DETAILS/DESCRIPTION: The ohm is named after its Ohm*, who developed an equation which, because of its universal importance in the field of electrical engineering, was also named after him: “Ohm’s Law.”
The equation is: amps [or electrical current] = volts divided by resistance (the symbol for amps is I. So, the equation is written:- I = V/R). R [resistance] is measured in ohms.
Or, stated another way, current flowing through a wire is directly proportional to the voltage and inversely proportional to its resistance. Ohm published his findings on the proportional relationship between current and voltage in 1827.
