Arun reluctant to go on the journey. has fight with Griegg, in front of Raain
"Why did you come here? why did you, small as you are, travel half way across the continent, to this tiny town?" - G
"To train under The Eternal." - A
"And what did you learn?" - G
"He's hardly been here to teach me, you guys have taught me more than he did." - A
"And what did you learn" - G
"Courage, confidence, clear mind, concentration." - A
"That's not the answer I want. What else?" - G
"What?" - A
"What did you learn while you traveled, what did you learn when you got here, what did you learn when we took you to the monks, when they rejected you, why do they send those your age into the world? But you remained, why? And what did you learn while you stayed? What did you learn while Matthew was away, what did you learn from Raain and I when we couldn't teach you what you needed?" - G
Arun thought for a while, a long while, considering each of those questions and what one answer Griegg could be looking for, the others stared at him, waiting.
"To rely on myself?" - A finally says.
"Yes" - G
"You came to us on your own, looking for a job, but you kept your abilities secret, practicing them on your own. When that got out of hand one of the monks came to meet you. But he told you that you needed to go into the world and teach yourself. Which is what you were doing. But instead of continuing to teach yourself, you waited for us to teach you." - R
"But we can't teach you, no one can teach you. You must teach yourself. We can provide support, but you must teach yourself. You must find the strength you have within and act upon that strength, instead of waiting for someone else to give you strength or do your task for you, coddle you through it." - G
"too far, Griegg." - R
"sorry, coddle was too far, but that's what he's expecting. To have his hands held and be guided every step of the way. And he didn't used to be that way." G
"My parents told me to go. They said they could no longer care for me, I was too dangerous. They told me where I should go, who I should see. They gave me everything I'd need for the journey, but it wasn't my choice." - A
"And in doing so you learned a bit of self-reliance." - G
"Yeah, had to, the road was cold. And I got lost." - A
"But you found your way." - R
"You got here by your own doing." - G
"Yeah, I had to find my way around Hhorq camps, and through Gar cities, high mountains, wide rivers, dense forests," - A
"And you did it. Then you got here and went soft." - G
"Griegg!" - R
"He's right, Raain. Ok, I'll go." - A
"You won't be alone, and we will continue to guide you as we can. But when it comes time to act, you need to be able to act. The road can be dangerous. We work as a team, but we are still individuals within that team. The many need the one, and the one needs the many." - R
Raain and Nira talking about how Raain feels about Griegg, and him not expressing a return of that affection.
"Affection is a coal that must be cooled, else, suffered, it will set the heart on fire, in destruction." "Temper your heart."
