lois lerner video ambush
Mattera also responds to Bob Beckel's threat towards him.:
but
huffpo
We're not positive, but Bob Beckel may have just lost it.
The Fox News host went off on conservative author Jason Mattera on Wednesday for his attempt to interview former Internal Revenue Service official Lois Lerner. A
released Monday shows Mattera confronting Lerner in her neighborhood while she was walking her dogs, drilling her with questions and even following her up to her neighbors front door.
Some have justified Mattera's invasive approach as justified because he is targeting her just as she targeted the GOP.
Others, like Beckel, were completely outraged. Like, really outraged. Here's what he had to say to Mattera on Wednesday:
"You're twice as young as I am, you're a punk, you're a coward, and my name is Bob Beckel, and I would like you to call me anytime, anyplace, and let's you and I discuss it because you're a coward [...] You pick on people and you deserve to have your [butt] kicked and I want to do it. So get in touch with me."
"Bring a knife, punk," he concluded.
Mattera later responded to Beckel's threat in an email to Mediaite:
“Bob Beckel issued a challenge on television to meet me anytime, anyplace," he wrote. “I’m naming the place: How about [tomorrow] on The Five? What time would you like me to appear, Bob? I look forward to our national debate on effective journalism.

I guess it should come as no surprise that the establishment conservatives are dismissing Ron Paul’s victory in the CPAC straw poll as meaningless.
While Paul sees his victory as “significant,” others do not:
Jason Mattera, spokesman for the Young America’s Foundation (YAF), was a speaker at the event where more than half of the attendees who voted were between the ages of 18-25.
“Ron Paul, his supporters almost have a cult-like allegiance to him,” Mattera comments. “They are a vocal minority. It was, I believe, less than 3,000 people who voted in the straw poll, even though there [were] 10,000 people at CPAC. It means nothing in terms of a favored candidate.”
According to the YAF spokesman,the big draw at CPAC is not the politicians and their “canned speeches,” but rather the “culture warriors” like Andrew Breitbart, Ann Coulter, and Glenn Beck, who “really inspire the crowd to take action.” Mattera says he wishes Ron Paul would retire because he “has some very wacky, wacky ideas.”
Keep in mind that Mattera is the one who spent his speech at CPAC accusing President Obama of using cocaine and called him “scrawny street agitator” and “jack-ass.”
But it’s not just Mattera dismissing Paul’s win … Gary Bauer is as well, arguing that Paul’s supporters are Truthers and that Paul’s views encourage that sort of “dangerous and deranged mindset”:

he article is authored by Jason Mattera, who appears to be auditioning to be Bill O’Reilly’s next ambush geek. If so, he has some pretty big clown shoes to fill: Stuttering Jesse Watters and Griff Teabaggin Jenkins. But Mattera is off to a good start with a video of him pestering Rep. Alan Grayson. The video is titled: “Why would Alan Grayson want to give your money over to Native American child molesters?”
In the video Mattera is shown slyly gaining Grayson’s trust by talking about his Brooklyn upbringing. But it doesn’t take long before he reveals his psycho side – and Grayson picks it up immediately asking, in an understatement, if Mattera is a kook. But Mattera presses on undaunted in his attempt to tie Grayson to a government program that Mattera says gives money to child molesters. The source for Mattera’s allegation is this language in the recently passed health care bill that addresses…
“(2) perpetrators of child sexual abuse who are Indian or members of an Indian household.”
What Mattera leaves out is that the bill does not give any money to abusers. It funds treatment programs to prevent future incidents of abuse. In the section of the bill immediately following the one Mattera cites it explicitly describes the use of funds, including:
(5) To identify and provide behavioral health treatment to Indian perpetrators and perpetrators who are members of an Indian household–
(A) making efforts to begin offender and behavioral health treatment while the perpetrator is incarcerated or at the earliest possible date if the perpetrator is not incarcerated;
‘(B) providing treatment after the perpetrator is released, until it is determined that the perpetrator is not a threat to children.
So apparently Mattera and Breitbart are opposed to protecting children from child molesters. They are openly advocating a position wherein criminal deviants would be permitted to maintain their perversions and pose a continuing threat to kids. Perhaps Breitbart and company don’t want such treatment mandated because they might find themselves at risk of being obligated to participate in such treatment. I don’t know, I’m just asking. But it is undeniable that Breitbart is more interested in the rights of child molesters than in the child victims.

interview:
So they’d bus them then to the polling stations to go vote. All it took for young people was, “Wow, Barack’s hooking me up with Dave Matthews tickets. Sweet, I’ll vote for him.” That’s how it was.
What I think the GOP should be doing is using more smart messaging to get young people interested. I have a battle plan for that in **Obama Zombies** and one thing with the smart messaging is relaying our bedrock conservative principles in new ways.
So we want to talk about redistribution of wealth and how this whole concept of social justice and egalitarianism is an affront to private property and liberty. Young people don’t get social justice. Young people don’t get redistribution of wealth. Talk about redistribution of grade point averages and they will sure get that. Show them how fair it would be if we gave part of that A or that B+ they worked their tails off to get to help some person who has that C, get that up to a B — and it’s all in the name of fairness as Obama would say. It’s all in the name of making everyone happy. If you want to talk about Cap and Tax, tell them how their iPod and their internet use — anything that expends carbon footprint is energy. Tell them that is now going to be on the chopping block with the rest. I’m not making this stuff up. There was a headline that ran in the Seattle Times about a year ago that said “Charge an iPod, Kill a Polar Bear.” It was just talking about how there’s so much new technology today and energy usage is going through the roof. That carbon footprint is increasing and we’re causing an Al-Gore-size polar melt down.

Jason Mattera is the editor of the uber-conservative magazine Human Events. He is also the most ambitious aspirant to replace James O’Keefe as America’s most comically pathetic pseudo-journalist.
Yesterday Mattera posted another in his series of childish ambush videos, this one featuring the lead singer of U2, Bono. The video was quickly picked up by conservative web sites like Breitbart.com and Glenn Beck’s The Blaze. Mattera was convinced that he had the goods on a hypocritical rock star who talked a lot about charity while padding his own nest.
There was just one problem. The person Mattera ambushed was not Bono.
The video was promoted by Fox News for the Sean Hannity show, but it will probably not be making its premiere as scheduled. It has also been pulled from Breitbart and the Blaze.
Watching the video it is clear that the gentleman that Mattera was harassing was not Bono. In fact, he was being pretty obvious about that in the manner in which he was answering the questions. He could hardly be more explicit than to say that he had no control over anything the band did, which he said in an accent that didn’t have a hint of Irish. The faux Bono was later interviewed later by the Washinton Post.
For a little background on Mattera, take a look at some of his previous antics: Harassing Sen. Bernie Sanders and demonstrating his (Mattera’s) puerile ignorance; Badgering Sen. Al Franken and opposing child health and safety programs; and stalking Rep. Alan Grayson who immediately realized that Mattera was a kook, and put him in his place. In each case Mattera’s M.O. is same. He approaches his victim pretending to be a fan or supporter (a blatant violation of journalistic ethics), then launches incoherent attacks that misstate whatever issue he is trying to raise.

Once again, Andrew Breitbart has dispatched his henchman, Jason Mattera, to annoy a member of congress. This time it’s Sen. Al Franken and, just as happened when he ambushed Rep. Alan Grayson with a false assertion that the health care bill provided funds for child molesters, Mattera is made to look the fool.
In this episode of Mattera’s Morons, Jason stalks Sen. Franken to ask about an alleged provision in the health care bill that allocates $7 billion for jungle gyms. The only problem for Mattera is that nothing of the sort is in the bill. Franken is acutely aware of this and engages Mattera in this exchange:
Franken: You came up to me and said “You know the part of the bill where they give $7 billion dollars to fund the jungle gyms?” And I said “Show me that.” It doesn’t say that in the bill.
Mattera: Oh, it says infrastructure for healthy living in playgrounds for schools. What is that an army of monkey bars?
Sorry Jason. The bill doesn’t say anything about playgrounds or jungle gyms or monkey bars. And when you approach someone who is much more knowledgeable than yourself about legislation, you ought not try to lie about what’s in the bill. What the bill says is that funds in this section can be used for…
(i) creating healthier school environments, including increasing healthy food options, physical activity opportunities, promotion of healthy lifestyle, emotional wellness, and prevention curricula, and activities to prevent chronic diseases;
(ii) creating the infrastructure to support active living and access to nutritious foods in a safe environment;
So now we see that Breitbart and his ward are just as opposed to safe schools and nutritious foods as they are to preventing child abuse. But I have to admire his tenacity. After making an ass of himself over the non-existent jungle gyms, Mattera plowed ahead with a complaint about language in the bill that provides new mothers with reasonable breaks for breast feeding. I thought Republicans were supposed to be the “family values” party. Not that they ever actually supported family values, but they have long sought to pretend that they did. But here the truth is revealed as Mattera berates Franken for supporting a bill that permits new mothers to care for their infant children.

Attacks on Judy Shepard
As a student at Roger Williams University in Rhode Island, Mattera first received national attention in September 2003 when, as editor of a student newsletter for college Republicans titled The Hawk's Right Eye, he wrote a bullying and venomous attack on the mother of a college student who was beaten and murdered for being gay. Judy Shepard, whose son Matthew was beaten to death in Wyoming, had given a talk at the Roger Williams campus about the murder of her son and had called on students to practice tolerance and respect. Mattera's column accused her of "preying on students' emotions and naivety" [sic] so that she could become "a mascot for the homosexual agenda." [1] (Pdf) The same issue published a lurid description of the homosexual rape of a young boy and threw in a joke about "pedophiles nationwide" who "condemned the FDA's food pyramid as 'bigoted' and 'hateful' because 'anus' and 'penis' were not listed as separate food groups."
As a student publication, Hawk's Right Eye received funding from the university to pay for its printing costs. Its attack on Shepard prompted the university administration to take the bait, denouncing the publication and freezing its funding. Conservative groups nationwide responded on cue, accusing the university of censorship. Young America's Foundation decried "harassment by university officials" and their "heavy-handed approach to silencing ideas that oppose the leftist orthodoxy so prevalent on college campuses." [2] :{David Horowitz:(style="background-color:#fff200"):}:'s Front Page magazine took up the cry, as did another Horowitz group, Students for Academic Freedom. [3]
The local Providence Journal noted that the controversy "has launched Jason Mattera, the 20-year-old editor of the monthly newsletter, into the national spotlight. While in Washington, D.C., yesterday, Mattera spoke at a news conference on the Student Bill of Rights, which would require colleges to balance their so-called liberal bias in faculty hiring and promotions." [4] Mattera was in Washington for his summer internship at the National Review, which was in turn arranged through his fellowship at the National Journalism Center.
Whites Only Scholarship
In 2004, as "a protest against affirmative action," the College Republicans at Roger Williams University offered a $250 "whites-only scholarship." Applicants were asked to submit an essay and "a recent picture to confirm whiteness," reported CNN. [5]
Mattera, who was a member of the school's College Republicans at the time, said the scholarship was intended to help students "at a disadvantage because of their Caucasian descent. The university compiles scholarships just for students of color on campus. And the other kids who are not of color on campus have to fend for themselves." [6]
When the interviewer pointed out that Mattera had received $5000 from the Hispanic College Fund, Mattera responded: "It's fine if you want to give scholarships based -- or if certain groups based on their ethnic background and striving those minority groups inside. But why should I automatically be at an advantage just because I'm Puerto Rican and why should that automatically qualify me over some people at my university?" Later, he added, "Hispanic is not a race. Hispanic is -- you can't tell me what color Hispanic is. It's white, blank, Indian, Asian, Hispanic. It's not a race-based scholarship." [7]
Questioning Global Warming
In May 2007, Mattera weighed in on a current Roger Williams University's complaint that a science class had made Al Gore's documentary about global warming, "An Inconvenient Truth," required viewing. Mattera called the documentary "a highly political movie" and the class requirement "academic abuse," on Fox News' "Hannity & Colmes." [8]
Colmes challenged Mattera, pointing out that global warming and its link to human activity are accepted truths within the scientific community: "You want to have equal time for something that is not of equal scientific weight." Mattera responded, "Who you are [sic] to say that’s not equal scientific weight? ... You don’t light [sic] a candle intellectually to any of these men." [9]
