Syncing and Working Offline
In the desktop and mobile apps, your brains are stored on your device and synced with the cloud. These topics explain when syncing happens, what happens when you work offline or change the same thing in two places, and how light sync saves bandwidth by leaving attachments in the cloud until you need them.
- Syncing Brains — Sync keeps a brain's local copy and its cloud copy in step; with Sync automatically on, the synced brains of the account you are using sync every few minutes while the app is running, open or not, waiting for a pause in your editing.
- Working Offline and Sync Recovery — Keep working offline and sync later; if a sync is interrupted, resume it; when the same things were changed in two places, TheBrain merges them for you — a note edited in both places takes both sets of changes, marking any clash with a pair of Conflict callouts, and a losing file is kept as a "[Conflict]" copy — so nothing is lost.
- Light-Sync Attachments — Light sync saves bandwidth and storage by downloading a brain's attachments only as you need them, instead of all at once; it is on by default for every synced brain and is set separately on each device.
- Offline Attachments and Light Sync — Light sync, which is on by default for a synced brain and is set separately on each device, downloads attachments only as needed to save space and bandwidth; a cloud badge marks a file that is not on the device yet, and you can mark individual files Available Offline to keep them there.
