Matthew 11
Verses 1-6
11 And it came to pass,
when Jesus ended directing //sermon on the mount//
his twelve disciples, //talmidim//
he departed
thence to teach and to preach
in their cities.
^2 ^And John //John the Baptist//
having heard in the prison
the works //good works//
of the Christ,
having sent two of his disciples, said to him //Jesus//,
`Art thou He who is coming, or for another do we look?'
And Jesus answering said to them //John’s disciples//,
`Having gone, declare to John
the things that ye hear and see,
blind receive sight,
and lame walk,
lepers are cleansed,
and deaf hear,
dead are raised,
and poor //humble// have good news //of the Reign of God// proclaimed,
and happy is he who may not be stumbled in me.'
May not be stumbled in me = whosoever is not offended in me, or does not find a cause of michshol (falling, stumbling) in me [as Moshiach].
Verses 7-10
And as they are going //John’s disciples were leaving//
Jesus began to say
to the multitudes concerning John,
Meaning “Yochanan’s people.” Many of Yeshua’s talmidim were immersed by Yochanan.
`What went ye out to the wilderness to view? --
a reed shaken by the wind?
`But what went ye out to see? --
a man clothed in soft garments?
lo, those wearing the soft things are in the kings' houses.
`But what went ye out to see? --
a prophet?
yes, I say to you,
and more than a prophet,
for //more than a prophet because// this is he //John the Baptist//
of whom it hath been written,
Lo, I do send My messenger before thy face, who shall prepare thy way before thee.
Jewish Flashback: Malachi 3 - Prophesies of
- John the Baptist coming,
- Jesus coming - that Jesus will come as a refining fire and lauderying soap. He will purify the Levites (the priests)
Jewish Flashback: Exodus 23:20 “He will prepare the way before me”
- Watch and listen to His voice. Do not rebel against Him. Listen closely to His voice. Do not bow down to their gods and serve them or do what they do. Overthrow them. Serve YHWH/God and he will bless you.
Verses 11-15
Verily I say to you,
there hath not risen,
among those born of women,
a greater than John the Baptist,
but he //anyone//
who is least
in the reign of the heavens
is greater
than he //John the Baptist//.
`And, from the days of John the Baptist till now,
the reign of the heavens doth suffer violence, //enter into oppression HGV//
and violent men do take it //reign of the heavens// by force, //decrees overtake him with strength HGV//
for //the reign of heaven suffers because// all the prophets and the law till John //John the Baptist// did prophesy, //and the Torah prophesied//
and if ye //the multitude// are willing to receive [it], //If you want to choose it HGV//
he //John the Baptist// is Elijah who was about to come;
he //anyone// who is having ears to hear //shema//-- let him hear.
The descendants of Jacob have always turned away from the Lords decrees - but if they return to Him, He will return to them.
- They rob their tithes and offerings from him - if they bring those to him, he will abundantly bless and care for them.
- They spoke arrogantly against God
- A faithful remnant feared the Lord, a rememberance was written for them, they will be his treasured possessions and will be spared.
- A distinction will be made between the righteous and the wicked - those who serve God and those who do not.
- the arrogant and evildoer will be stubble and set on fire, not even a root or branch will be left.
- The faithful will rise with healing, will trample on the wicked
- Remember the law of Moses, the decrees and laws
- God will send the prophet Elijah before the great and dreadful day when the Lord comes.
- He will turn the hearts of the parents and children against each other or God will come and strike the land with total destruction.
The oppressors take the reign of the heavens by determining what is good and bad in man’s eyes, instead of what is good and bad in YHWH’s eyes. Make up their own laws.
Verses 16-19
`And to what shall I liken this generation?
it is like little children in market-places,
sitting and calling to their comrades,
and saying, We piped unto you,
and ye did not dance,
we lamented to you,
and ye did not smite the breast.
`For //like little children because//
//They say//
John came neither eating nor drinking,
He hath a demon;
the Son of Man came eating and drinking,
Lo, a man, a glutton, and a wine-drinker,
a friend of tax-gatherers and sinners,
and wisdom was justified of her children.'
Verses 20-24
Then began he //Jesus// to reproach the cities
in which were done most of his mighty works,
because they did not reform.
`Wo to thee, Chorazin!
wo to thee, Bethsaida!
because, if in Tyre and Sidon had been done the mighty works that were done in you,
long ago in sackcloth and ashes they had reformed;
but I say to you //Chorazin & Bethsaida//,
to Tyre and Sidon
it shall be more tolerable //smaller punishment HGV// in a day of Judgment than for you //Chorazin & Bethsaida//.
`And thou, Capernaum,
which unto the heaven //where God is// wast exalted,
unto hades //the place of the dead// shalt be brought down,
because if in Sodom had been done the mighty works that were done in thee,
it had remained unto this day;
but I say to you //Capernaum//,
to the land of Sodom it shall be more tolerable //smaller punishment HGV// in a day of Judgment than to thee.'//Capernaum//

Verses 25-30
At that time Jesus answering said,
`I do confess to Thee, Father,
Lord of the heavens
and of the earth,
that thou didst hide these things
from wise and understanding ones, //wise ones knowing literature HGV//
and didst reveal them to babes. //blamesless/perfect/complete ones HGV//
Yes, Father, because so
it was good pleasure before Thee.
`All things were delivered to me
by my Father,
and none doth know the Son,
except the Father,
nor doth any know the Father,
except the Son,
and he to whom the Son may wish to reveal [Him]. //the Father//
Come unto me,
all ye labouring
and burdened ones,
and I will give you rest,
take up my yoke upon you,
and learn from me,
because I am meek
and humble in heart,
and ye shall find rest to your souls,
For //you will find rest because// my yoke [is] easy,
and my burden is light.'

11 I assure you and most solemnly say to you, among those born of women there has not risen anyone greater than John the Baptist; yet the one who is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater [in privilege] than he. 12 From the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven suffers violent assault, and violent men seize it by force [as a precious prize]. 13 For all the prophets and the Law prophesied up until John. 14 And if you are willing to accept it, John himself is [the fulfillment of] Elijah [as the messenger] who was to come [before the kingdom]. 15 He who has ears to hear, let him hear and heed My words.
