One of my favorite labs on campus.
Stunning work! this is the future of neurosci. (lab is on Arastradero in CNC building
CNC Cracking the Neural Code. with Karl D.

Mark: Assoc Prof joint Bio and Apl Phys.
HHMI investig.

Neural circuit dynamics and optical imaging

3 major efforts:

in vivo fluor imaging and bahevior: cerebelar-dep motor control

dev of fiber-optic fluor microendoscopy to study learning in behaving mice and for clin use in humans

dev of hi-thruput mass parallel study of large # of Drosphila concurrently

emphasis on learning and memory proc.

our approach is a combo of bheavior, ephys, and comput methods using
hi-res fluor optical imaging capable of resolving indiv neurons and dendrites.

want to examine dyanmics of neuronal poplulations or of dendritic compartments in behaving animals.

work with model orgs: mice and flies but also humans.

control and learning of motor behaviors
and potential app to human clinical use.

long chat with both Thomas and Benjamin after the talk by Rainer Friedrich (great talk);
visit them on Arastradero! great guys. Mark has labs there and in Clark (as does
Karl D).
