CPTED Second Generation Principles
- The environment can affect behaviour but it cannot create community
- The strength of the social interactions within a community ultimately enables a safe environment to emerge
- Second Generation CPTED extends beyond the traditional focus on physical design to include social and cultural factors that influence crime and safety
- It emphasizes community engagement, social cohesion, and the development of positive relationships within communities
The four main principles of Second Generation CPTED are:

- Encouraging strong social ties and networks within the community
- Community Culture
- Fostering a shared community identity and culture
- Threshold Capacity
- Managing the capacity of spaces to support social interactions without becoming overcrowded or underutilized
- Connectivity
