Linear methods work as per Bounded applicability
- Don’t get trapped thinking that everything in the Complex domain must be non-linear
- Take a Systems within systems nested approach
- Linear methods can be applied when appropriate
- Conducting a Safe-to-Fail experiment is a start-finish project
- Vector Theory of Change is a linear sequential process
- Estuarine Mapping is a 7 step-by-step method
- While Experimentation is usually associated with the Complex domain, it also can be applied in the Complicated domain
- Backcasting is deciding on a viable linear path back from a defined Future state to the Present
- Finalizing the blueprint could involve a few trial & error tests
- Backcasting is deciding on a viable linear path back from a defined Future state to the Present
If you are going to take complexity seriously then you should know working a systems level is problematic. Enriching local interactions, changing identity and agency, real time monitoring for emergence with consequential resource allocation and a whole bunch of other things come into play. Oh and linear solutioning will still work in some contexts
