A Time
ASTROPHYSICS
Proper Time:
Proper time, in the context of special relativity, refers to the time interval between two events that occur at the same location in a specific reference frame. It is often denoted by \(\Delta t_0 \) and is measured by an observer who is at rest relative to the events being considered.
The word ‘proper’ does not denote anything superior about this frame; it just happens to be the frame in which the clock is at rest.
The concept of proper time is crucial in understanding time dilation, a relativistic effect that occurs when comparing time intervals measured by observers in different inertial reference frames. Proper time provides a frame-independent measure of the time between events when observed from the frame in which those events occur at the same location.
