The Longstrand

Originally a long earthen dike flanked the eastern edge of the city, to protect from river flooding. After the war, the top of the dike was flattened, expanded, and paved into a long road-like plaza stretching from The Wellsprings, down the east end, past the bridge, and ending at Southgate. It is lined with shops and vendors, and is a popular spot to gather and socialize. A notable feature is that the Easter face is steps down to the river plain, so birds can easily walk down at almost any point to the river, and either swim or harvest the shellfish. It’s name is synonymous with both the street, and the general neighborhood all along the east end.
