The Warrens
The Warrens get their name from the fact that most residents live in houses hollowed out of the side of the cliffs. On the surface, dozens of paths and stairs crisscross the cliff sides, with hundreds of doors and Windows facing out. Underground, however, are vast expanses of living spaces, tunnels, and workshops.
It is believed the tradition of living underground began due to lack of building material for surface dwellings. They greatly expanded after theVeldt War, as much of the city was in ruins, and with relief efforts bringing in earth moving machines, their construction proved easy. Even after reconstruction was complete, many birds chose to remain, making this once fringe area of town a very lively and homey area.
