under the radar.”

Lake replied: “Yep, absolutely. The cartels are in operational control here in Arizona.”

KARI LAKE: It's a tight race, though, because my opponent, as you mentioned, has spent about $100 million in his money and his friends' money attacking me and then painting him in a false light where he's absolutely not what he says he is. You wouldn't believe how much they've lied about this guy's background. I mean, his whole story is a lie, just like they've lied about Kamala’s background. Yeah, you know, he said he lived in a one room apartment and slept on the floor when, in fact, he actually lived in a kind of a nice suburb in a middle class home. And he didn't sleep on the floor. He said, you know, that his dad dabbled in drug dealing. Well, turns out his dad was a convicted felon, Mexican drug trafficker, really much more high up on the cartel food chain.

And so it makes you wonder why he's been voting to empower the cartels with his open border votes. It really does make you wonder, especially as we're watching the cartels smuggle drugs in — fentanyl is pouring in through Arizona, killing hundreds of thousands of people every year. We're looking as these drug and narco terrorists smuggle human beings and traffick children. And he has supported that every step of the way, and it's starting to make more sense when you find out about his background.

WAYNE ALLYN ROOT: You know, I talk about it all the time on my show. I'm a businessman and I always give 10% finder's fees to anyone who brings me a deal, right? Sometimes even 15%. I just got a giant deal yesterday and somebody asked for 20 and I said, I'm going to give 15. And we argued and we settled on 15.

My point is, I believe that the Democrat Party's being funded by China and the Mexican drug cartel because they do so many favors for them. They leave the border open. That's how the fentanyl gets in, that's how the sex trafficking, that's how the human trafficking. Everything they do helps China, helps Iran, and helps the Mexican drug cartel. So that's why the money is flowing to Democrats, and now you've got a new low in Arizona.

Your opponent, his dad, is a convicted member of the Mexican drug cartel, drug dealing syndicate. So, I mean, it's pretty obvious to me where they get their money from, Kari. This is not clean money. This is dirty money in small amounts, they keep it under the radar.

LAKE: Yep, absolutely. The cartels are in operational control here in Arizona, and it's really frightening.

Root promoted his interview with Lake by writing: “Watch my TV interview with Kari Lake, the next US Senator from Arizona...if it's not rigged & stolen from her AGAIN.” (Lake is an election denier who has falsely claimed to be the “lawful governor” of Arizona.)

Media Matters has documented that Lake, who has also been a right-wing commentator, has relied on conspiracy theorists and extremists for political support.

10 24 ODD NO TALK?

Wayne Allyn Root (born July 20, 1961)[1][2] is an American conservative television and radio host, author, activist, conservative political commentator and conspiracy theorist.[3][4] He is the host of three television shows: "The ROOT Reaction" nightly at 10 PM ET on Real America's Voice TV...and at 7 PM ET on Lindell TV network (FrankSpeech.com)...and Saturdays at Noon ET "America's Top Ten Countdown with Wayne Allyn Root" on Real America's Voice TV.

He is also the radio host of "Wayne Allyn Root: Raw & Unfiltered" on AM 670 in Las Vegas and nationally-syndicated on the USA Radio Network, and formerly on Newsmax TV.[5] Root was an opinion columnist for the Las Vegas Review-Journal.[6] His newspaper columns are currently nationally syndicated on Sundays by Creators Syndicate.

Root was the vice presidential nominee for the Libertarian Party in the 2008 presidential election. In 2012, he left the Libertarian Party, rejoined the Republican Party, and endorsed and voted for Mitt Romney and Donald Trump in 2016 and 2020. He has remained a staunch supporter of Trump.

Root is the CEO of the publicly traded penny stock company VegasWinners.com, (WNRS symbol) who recently partnered with the MGM Hotel's BetMGM.[7]^

Early life and education

Root attended the Thornton-Donovan School in New Rochelle, New York[8] and was a member of the class of 1983 at Columbia University, studying pre-law and political science.

In June 2016, Root described himself as a "Jew turned Evangelical Christian".[9] As of November 2016, Root described himself as Jewish, and says he considers Donald Trump to be the first Jewish president, in the same sense that Bill Clinton was often called the "first black president".[10]^

Career

Root worked for WNBC radio (now WFAN) in the early 1980s. From 1989 to 1991, he worked with the Financial News Network before its subsumption into CNBC.

Root was founder and chairman of Winning Edge International Inc.[11] In the 2000s, he hosted Wayne Allyn Root's Winning Edge, a television show which promoted Root's sports handicapping operation.

Root co-hosted King of Vegas on Spike TV. He produced Ghost Adventures on the Travel Channel.[12]^

Politics

Root had been a longtime Republican Party member and supporter who self-identified as a Libertarian Republican. He ran for a seat on the Westchester County Board of Legislators in 1983. In 2007, Root ended his association with the Republican Party and joined the Libertarian Party.[13] Root's book outlining his libertarian views, The Conscience of a Libertarian, was published in 2009.[13]^

2008 presidential campaign

On May 4, 2007, Root declared his candidacy for the Libertarian Party's 2008 presidential nomination. On May 25, 2008, Root advanced to the fifth ballot of the Libertarian Party presidential nomination vote at the 2008 Libertarian National Convention before being eliminated and endorsing Bob Barr, who became the party's presidential nominee. Root then became the Libertarian Party vice presidential nominee, securing the nod in the third round of voting for that nomination.[14]^

Though in the same graduating class as Barack Obama at Columbia University, Root has stated on a number of occasions that he has no recollection of having met or seen Obama at Columbia.[8][15] He has claimed that this alleged lack of eyewitnesses to Obama's presence at Columbia is highly "suspicious" and should be "a cause for great concern."[16]^

In 2010, Root ran for the position of chair of the Libertarian National Committee of the Libertarian Party. He was defeated by Mark Hinkle by a vote of 228–281 in the third round. He subsequently succeeded in being elected to the Libertarian National Committee as an at-large member.[17] At the 2012 Libertarian National Convention, Root again was elected to the Libertarian National Committee as an At-Large Member, despite being seen by some LP members as being part of the "top-down faction."[18] The party's 2012 presidential candidate and former Republican New Mexico Governor Gary Johnson endorsed Root.[19]^

Return to the Republican Party

In September 2012, Root resigned all Libertarian Party positions, re-joined the Republican Party and endorsed Mitt Romney in the 2012 presidential election.[20][21] He predicted Romney would win the election against incumbent president Barack Obama, citing, among other factors, that the "Enthusiasm Factor" for Romney was "huge".[22]^

Root had announced that he intended to run as a Republican candidate for the U.S. Senate in Nevada in 2016, for the seat held by retiring Democratic Senator Harry Reid.[21][23] However, he did not run. He supported and voted for Republican nominee Donald Trump in the 2016 presidential election[24] and 2020 presidential election.

Root was the opening speaker for Trump's rally in Las Vegas in late October 2016 during the presidential campaign. At the rally, Root, suggested that he wished ill upon Hillary Clinton and Huma Abedin, hoping they met the same ending as Thelma & Louise.[3] The lead characters in the film take their own lives by driving off a cliff. In his speech, Root said "Trump warriors" armed with "pitchforks, jack hammers and blow torches" would violently take over Washington D.C.: "We're coming to tear it down. We're coming to rip it up. We're coming to kick your ass. And we're coming to put you in prison", he said referring to a fantasy he had about Clinton and Abedin. Kellyanne Conway, Trump's campaign manager, later told CNN that Root's "conduct is completely unacceptable and does not reflect our campaign or our candidate".[25]^

In August 2019, Root praised President Trump. Following Trump's assertion that Jews voting for the Democrats show "either a total lack of knowledge or great disloyalty", a comment which was rejected by his critics who said he was following an antisemitic canard, Root countered the claim.[26] Root said that "Trump is the greatest President for Jews and for Israel in the history of the world, not just America, he is the best President for Israel in the history of the world...and the Jewish people in Israel love him like he's the King of Israel. They love him like he is the second coming of God." Later, President Donald Trump thanked Root on Twitter for "the very nice words" and shared what was said about him.[27][28]^

In October 2019, while speaking at a pro-Trump conference in Miami, Florida at the Trump National Doral Miami, Root reportedly boasted about a time in his childhood when, as one of the few white students at a predominantly black high school, he knocked one classmate unconscious and shattered another kid's teeth. "My buddies and I were high-fiving and laughing," Root reportedly said during his speech. "Man, it was funny." He reportedly went on to say that "you've got to be a natural-born killer" to win in politics.[29]^

Criticism and controversies

Promotion of conspiracy theories and falsehoods

Root is known for spreading conspiracy theories[3][4][30] and false information.[31]^

Root was a leading proponent of the conspiracy theory that President Barack Obama was not born in the United States.[32] Root falsely claimed that Obama was not a student at Columbia University.[4] He later stated in a 2012 interview with Sean Hannity that he believed Obama was a "foreign exchange student" there.[30] He has repeatedly described Obama as a "Marxist, anti-American, anti-Israel, globalist, middle class-hating, Muslim sympathizer".[30] In 2017, he claimed that Obama was gay, called him "Bathhouse Barry" and said that he had info from Obama's "friends in Chicago" about his "sordid past".[30] In 2014, he described Obama as a "Manchurian candidate", possibly hired by the Bilderberg Group to destroy the United States and "kill all of us".[30]^

Root promoted conspiracy theories around the murder of Seth Rich, and at various times suggested that Debbie Wasserman Schultz, Hillary Clinton, Donna Brazile, Bill Clinton, Eric Schneiderman and John Podesta were involved in the murder.[30]^

During the white supremacist Unite the Right rally, Root falsely claimed that blaming white supremacist James Alex Fields Jr. for killing Heather Heyer was "such B.S. Probably paid actors & infiltrators hired by Soros. No conservative I've ever met commits violence. EVER."[30]^

On the night of the 2017 Las Vegas shooting, in which 58 people were shot and killed by Stephen Paddock (including himself) and 2 of them shot by Paddock later died of their injuries in 2019 and 2020 respectively, Root tweeted: "Clearly coordinated Muslim terror attack." Police later determined only one shooter—a non-religious American—was involved.[31][33][34]^

In 2018, Root argued that Special Counsel Robert Mueller's investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election is motivated by "penis envy", because "Mueller's is smaller than Trump's."[30]^

On February 6, 2021, Twitter permanently suspended Root's account for "violating Twitter rules".[35]^

In July 2022, Root debated journalist Isaac Saul at Freedom Fest in Las Vegas, arguing that the 2020 United States Presidential Election was stolen and that Donald Trump should run for president again in 2024. During the debate, Root promoted, among other ideas, that COVID-19 vaccine injuries were being concealed by the government;

that millions of illegal immigrants were voting in US elections and tipping them in favor of Democrats; that multiple states coordinated to stop counting on election night 2020 until more illegitimate ballots could be found to favor the election of Democrat Joe Biden; and that Las Vegas Culinary Union tactics are the only reason Democrats win elections in Nevada, which he believes to be otherwise almost entirely Republican.[36]^

Legal problems

On March 19–21, 2020, Chief Health Care Bureau Lisa Landau and New York Attorney General Letitia James ordered Root to stop advertising My Doctor Suggests, LLC on KBET and USA Radio Network citing violations of state laws on deceptive acts and practices.[37][38]^

On April 29, 2020, Gordon Pedersen of My Doctor Suggests LLC and GP Silver LLC was ordered by the United States Department of Justice (DOJ) under the Trump administration to permanently stop advertising and selling all of these products out there.[39] A hearing on the government's request for a preliminary injunction was set for May 12, 2020. The products were discontinued and the website was permanently shut down as a result.

AN 190 24

Donald Trump has just canceled a scheduled interview with CNBC’s Joe Kernen, who has been described as “pro-Trump.”

The cancellation comes as many are watching video and reading reports about Trump’s Monday night town hall in Pennsylvania, during which the Republican presidential nominee, three weeks before Election Day, took just a handful of questions. Then, after two audience medical issues, he turned the night into a music event as he stood and swayed on stage listening to his favorite hits.

Trump “abruptly canceled an interview on his economic plans with business channel CNBC, one of its anchors announced Tuesday,” The Daily Beast reports. “Joe Kernen, the conservative-leaning host of its flagship show Squawk Box, revealed the move during an interview with Charles Phillips, the Oracle chairman who is supporting Vice President Kamala Harris, saying ‘Trump canceled.’ The interview had not previously been announced by either side. Sources told the Daily Beast that the network had invited Trump to an in-studio sit-down on Squawk Box to take place later this week and that his campaign had initially accepted.”

The move comes after Trump pulled out of an agreed-upon “60 Minutes” interview, and one day before Vice President Kamala Harris, his Democratic presidential opponent, will sit down for an interview with Fox News.

“The cancelation continues Trump’s policy of avoiding mainstream television interviews,” The Daily Beast adds. “Instead he has been interviewed repeatedly by friendly Fox News hosts including Maria Bartiromo, and appeared with podcasters including comedian Andrew Schultz. His public schedule said he would be interviewed Tuesday by Bloomberg before an address to the Economic Club of Chicago.”

The Bulwark reports since Trump’s only debate with Vice President Kamala Harris, he isn’t giving interviews to the mainstream media.

“In recent weeks, Trump has almost exclusively decamped to outlets that are already in his tank. Since the September 10 presidential debate, with the exceptions of a Las Vegas ABC affiliate and a quick NewsNation hit, nearly all of Trump’s 14 one-one interviews have been with interviewers ranging from friendly to sycophantic:

“Fox News hosts Maria Bartiromo, Laura Ingraham, Brian Kilmeade, Sean Hannity, and Greg Gutfield.

Chris Salcedo, Carl Higbie, and Rob Schmitt of NewsMax.

Sinclair’s Sharyl Attkisson.

Conservative radio host Dave Ramsey.

Wayne Allyn Root of Real America’s Voice.

Andrew Schultz and Akaash Singh of the comedy podcast Flagrant.

Over the same period, he’s totally eschewed tentpole mainstream outlets—making a point of skipping, for instance, the traditional interview with CBS’s 60 Minutes.”

“Trump still talks with the press and takes questions at events, including (likely) today when Bloomberg News is hosting his speech at the Chicago Economic Club. But when it comes to one-on-one interviews, he’s never been more cloistered within his MAGA media bubble.”

Overnight, Trump lashed out at Harris in a series of social media posts, defending his mental health.

“I’ve put out more Medical Exams than any other President in History, and aced two Cognitive Exams (the Doctor stated that my “cognitive exams were exceptional!”). I am far healthier than Clinton, Bush, Obama, Biden, but especially, Kamala,” Trump alleged. “Also, I am far too busy campaigning to take time, from the 22 days left, as I am using every hour, of every day, campaigning, because we have to take back our Country from the Radical Left people that are destroying it.”

Lara and Eric Trump-backed “prophet” claims God told her the hurricanes were “man-made” and “they” will also “set off” an earthquake

Written by Eric Hananoki

Published 10/11/24 mma

“Prophet” Julie Green told followers that the Lord told her that the recent hurricanes were “all man-made” and that the weather events were deliberately created or manipulated as a form of “election interference.” She added that “they” will “set off” an earthquake at some point.

Green isn’t a random grifter: She’s connected to Trump’s inner circle and has been heavily endorsed by Eric Trump. The former president’s son told Green that she’s “so incredible,” stated that he’s saved one of her messages, called her a “warrior,” and thanked her for their “friendship.”

Green has also spoken with Republican National Committee co-Chair Lara Trump, who told Green that she was “so honored” to be on her podcast. She also said: “On behalf of our whole family, thank you for all of the prayers, thank you for believing in my father-in-law, and for fighting alongside of us.”

During a recent podcast appearance, Green — as she does — pushed far-right conspiracy theories while telling people what “the Lord had talked about” regarding the country, including that the Lord supposedly said that the recent hurricanes were “deliberate,” “man-made,” and “another form of election interference”:

Video

CitationFrom the October 9, 2024, edition of His Glory TV's Take Five

JULIE GREEN: This is exactly one of the things that the Lord had talked about. I have to get out which prophecy it was. I think it was the one from yesterday or Monday. He was talking about how this is the same thing as Maui. This is all on purpose. This is all done for complete devastation. And one of the things that He actually had on there and I have to — I'll look it up, of which one it was because I have several of them pulled up here again.

But He said it was blatant. It was deliberate. What happened in Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, and those really hard areas, those areas were hit for a specific reason. And again, this is all man-made. All of the stuff, we know they can modify weather, and they're doing this on purpose. This is another form — and I hate to say this, but it's so true. This is what the Lord was saying. It's another form of election interference. This is another form to weaken people, to destroy people more, it’s more to get us to the point where we are so broken spiritually, physically, financially that we will not fight them back. This is another tactic and a strategy of war.

Green then said that California would soon experience an earthquake so “they” can “bury us financially and get ourselves over burdened and way down and so broken and devastated that we will just accept anything they do from here on out.”

JULIE GREEN: California, the Lord had given me prophetic word, and it's an earthquake — is what my understanding is, that He said something will be “set off.” It doesn't say it's going to “go off.” He said it will be “set off.” So if they can make hurricanes, they can also set off, well, an earthquake. So this is something that we're — and I don't know where all the hurricanes are at. It's not really surprising me that they are doing this because God said it was going to be the darkest before the dawning, and people — I don't think they realize what all that entails.

That also means all this historic, unprecedented hurricanes, these storms or whatever, and that is to bury us financially and get ourselves over burdened and way down and so broken and devastated that we will just accept anything they do from here on out. Or they can put us in like an emergency state where, “Oh, well, I'm sorry. Right now there's so many things going on. We just cannot hold elections.”

Numerous Trump allies have promoted the conspiracy theory that Hurricane Helene may have been controlled or manipulated, including Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA), Georgia GOP official Kandiss Taylor, Veterans for America First official Lucretia Hughes, Trump event organizer Clay Clark, and commentator Wayne Allyn Root.

And two other pro-MAGA “prophets,” Lance Wallnau and Hank Kunneman, similarly suggested that God said the hurricanes were unnatural and election interference.

STEVE DEACE (HOST): Which one of your books would Pfizer and Moderna land in?

WAYNE ALLYN ROOT (GUEST): Pfizer -- you know, here's the interesting thing. When I wrote this book, I didn't want to get banned by Amazon or anyone else so I kind of hid my real beliefs inside the book. It sounds like it's just a boycott book, great patriotic companies, but about half the book are my opinions of what's happening in America and then the other half, the other half of the book, the back half are all the companies with a full page on each company, the products they sell, and why I rated them as conservative.

But the first half of the book, Steve, is what I believe is happening to America. A communist takeover of the United States. Not socialist, not progressive, communist takeover, and I tell you why. Rigged elections and I tell you why. I absolutely believe in every cell in my body -- and I'm a pretty smart guy. I'm no dummy and I don't wear antennas on my head -- I'm telling you, elections are being stolen, not just the 2020 election. Kari Lake was just stolen. I think that Adam Laxalt in Nevada for U.S. Senate was just stolen. There's a lot of stolen elections. Our country's rigged.

And then I've got an entire third of the book about the COVID vaccine and how dangerous and deadly it is and the lies and propaganda that have been told to fool you. This book is about the COVID vaccine being dangerous and deadly, but you don't know it until you open the book. I sneak it in. So, I think I did it in a way that, you know, nobody will say, oh, let's censor the book, because it doesn't look like it's about the COVID vaccine, but it is.

OAN reporter: The survival of our country depends on COVID-19 vaccines killing liberals

https://www.mediamatters.org/one-america-news-network/oan-reporter-survival-our-country-depends-covid-19-vaccines-killing

vid?

SHARP (REPORTER): More and more Americans are standing up and fighting back against thetyranny of the COVID conspiracy theory. Convoys of outraged truck drivers are sending a message loud and clear to cowardly leaders all over the world, from Canada to Australia and even here in the U.S., and that message is simple: Back off, or else. We, the people, will not tolerate this oppression any longer.

We have had enough. Enough of watching our businesses get destroyed, while hypocritical politicians like Gavin Newsom dine out at fancy restaurants with their friends during lockdowns, [NOT BORIS?] or go maskless to public events they demand that we wear masks to. We've had enough of watching our loved ones get sick and die pointless deaths, all because the media and despots in Washington refused to let us treat our sick with the safest and most effective drugs in the world, like ivermectin. We've had enough of being denied basic services,[LIKE HAPPY HOUR?]  like being refused entry into a grocery store or restaurant,or being refused a life-saving organ transplant unless we have a dehumanizing passport proving we're dumb enough to sign over the rights to our own bodies to these murderous tyrants. Enough of seeing our children die after being forced to take this same poisonous drug that's making Big Pharma companies like Pfizer and Moderna over $100 billion a year. Enough is enough.

They can try to cover up their crimes. But the evidence is mounting, and they can't hide it forever. The story that this is a pandemic of the unvaccinated is laughable. How do they explain the hundreds of fully vaccinated cruise ships coming down with the Fauci flu? Israel is one of the most vaccinated countries in the world, and right now nearly 1% of their entire population is coming down with the China virus every single day. Think about that. Really let that number sink in: 1% of the entire country gets sick with this engineered virus, every day. And they're all fully vaccinated.

Wayne Allyn Root over on Townhall put together a great article on this, demonstrating how the German government claimed up to 90% of the infected and dead are unvaccinated. But that was a flat-out lie, because it turns out the German government was actually classifying every sick and dying person as unvaccinated, regardless of whether they were or not. Same goes for Canada, where they claimed 60% of the COVID deaths were unvaccinated. But that was a lie, too, because in reality, they just classified anyone who got sick or died within two weeks of getting the vaccine as unvaccinated.

And surprise, surprise, our own beloved CDC -- the Centers for Democrat Control -- pulled the same trick on us. The CDC claimed that anyone who died within 14 days of getting injected wasn't vaccinated. Even though the majority of the deaths and injuries from the vaccine happened within that first 14-day period. Good way to cover up all the people they're murdering, just say they're not vaccinated. Sneaky, sneaky.

Daniel Nagase, a Canadian doctor for over 15 years who was fired after saving the lives of three patients with ivermectin, says this is just the tip of the iceberg. Nagase said looking at Pfizer's own clinical trial data, the number of deaths and injuries from the vaccine are staggering. According to their data, fully 31% of the people who got the vaccine either died or had permanent disabilities.

Even more shocking is what's happening in the military. Since the armed forces rolled out the vaccine, in one year cancer rates are up 300% among military members. But that's not all. Infertility is skyrocketing as well, up 500% in women, along with miscarriages, which are up another 300%. But those numbers pale in comparison to the rates of clinically diagnosed neurological disorders, which went up an astronomical 1,000% from 82,000 to nearly 900,000. And that happened in one year since the vaccines were introduced. Just think about what that's doing to America's ability to defend itself. Our young warriors crippled by their own government. And we still insist on giving this experimental drug to our children.

Even research published in theToxicology Reports Journal, one of the most well-respected medical journals anywhere, found that children have almost no risk from COVID, but suffer severe consequences from what the researchers themselves called toxic inoculations, including paralysis, heart attacks and even death. The study found the spike proteins from the injections cause permanent damage in children's critical organs, including their brains, nervous and reproductive systems. After being ordered by a judge in December, Pfizer released its own data, which showed that out of 32 known pregnant women who received the vaccine, 28 women experienced fetal death and lost their babies. This is tantamount to child sacrifice on the altar of Big Pharma.

Young athletesare another prime group to be targeted by this deadly vaccine with 500% more soccer players in the E.U. dropping dead from heart attacks than one year ago -- 500%. Who is actually braindead enough to think that this is just a coincidence, when Pfizer and Moderna's vaccine are known by the FDA to cause heart attacks. This is a pandemic of the ignorant, and it's killing our country.

So, for all of you progressives and Democrats and radical leftists out there. Do us all a favor, please, and go get vaccinated. In fact, don't stop there. Get double vaccinated, and be sure toget all your boosters. All three or four of them. Why stop there? If more is better--- get five, six, get 10 boosters. All the rest of us sane, freedom-loving Americans are counting on you to get your injections. The survival of our country depends on it.

A year after January 6, One America News has found its insurrectionist footing

OAN spent the last year promoting GOP voter suppression efforts, selling airtime to a demented pillow maven, and priming its audience for political violence -- perhaps even civil war

WRITTEN BY BOBBY LEWIS

RESEARCH CONTRIBUTIONS FROM BEATRICE MOUNT

The January 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol by supporters of former President Donald Trump was a watershed moment for conservative media. The “peaceful transition of power” that has long been a force in the mythologization of American democracy broke down that day, and rather than owning up to the gravity of a violent attack on that tradition, One America News Network stuck to its familiar playbook of lies and deceit – this time in service of increasing voter suppression.

A survey performed inSeptember 2021 found that 68% of Republicans wrongly believed that the 2020 election was stolen from Trump. Among Republicans who primarily trust far-right outlets like OAN, 97% believed the election was stolen. This correlation is no coincidence, and right-wing media’s continued lies about the 2020 election have provided fuel for nationwide voter suppression efforts by the GOP. In the wake of the Capitol attack, OAN became an important part of the conservative media campaign pushing a whopping 440 bills in state legislatures in 2021 that attempted to restrict voting access.

Voter suppression is nothing new for the conservative movement, but OAN used the aftermath of January 6 to double down on election lies and promote efforts to make voting more difficult for its fellow Americans – while priming its right-wing audience for a potential civil war.

OAN helped drive a frenzy for fraudulent election audits

OAN correspondent Christina Bobb disputed the 2020 election results before a winner was even declared, a moment which was a harbinger for her coverage in 2021. Fueled by a passionate embrace of the Big Lie that the election had been stolen, Bobb essentially became a salesperson for election audits in any state that would entertain the idea.

Bobb provided documents and testimony to get the Arizona audit in motion, and founded a nonprofit to raise money for the audit. Her group Voices & Votes raised $605,000 for the Arizona audit, or about 10% of its cost, undoubtedly in part because of Bobb’s frequent fundraising during her audit coverage on OAN.

The amateurish operation in Arizona appears to be the playbook for other so-called “audits” going forward, even though it confirmed both President Joe Biden’s victory in the state and the oft-asserted fact that there was no significant fraud. But that didn’t stop Bobb or other audit extremists.

Bobb has been concentrating her efforts to spread audits to Pennsylvania, Georgia, Wisconsin, and Michigan, counting on friendly GOP legislatures to indulge in the Big Lie. Some states, like Pennsylvania and Wisconsin, are making moves toward their own audits. In Texas, which Trump won handily, preliminary results of an audit have once again confirmed earlier counts.

Besides its own correspondent, OAN has helped create a second star of the right-wing election fraud movement. MyPillow CEO Mike Lindell was already known before the 2020 election to be a prolific, unhinged Trump supporter, but Lindell’s delusions turned into an erratic fusillade of election lies, and -- unprecedented in television news -- the wealthy pillow CEO acquired vast swaths of OAN airtime in 2021 to zealously push his own false claims and conspiracy theories.

OAN repeatedly aired at least three different Lindell “documentaries” alleging to unravel the conspiratorial web behind the 2020 election. Additionally, OAN ran ads for Lindell’s three-day “cyber symposium” over 150 times in a single week, before devoting more than 30 hours of live coverage to his erratic event. Just before Lindell's symposium began, OAN was sued by Dominion Voting Systems for defamation over spreading other election lies; later the network was hit with another defamation suit from voting technology company Smartmatic.

OAN followed the symposium and defamation suit by letting Lindell take over its evening programming on at least three occasions. In his “The Lindell Report” the businessman aired even more potentially defamatory election lies.

OAN backed voter suppression attempts nationwide

Pursuant to its whole-of-network embrace of the Big Lie, OAN gave friendly coverage to or expressed outright support of several voter suppression efforts in states all over the country.

OAN’s prime-time shows became important stops for Texas state legislators to promote Senate Bill 7, which “includes provisions to limit early voting hours, curtail local voting options and further tighten voting by mail.” On June 1, OAN’s Natalie Harp hosted GOP state Rep. Kyle Biedermann to raise concerns about “a lot of things going on against the laws” in 2020, like “drive-thru voting” and “ballots that were mailed out that shouldn’t have been mailed out.” OAN’s Dan Ball hosted state Sen. Bob Hall, who claimed that SB 7 would guard against what he called “soft fraud” by “election officials taking advantage of rules to bend them as much as they could in their favor.” According to Media Matters’ data, since December 2020, eight Texas state legislators have made at least 23 appearances on OAN prime time, many of them clustered around the SB 7 debate.

The Georgia omnibus election bill was another focal point of OAN programming, particularly since the network is also interested in fomenting an election audit in Georgia. In ostensible news segments, OAN reports called Senate Bill 202 a “voting rights bill” that is “securing integrity for future elections,” and literally laughed at the notion that anyone would take issue with these “common-sense changes.” The Justice Department filed suit against Georgia over a long list of “racially discriminatory” provisions in the law, including “the prohibition on efforts by churches and civic groups to provide food or water to persons waiting in long lines to vote.”

OAN frequently turns to one guest in particular for Georgia political commentary: former state representative and current gubernatorial candidate Vernon Jones. According to Media Matters' data, Jones has made at least 26 appearances on OAN prime time since December 2020 -- often dedicated to promoting his campaign for governor while pushing election lies and audit attempts.

OAN primed its audience for more political violence

On June 23, correspondent Pearson Sharp drew widespread condemnation for an OAN segment suggesting mass executions of Democrats for supposedly stealing the election from Trump.

:{:{}:

}:

Declaring the 2020 election was actually “overthrown,” Sharp told his audience: “Any American involved in these efforts, from those who ran the voting machines to the very highest government officials, is guilty of treason under U.S. Code. 2381, which carries with it the penalty of death.”

:{:{}:

}:

Despite the unmistakable clarity of Sharp’s words, he told Talking Points Memo, “Neither I, nor OAN, are suggesting anyone should be executed,” but added, “That is for the appropriate law enforcement agencies to determine.”

:{:{}:

}:

Sharp’s midsummer bloodlust wasn’t much of an aberration for One America News Network. OAN guests have casually gamed out civil war scenarios on-air, and the network has aired reports accusing “retired Democrat generals” of spreading civil war allegations against Republicans, while falsely claiming “evidence indicates that it is actually the left that is at war.”

Though she did not directly suggest violence, Bobb brought in the new year by strongly denouncing the Biden administration as “fascist” and “illegitimate,” in part for having “faked an insurrection on the Capitol” and stealing the 2020 election. For a conservative steeped in Second Amendment mythology about “the tree of liberty” and “the blood of tyrants,” the dots don’t need to be connected.

Wayne Allyn Root, a radio host and far-right conspiracy theorist, appeared on OAN in December and denounced Biden’s “communist dictatorship” for stealing both the 2020 election and Georgia’s two U.S. Senate seats, giving Democrats their current tie-breaking Senate majority “destroying this country.” Root accused Democrats of “looking for a civil war,” which he claimed conservatives like him do not want -- but later in the same rant, Root said that the oppression of conservatives by the Democratic Party “is a lot worse” than the conditions that merited the American Revolution.

:{:{}:

}:

“The worst is yet to come,” Root warned.

OAN is headed into 2022 with more of the same lies, and little care for any negative consequences

From OAN’s perspective, 2021 was a good year for “election integrity.” OAN’s Bobb fought for and secured an Arizona election audit, and successfully spun the mundane results into enough fuel to keep pushing for more audits. OAN collected viewers and money from airing MyPillow’s Lindell, even if it did help get the network sued for defamation. Several of the voter suppression initiatives OAN supported became law. OAN’s suggestions of political violence have retained a veneer of plausible deniability while priming the audience with fury and fear to keep pushing for more voter suppression.

Reckless, false commentary about stolen elections and calls for punishing enemies are how we got Trump supporters invading the Capitol, menacing members of Congress, and chanting to execute Trump’s vice president one year ago. But it’s all just good business for OAN.

no vid/pix

A film featuring a known anti-vaxxer pushing conspiracy theories and false claims about the novel coronavirus, including attacking vaccines, has racked up more than 9 million views on YouTube. Additionally, the video and its reuploads have tallied more than 16 million Facebook engagements. The spread of the film -- called “Plandemic” -- through reuploads on YouTube shows the platform’s continuing issues with enforcing its policies against coronavirus misinformation during this public health crisis.

In March, as the disease spread throughout the United States, YouTube wrote that it had “worked to prevent misinformation associated with the spread of the virus” and would “quickly remove videos that violate our policies when they are flagged, including those that discourage people from seeking medical treatment or claim harmful substances have health benefits.”

Yet despite that promise -- and despite YouTube’s attempts to take the video down for violating its policies -- “Plandemic” has gone viral on the platform, and has been going viral on Facebook and even trending on Twitter. In the video, a filmmaker named Mikki Willis interviews Dr. Judy Mikovits, a former chronic fatigue researcher whose claims have been retracted by a scientific journal and who was arrested for “allegedly stealing equipment belonging to the Institute that fired her.”

Mikovits has since become popular in anti-vaxx circles -- she attended a recent major anti-vaxx summit -- and has also become involved in efforts to have Dr. Anthony Fauci fired as the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases and a leading member of the White House Coronavirus Task Force (she relitigated her claims against him, which he has denied, in the film).

The film makes multiple false and misleading claims about the coronavirus and public health. Mikovits argues that mandatory coronavirus vaccines will “kill millions as they already have with their vaccines,” and that “flu vaccines increase the odds by 36% of getting COVID-19” and are part of a plot against what Willis calls “natural remedies” for the virus. Mikovits also asserts that it’s “insanity” to close beaches because somehow the sand and “healing microbes in the ocean” will actually help treat the virus. She also touts anti-malarial drug hydroxychloroquine as a treatment for the virus, despite multiple studies casting doubt on its use, and she and the film push the false claim that the death count from COVID-19 is being inflated. To push that claim the film includes footage of two California doctors pushing the claim in a video that YouTube has already removed for violating the platform’s rules. The film also falsely suggests that wearing a mask could be harmful.

A review by Media Matters found dozens of reuploads of the film in addition to Willis’ original upload on May 4 (including one from a major supporter of the QAnon conspiracy theory), resulting in more than 9 million views combined (which includes videos still up and those since taken down). The high view count was achieved despite YouTube continuing to take down reuploads of the video for violating its Community Guidelines. Some of the reuploads have received hundreds of thousands of views on their own....

Much of the video’s YouTube virality is likely thanks to Facebook, where Media Matters’ review also found the videos receiving more than 16 million Facebook engagements (Facebook on May 7 announced that it would ban shares of the film). Some of the uploads of the video have received millions of Facebook engagements on their own. Many of the engagements have come from Facebook groups, including anti-vaxx groups, groups demanding an end to stay-at-home orders, and groups promoting the QAnon conspiracy theory.

...

The film has also spread on Instagram, which is owned by Facebook.

The videos also received tens of thousands of shares on Twitter (where the platform has blocked some hashtags promoting the film), including from Newsmax host and **coronavirus grifter Wayne Allyn Root**; Darla Shine, the wife of former Fox News executive Bill Shine, who is working on President Donald Trump’s reelection campaign; and some widely followed QAnon accounts.

...The video’s spread is just the latest instance in YouTube’s serious struggle to contain coronavirus misinformation on its platform -- including reuploads -- a problem that continues to be compoundedby its spread on Facebook.

Grift watch: How right-wing media are trying to profit off a pandemic

We've talked about how right-wing media are trying to downplay the pandemic. Even worse are those that are trying to profit off of it.

  • Trump ally, Newsmax TV host, and Las Vegas Review-Journal columnist Wayne Allyn Root has been dangerously suggesting that if people contract the novel coronavirus, they should take doses of an “alkaline structured silver” product he endorses because it supposedly “kills [the] virus” and can “save your life.”
  • After he said that, the Las Vegas Review-Journal told Media Matters that they were parting ways with Root, and that this was a factor.
  • The New York State Office of the Attorney General has told Root “to immediately cease and desist from making misleading claims,” in reference to his comments on silver. Newsmax airs in 70 million homes, and currently airs a show featuring disgraced former White House spokesperson Sean Spicer. Newsmax is also owned by a close Trump ally.
  • The Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) has also called on Newsmax to stop pushing a false advertisement from Monetary Gold which claims that banks can seize people's accounts. Townhall has run the same ad.
  • National Enquirer pushed a dangerous lie that “coronavirus cures” have been “found” and are “at your fingertips!" We spoke with a doctor who was cited in the piece: It turns out that he never spoke with the publication and demanded a retraction. A spokesperson for the National Enquirer told us that “a correction clarifying that there was an error in what was attributed to the doctor will appear in a future issue in the next couple of weeks.”

week, President Trump promoted right-wing conspiracy theorist Wayne Allyn Root’s claim that American Jews should be more appreciative of the president because Trump is “the greatest president for Jews and for Israel in the history of the world."

Trump was widely condemned for his Tuesday claim that because some Democratic members of Congress have suggested cutting off aid to Israel and used anti-Semitic tropes, “Jewish people that vote for a Democrat” may be showing “great disloyalty.” His claim echoed a longstanding and blood-soaked anti-Semitic trope that Jews practice “dual loyalty” to their home countries and to the Jewish people.

Trump doubled down on Wednesday morning, tweeting a lengthy quote from Newsmax TV host Wayne Allyn Root about the disparity between support for Trump among Israeli and American Jews. According to Root, who identifiesas a “Jew turned evangelical Christian,” Jewish people in Israel love Trump “like he’s the King of Israel” or “the second coming of God.”

Trump then thanked Root “for the very nice words” and tagged the Twitter accounts of Newsmax, the Fox News program Fox & Friends, and the right-wing One America News Network in an apparent suggestion that they should cover the comments.

Root, a longtime conservative columnist and radio host, has promoted a wide range of false conspiracy theories. Root has nonetheless received direct access to Trump and his family, whom he has partied with at the president’s Mar-A-Lago resort.

Newsmax host Wayne Allyn Root, who has had several close contacts and exchanges with Donald Trump in the past, has a long history of making extreme statements and advocating conspiracy theories. On August 21, Trump promoted Root following his claim that American Jews should appreciate Trump more.

Root used the Parkland, FL, school massacre to advocate protecting schools with armed drones.

Root called President Barack Obama “Marxist-in-chief” and said he ran a “gangster government” and “declared war on capitalism.”

Root compared taxation to being robbed at gunpoint.

Root helped push a hoax about a made-up Puerto Rican trucker strike to absolve Trump of blame over the administration’s lackluster response to Hurricane Maria.

Root joined other fake news purveyors in falsely shifting blame for the 2016 election hacking of Democrats to China from Russia.

Root blamed a June 2017 terror attack in London on the U.K. letting in “too many Muslim immigrants.”

Root joined other pro-Trump media figures in smearing singer Ariana Grande after a terror attack killed 22 people at her concert in England.

Root pushed a false smear saying a Democratic presidential candidate had committed sexual assault.

Root pushed an investment scam that was advertised on a Fox News website.

Root likened Obama and Democratic members of Congress to “the druggie who has abandoned his spouse, kids and job to snort crack cocaine 24 hours a day.”

Root fabricated a quote from the sitcom Seinfeld to criticize Obama.

Root promoted a conspiracy theory that Obama blackmailed Chief Justice John Roberts after he reaffirmed the constitutionality of the Affordable Care Act.

Root fantasized in 2011 that if Obama resigned, it would bring back millions of jobs to the U.S. and spur an economic boom.

Root pushed the right-wing conspiracy theory that Democratic National Committee staffer Seth Rich was murdered by high-ranking Democrat officials.

Root was strongly criticized for falsely linking the October 2017 Las Vegas mass shooting to Islamic terrorism and refused to apologized afterward, instead insisting that he heard about the connection from “credible news sources” like far-right conspiratorial website The Gateway Pundit.

Root blamed liberals for the death of former Fox News host Eric Bolling’s son following Bolling’s firing from Fox News for reports of sexual harassment.

When a white nationalist murdered counterprotestor Heather Heyer at a white nationalist rally in Charlottesville, VA, in 2017, Root claimed that the story was “such B.S.” and that the protestors and killer were “probably paid actors & infiltrators hired by Soros. No conservative I’ve ever met commits violence. EVER.”

Root championed Trump’s racist “birther” movement that claimed Obama wasn’t born in America and was therefore an illegitimate president. In 2011, Root tweeted, “Good job Donald Trump. This is going to get interesting. I can produce my birth certificate in 1 minute. I have it in my safe.”

Root said special counsel Robert Mueller was investigating Trump and Russia because he had “penis envy” and declared: “Mueller’s is smaller than Trump’s.”

Root once alleged that both Obama and Hillary Clinton had gay relationships.

Root declared that “most straight men” are afraid of transgender people and likened transgender people to horror film character Freddy Krueger. He also claimed that all liberal men are gay.

Root warned men against dating a liberal woman who has cats because “she’ll cut your pee-pee off, I promise you.”

Root once complained about people calling him old by saying that “there’s no difference in when you call someone ‘old’ versus when you call someone the N-word.”

Root claimed Democrats are “paid off by Mexican drug cartels to oppose” Trump’s proposed border wall. He said that he guarantees “they’re getting paid off by hundreds of millions.”

Root predicted that top-ranking Democrats will be imprisoned over the Trump/Russia investigation, insisting that “the indictments are coming.”

Root said that anyone who voted for Democrats during the 2018 midterms are “either [a] commie or [a] freaking idiot.”

Root said, “The left stole the 2018 midterm elections in so many states around the country.”

Root ranted that philanthropist George Soros needs to be arrested and imprisoned for treason for supposedly funding a caravan of Central American migrants heading toward the U.S.

Root claimed he lost nearly $10 million and blamed it on Obama.

Root pushed a white supremacist conspiracy theory that South Africa is engaging in a murderous apartheid against white people.

http://www.rightwingwatch.org/post/wayne-allyn-root-conservatives-must-hire-special-forces-operatives-who-have-killed-people-to-destroy-the-left/

 Kyle Mantyla | May 26, 2017 11:09 am

Right-wing commentator, conspiracy theorist and Donald Trump–obsessed sycophant Wayne Allyn Root spent a good portion of his radio broadcast yesterday ranting about theneed for conservatives to hire special forces operatives who “have killed people” to destroy liberal groups before “our lives are erased.”

Outraged that WorldNetDaily had its Twitter account temporarily suspended for its incessant promotion of the debunked Seth Rich conspiracy theory, Root fumed that conservatives “are all wussies and they don’t understand that we have to fight back so viciously and we have to boycott every liberal company in this country.”

Any company that advertises on MSNBC or CNN or in the New York Times, Washington Post or on any liberal website must be universally boycotted by every Trump voter in America, Root said, “before we are taken off the airwaves and our lives are erased.”

Reading from a letter he received from a friend, Root claimed that progressive organizations like Right Wing Watch, Media Matters, and the Center for American Progress have massive offices all over the country filled with staff who do nothing but send emails, letters and make phone calls “to sponsors and newspapers and cable and TV networks all over this country and all over this world to try to destroy the right.” Conservatives don’t have a similar operation, Root fumed, because they are “lazy, cheap, wussy, country-club RINO a-holes.”

“We need to hire an attack dog,” Root declared. “We need to hire former CIA or NSA or FBI or Navy Seals that have been involved in counter-insurgency operations all over the world, that have killed people, that understand how to fight; that don’t bring a knife to a gunfight, that bring a gun to a gunfight, preferably a shoulder-fired missile to a gunfight, preferably a nuclear weapon to a gunfight!”

“It is time to go after the left as viciously as they go after us,” Root proclaimed. “These people are mentally insane … and I will tell you right now, they would burn books if they could.”

“They would love to burn the Bible, because we all know they hate God,” he added. “And you know they hate the country.”

http://www.alternet.org/election-2016/trump-ally-urges-revoking-voting-rights-poor-and-certain-women

When Republican presidential nominee Donald J. Trump needs an emcee for a rally in Nevada, he turns tradio personality Wayne Allyn Root, author of the recently published bookAngry White Male: How the Donald Trump Phenomenon is Changing America—and What We Can All Do to Save the Middle Class, who has graced the podium of at least three Trump events in the Battle Born State. On Monday, reports Right Wing Watch, Root called for the disenfranchisement of broad swaths of the electorate, notably anyone on Medicaid, or who receives food assistance through the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), or who gets prescription contraception via the no-copay feature of the Affordable Care Act, aka Obamacare.

As I write this, the Trump campaign had yet to repudiate Root’s proposed unconstitutional rollback of voting rights. Yet the book jacket of Angry White Male features a blurb from the candidate himself, and a foreword by campaign adviser and dirty-trickster Roger Stone, who seems responsible for those elements of Trump campaign messaging drawn from and disseminated in the right’s fever swamps. Stone’s function in the Trump campaign appears to be to facilitate the nominee’s alliances with conspiracy theorists such as 9/11-truther Alex Jones and Root, who complements Trump’s birtherism with a companion false narrative that Obama never attended Columbia University. (Apparently, there is no long-form diploma.) During the 2014 midterm election cycle, Root labeled Obama “a Manchurian candidate” who Root said was seeking to foment a race war.

Now, Root has entered a new phase, deciding who should and shouldn’t be allowed to vote. In an error-filled rant flogging his new Trump book with Virginia radio host Rob Schilling on August 29 (flagged by RWW’s Miranda Blue), Root said of the competition faced by those of his ideological persuasion:“[I]f the people who paid the taxes were the only ones allowed to vote, we’d have landslide victories.” He continued:

"People with conflict of interest shouldn’t be allowed to vote. If you collect welfare, you have no right to vote. The day you get off welfare, you get your voting rights back. The reality is, why are you allowed to have this conflict of interest that you vote for the politician who wants to keep your welfare checks coming and your food stamps and your aid to dependent children and your free health care and your Medicaid, your Medicare and your Social Security and everything else?"

Then Root appeared to catch himself, perhaps realizing that a sizable number of Trump supporters—perhaps as much as one-third—are on Medicare and Social Security. So he “amended” his statement, according to Blue, saying:

"Social Security should not, Medicare should not [disqualify you from voting], because you paid into the system. But all the other stuff, all the other goodies, free Obama phones, free contraception, you know what, you can get them but you shouldn’t be allowed to vote; it’s a conflict of interest. Take that away, we’d win every single election in this country."

The point Root was apparently attempting to make was that anybody on government assistance should not have the right to vote. But even in that noxious formulation, the inclusion of women who obtain prescription contraception via Obamacare without paying a copay would appear to be a special punishment, since the women themselves pay for that prescription via their insurance premiums.

The federal program he appears to reference called Aid to Families with Dependent Children hasn’t existed for 20 years. (The program that replaced it, Temporary Aid to Needy Families, almost never provides direct financial assistance, depending on how individual states administer the program.) Oh, and that “free Obama phone”? No such thing. Never existed.

But in Trump World, facts don’t matter. All that matters is the resentment piled up by a certain portion of the white electorate whose members feel threatened by societal changes such as civil rights law and the empowerment of women. Perhaps presaging his patron’s potential failure at the polls in November, Root is obviously trying to do his part to set the false narrative that, should Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton win in November, it will be because the system was somehow rigged against Trump in favor of the candidate of non-white people (never mind that most people on government assistance are white) and licentious women.

In his book-jacket praise for Root, Trump writes: "Wayne Allyn Root knows how to be tenacious and relentless." But the real riches for Root, aside from the Trump branding he was so generously provided, are in Stone’s foreword, where, in the first sentence the campaign adviser describes Angry White Male as the "Handbook for the Trump Revolution.” Stone goes on:

Now, in Angry White Male, Root provides a manifesto for Donald Trump’s silent majority, and outlines how immigrants and non-Americans flood here by the millions to sign up for America’s generous taxpayer-financed welfare state.

But don’t hold your breath waiting for Trump or his spokespeople to condemn Root or to take any responsibility for the utterances of the author of a book with Trump’s name in the title and Trump’s blurb on the publisher’s praise page. He’s Trump’s Number One fan.
