The right dominates the online media ecosystem, seeping into sports, comedy, and other supposedly nonpolitical spaces

A new Media Matters analysis found 9 out of the 10 top online shows assessed are right-leaning

Written by Kayla Gogarty

Published 03/14/25

As Americans increasingly get their news from online shows and streamers, the influence of this media ecosystem becomes more prominent — and Media Matters has found that the most popular of this content is overwhelmingly right-leaning.

In a new study, Media Matters assessed the audience size of popular online shows — podcasts, streams, and other long-form audio and video content regularly posted online. To do so, we gathered data on the number of followers, subscribers, and views across streaming platforms (YouTube, Spotify, Rumble, Twitch, and Kick) and social media platforms that are used to amplify and promote these shows (Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok). Apple Podcasts does not publicly provide follower counts on its platform, so it was not included in the audience data.

This analysis was based on 320 online shows with a right-leaning or left-leaning ideological bent. We found that right-leaning online shows dominate the ecosystem, with substantially larger audiences on both politics/news shows and supposedly nonpolitical shows that we determined often platformed ideological content or guests.

Key findings:

Podcasts, online shows, and streamers are increasingly popular and influential

At Trump’s election victory party on November 5, UFC President Dana White praised several podcasters for their role in helping to get Trump elected, saying: “I want to thank the boys Adin Ross, Theo Von, Bussin' with the Boys. And last but not least, the mighty and powerful Joe Rogan.”

Podcasts and online shows have become more popular and trusted news sources. The number of people listening to podcasts monthly has reportedly more than doubled since 2016. According to a 2023 Pew Research study, 87% of people who hear news discussed on podcasts said they expect it to be mostly accurate and 31% said they trust podcasts more than other news sources.

In August 2024 — just a few months before Election Day — Pew found that about 1 in 5 Americans said they regularly get news from influencers on social media. The weekly reach of large online shows is also reportedly better than that of many cable networks.

With Americans increasingly getting their news from these sources, they played a significant role in the 2024 election. By appearing on these shows ahead of the 2024 election, Trump reached an audience of 23.5 million American adults in an average week — compared to Harris’ 6.4 million — according to Edison Podcast Metrics.

Journalists have started to highlight the asymmetry of the online media ecosystem. Bloomberg watched and analyzed over 2,000 videos — nearly 1,300 hours of footage — from nine prominent YouTubers, including Adin Ross, Joe Rogan, Logan Paul, Theo Von, and Patrick Bet-David, and found that “above all, the broadcasters described American men as victims of a Democratic campaign to strip them of their power,” though “none of the broadcasters style themselves as political pundits.”

Click here for a larger version of this chart.

Nine of the 10 online shows from our study with the largest total following across platforms were right-leaning, accounting for at least 197 million total followers and subscribers. These are the online shows of:

The only left-leaning show among the top 10 wasWhat Now? with Trevor Noah, with over 21.1 million total followers and subscribers.

Of these most-followed right-leaning online shows, only 4 are categorized on Apple Podcasts as news and politics, while Rogan, Von, and Full Send are characterized as comedy, Peterson as education, and Dr. Phil as society and culture.

While these podcasts often host celebrity guests like Timothée Chalamet, MrBeast, and Luke Bryan, these 5 right-leaning comedy, education, and society and culture shows have also had dozens of episodes featuring right-wing media figures and politicians since October 1, 2024.

Guests on these shows have included Trump, Vance, the New York Post’s Miranda Devine, The Daily Wire’s Ben Shapiro and Matt Walsh, right-wing figures Tucker Carlson and Dave Smith, Trump picks Tom Homan, Tulsi Gabbard, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., and Monica Crowley, UFC CEO and Trump ally Dana White, and far-right constitutional sheriffs.

Additionally, 65 right-leaning online shows had followings larger than 1 million, but only 21 left-leaning online shows boast comparable followings.

This content is further amplified on Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok — social media platforms where the programs or hosts post full streams, clips, and show links. Left-leaning online shows had at least 48 million followers across these platforms, while the right-leaning online shows had more than 225 million followers.

Of a cumulative 584.6 million followers and subscribers across all eight platforms, Media Matters found that right-leaning online shows accounted for roughly 82%, or 480.6 million — almost five times more than left-leaning shows’ nearly 104 million.

The largest followings for the right- and left-leaning online shows were on YouTube, with 185.5 million and 45.8 million subscribers, respectively.

Moreover, these right-leaning shows span a wider variety of categories, self-identifying by subjects such as business, comedy, gaming, education, entertainment, religion and spirituality, society and culture, sports, wellness/health, and technology. Meanwhile, left-leaning shows that are not explicitly identified as news and politics-related mostly self-identify as comedy, entertainment, or society and culture programs.

The disparity in total followers and subscribers across platforms of right-leaning and left-leaning online shows in these categories was substantial. Right-leaning online shows categorized as comedy, entertainment, sports, and other supposedly nonpolitical topics had at least 243.1 million total followers and subscribers — more than the 237.5 million for right-leaning online shows categorized as news and politics-related. It’s also more than five times the 44 million followers and subscribers for left-leaning shows not identified as political, and more than four times the 60 million of left-leaning shows categorized as news and politics-related.

The 15 right-leaning online comedy shows featured in Media Matters’ analysis — including The Joe Rogan Experience, This Past Weekend with Theo Von, Full Send Podcast, Impaulsive, AwakenWithJP, Kill Tony, Flagrant, The Roseanne Barr Podcast, and The Tim Dillon Show — had more than 117.5 million total followers and subscribers, or 20% of the total following of all 320 right- and left-leaning shows.

Right-leaning online shows also use Rumble to expand their audience by billions of views, while left-leaning shows have essentially no presence on the platform. On Rumble, channels affiliated with the right-leaning online shows we analyzed had earned more than 3 billion views.

...And so that's the real word of caution and concern here. And the other piece, and you sort of got this in the first segment too, is the information asymmetry.

I mean, if you just look at sort of the monthly listens of podcasts, left-aligned and left-leaning versus right-aligned and right-leaning, you have about 60 million downloads, listens of left-leaning, left-aligned. We have 300 million for right and right-aligned.

And that's a very small universe, but that gives them a head start. And so that gives them the ability to take these unpopular moments and keep driving through, help, you know, block, and we shouldn't lose sight of that. That this is by design. This is intentional. This is a feature, so we can't feed into the infancy. And here's where the note of comfort and courage comes in.

And you sort of got to this too, which is think about that imbalance. Think about how wild that imbalance is. Now that's only one data point, and yet, it was still so close. Yeah. Power of the pop -- and then that's the thing. I'm not a wild eyed optimist here, but my point is is that we should stand firm in the recognition that -- and acknowledge -- that they are going to be driving undemocratic things....

Amid an ongoing right-wing media panic about a supposed “invasion” of migrants coming across the southern border, a group of right-wing extremists — including members with ties to QAnon, the election denial movement, and anti-vaccine propagandists — have organized a convoy and series of rallies along the southern border. The “Take Our Border Back Southern Border Convoy” has been amplified and celebrated by right-wing media and political figures as posts promoting it have spread across social media.

LIZ MACDONALD (HOST): We have a new, this new news coming in. A trucker convoy is kicking off heading to the border states — we're hearing February 3 — for a multistate rally at the border in Texas, Arizona, and California. And they're calling on active and retired law enforcement, military veterans, elected officials, small business owners, ranchers to join them to rally in protest of what's going on at the border. What do you make of this? More Americans are stepping up.

REP. BETH VAN DUYNE (R-TX): Hey, don’t forget the mama bears that they’re also asking to go down there, who are seeing what’s happening in schools, where their kids are getting kicked out because they’re having illegal immigrants stay in classrooms.

Yeah, I say bring those beautiful, huge semis, those 18-wheeler bad boys down here to protect our border. They need to understand that this is not simply — you know, they can't sweep this under the rug. People are opening their eyes to it, and I hope it is a fantastic convoy, and I hope it does, you know, shed more light on it, and you're seeing people from around the country. I mean, they're even talking about having folks from Canada now come down because they see the damage that is being caused. So yeah, bring those bad boys down to our coast.

AN 12 24

Throughout the 2024 election cycle, reproductive rights were an electoral vulnerability for Donald Trump. Though popular with the Republican base, his appointment of antiabortion judges gave serious pause to many key voting blocs, including undecided young men.

In pursuit of these voters, Trump’s strategy wasn’t demagoguery but comedy.

Trump’s October appearance on comedian Andrew Schulz’s podcast, “Flagrant,” demonstrated his approach to the touchy issue.

Schulz playfully invoked Trump’s youngest son, who’s a student at New York University – “Barron is 18. He’s unleashed in New York City. Are you sure you want to reverse Roe vs. Wade now?” After a beat, Trump laughed, Schulz laughed, and then, presumably, thousands of young male listeners joined in.

Trump continued with boilerplate answers about states rights, but this substance – as is so often the case – was divorced from the strategy. Schulz had helped Trump turn an unpopular position into a frat boy punchline, something to be discarded along with last night’s empties. Trump won that media cycle and, ultimately, a majority of the votes of young men on his way to a second White House win.IFrame Content Podcaster Andrew Schulz pokes fun at the touchy issue of abortion in an interview with Donald Trump on Oct. 9, 2024.

Vice President Kamala Harris, by contrast, appeared on mainstream comedy shows with aging, liberal audiences like “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.” Pundits criticized her failure to engage young voters in online comedy platforms. They also urged liberals to develop a new crop of political comedians to match the influence of Schulz and podcaster Joe Rogan.

However, these criticisms of Harris’ strategy miss the failure of liberal comedians to evolve with media and political trends.

While Jimmy Kimmel cries and Jon Stewart rants, the right wing in the U.S. has successfully depicted itself as the new home for free speech and cutting edge comedy. We explored this development in our book, “That’s Not Funny: How the Right Makes Comedy Work for Them.”

The right has become a home for comedians not by making political arguments through jokes, but by positing that there are funnier things to do than to argue.

A formula goes stale

Liberal comedy and political satire have stuck to the same formula of Stewart’s “The Daily Show” for much of the 21st century.

It goes something like this: A sarcastic, eloquent host uses meticulously researched data to describe a pressing social issue, and then delivers a punchline directed at right-wing hypocrisy. The resultant pairing of righteous laughter and anger has been repeated by “The Colbert Report,” “Full Frontal with Samantha Bee” and “Patriot Act with Hasan Minhaj,” among other comedy programs.

These satirical shows filled the void left by an increasingly profit-driven news media. However, they have come to prioritize political preaching at the expense of laughs.

Perhaps Stewart’s most successful successor – and the best example of liberal satire’s patronizing tone – is HBO’s “Last Week Tonight with John Oliver.” Because the show appears on prestige cable, Oliver has a bigger budget to tackle controversial topics in depth.

Indeed, journalists and academics alike have celebrated the “John Oliver effect,” in which viewers mobilize behind a cause shortly after the host devotes an episode to it, whether it’s vaccines or internet regulation.

Oliver’s long-form lectures can be compelling. However, his appeal is not to young undecided voters who can’t afford HBO, but to college-educated liberals predisposed to support progressive reforms.

Twice in a recentelection postmortem episode, he reminded viewers of topics his show has covered in depth, like a professor chiding students for not remembering recent lessons. In one segment about Trump’s disingenuous economic message, Oliver pleaded that his show had already “explained inflation for 24 human minutes.”

While Oliver’s exasperation can be amusing, he’s clearly more upset at – even disdainful of – the American electorate, chastising them for failing the final exam of election night.

For liberals to reconnect with young voters – especially young men – we think they have to reinvent political comedy. Doing so will mean moving beyond the haranguing that has long been its primary delivery style. This will be a challenge, however, as the right fortifies the relationship between its own comedians and political power.

Rise of the right-wing comedy complex

Trump’s success with comedy is a result of the new relationship between digital media and the business of joking. For decades, liberals were thought to hold a monopoly on comedy. Moreover, there was little money to be made in comedy acts devoted to right-wing politics.

Since 2016, however, a new crop of right-wing comedians has taken to digital platforms and algorithmically driven audience targeting in order to change this reality.

Libertarian podcasters like Rogan have long danced around the political spectrum, finding diverse positions that intrigue his primary target of young male listeners. He routinely platforms right-leaning cultural and comedic voices, features them as guests, and promotes their shows and products. In doing so, he has helped create a de facto right-wing comedy network.

Although each comedian or show in this network doesn’t have the audience and impact of, say, “The Daily Show” in its prime, their aggregate strength is precisely targeted at coveted young consumers and potential voters.

It is no coincidence that the most heralded stops on Trump’s October podcast tour were shows hosted by three regulars on “The Joe Rogan Experience”: Schulz, comedian Theo Von and libertarian scientist Lex Fridman. Trump also appeared on Rogan’s show for a three-hour episode.

Changing styles and platforms

Importantly, the type of political comedy featured on these programs is distinct from that of liberal satire of the past two decades.

“The Daily Show,” “Last Week” and their ilk dazzle viewers in 30-minute episodes using intricate arguments and sardonic punchlines.

Rogan and his affiliates hang out for hours, and audiences can listen as they go about their daily routines. In the process, podcast hosts shape their audience’s taste in culture, technology and recreation in what’s known as parasocial bonding.

Trump’s appearance on Von’s podcast “This Past Weekend,” for example, featured little in the way of biting jokes and rollicking laughter. Instead, Von and Trump held a meandering conversation full offunny, personal anecdotes about drug use interspersed with gestures to political topics.

Comedy styles are cyclical. In the 1950s, stand-up comedian Mort Sahl would read a newspaper on stage, peppering in sarcastic observations about the day’s headlines. The Smothers Brothers played with yo-yos before they introduced protest songs. The apolitical observational humor of Jerry Seinfeld reigned supreme in the 1980s and ’90s.

The 2000s liberal satire of Stewart and Oliver was driven by cable television industry mandates to court young men. The tastes and media habits of this audience have moved on, but liberal comedy has failed to follow them.

Early in 2021, Christian nationalist home-schooling advocate, author, and podcaster Heidi St. John launched a bid for U.S. Congress in Washington state’s 3rd Congressional District. Outraged by incumbent Republican Rep. Jaime Herrera Beutler’s vote to impeach former President Donald Trump in the wake of the Jan. 6 insurrection at the Capitol, St. John decided to try and unseat her in the GOP primary byappealing to MAGA voters, denouncing public libraries as “evil organizations,” and pledging to “be a mom for America.”

Earlier this month, St. John appeared on the “Stand Up For The Truth” podcast, where she soundedSeven Mountains and Christian nationalist themesthat have been central to her campaign, describing politics as “a spiritual battle” and vowing to “bring back the name of God into the political sphere.”

“[Politics is] in my blood,” St. Johnsaid. “And I think it should be in the blood of every Christ follower. Politics determined policy, and it is policy that has murdered 63 million of our unborn in this country. It is policy that has gotten us into the mess that we are in as a nation, and we need wise people and godly people to ascend to positions of authority in the nation.”

“What we’ve observed over years and years and years is a church deciding to pull itself out of arguably one of the most important aspects of the culture, which is determining our laws and determining the policy that governs the people here,” she continued. “Christians belong in every sphere of influence. We have a command to be strong and courageous. [God] did not say, ‘Be strong and courageous except for in the political sphere, stay out of that one.’ No, we belong in every sphere of influence. We belong in medicine. We belong in entertainment. We belong in education. And we belong in politics.”

“[Christians] should be canvassing, they should be helping clean up the voter rolls, they should be running for positions of authority in every sphere of influence,” St. John added. “We bring back the name of Jesus, we bring back the name of God into the political sphere and we say out loud, ‘What is the biggest problem in our country? We have turned away from God.'”

“This is a spiritual battle,” St. John declared. “We know that we serve the Lord of Heaven’s armies. We serve the creator of the universe, the one who spoke the world into being. He can do anything. And I think he’s calling his people back out of hiding and out of the shadows and into the battle and onto the battlefield.”[pixvid: armour up xian soldiers it's game on!]

Rogan's controversial interview with anti-vaccination virologist Dr. Robert Malone caused such an uproar that more than scientists, doctors, and other health professionals signed an open letter to Spotify as a petition for his podcast to be removed from the platform.

While Rogan's spread of misinformation is quite alarming, a new analysis published by NPR's Shannon Bond explains how the controversy surrounding his situation underscores a bigger problem; one that appears to be a bit more difficult to regulate. In the open letter, health professionals and members of the scientific community argue that online platforms like Spotify have enabled right-wing figures who have become adept at spreading misinformation.

"We are in a global health emergency, and streaming platforms like Spotify that provide content to the public have a responsibility not to add to the problem," said Katrine Wallace, an epidemiologist at the University of Illinois Chicago's School of Public Health.

"Their friends and family were sending it to them as evidence that the vaccines are dangerous and that they shouldn't get it," she said. "It provides a sense of false balance, like there's two sides to the scientific evidence when, really, there is not. The overwhelming evidence is that the vaccines are safe and that they're effective."

Researchers specializing in the study of misinformation have suggested that it was inevitable for podcasts to become a point of contention. Like social media platforms, Bond notes that podcasts give individuals the ability to reach build large audiences. But despite the long reach, podcasts have not faced the type of scrutiny social media platforms have. So, why is that? Podcasts give influencers the ability to spread misinformation by way of audio.

Evelyn Douek, a research fellow for the Knight First Amendment Institute at Columbia University, explained why podcasts are far more difficult to regulate as it becomes a matter of words compared to audio.

"Wherever you have users generating content, you're going to have all of the same content moderation issues and controversies that you have in any other space," said Douek.

According to Bond, Douek also noted that "it's also harder to ferret out falsehoods and hate speech in podcasts compared with posts written on Facebook and Twitter."

Valerie Wirtschafter, a senior data analyst at the Brookings Institution, also weighed in with a similar perspective noting the distinction of audio and the potential problem it poses in the podcast world. "Audio can be a powerful way to spread misinformation because of all the qualities that make the format so compelling to listeners," said Wirtschafter.

Wirtschafter also stressed the importance of scrutinizing audio in the same manner written social media posts are.

del Bigtree is an anti-vaccine activist credited with worsening a measles outbreak, and he is also a COVID-19 conspiracy theorist who has encouraged people to intentionally contract the deadly disease and then treat symptoms by taking Vitamin C until they get diarrhea. Even though Bigtree routinely promotes deadly medical misinformation through his various online broadcasts, his commentary regularly features ads from some of the most recognizable brands in the United States.

Bigtree is the host of a podcast, The Highwire with Del Bigtree, that Apple makes available for streaming through iTunes. In recent weeks, he has falsely claimed on his podcast that more than 300,000 people in the United States may have been killed by COVID-19 vaccines, that getting a COVID-19 vaccine makes a person a “magnet” to contract the most “deadly” variants of the disease, and that the COVID-19 vaccine “doesn’t work.” He has also hosted guests who have falsely claimed that wearing a mask means “limiting oxygen into the lungs and into the brain” and that wearing a mask causes cancer via “oxygen deprivation” but that cancer can be treated with Vitamin D.

Media Matters watched Bigtree’s podcast and found that it often features advertisements from major U.S. brands, including Progressive, Lexus, ZipRecruiter, Rocket Mortgage, Geico, Lowe's, NBC, Capital One, and ColorChoice.

Bigtree, who has no medical credentials, is a leading figure in the anti-vaccination movement through his anti-vaccine nonprofit organization Informed Consent Action Network. A 2019 profile in the online parenting magazine Fatherly labeled him “dangerous” and said he “may be the most connected node in the anti-vaccine activist network.”

Bigtree made national headlines in 2019 when he interfered with efforts to contain a measles outbreak in a predominantly Orthodox Jewish community. As the outbreak was ongoing, Bigtree led rallies in heavily impacted areas where he encouraged people to resist calls for vaccination and spread misinformation, including the false claim that vaccines cause autism in children. The Washington Post identified Bigtree as one of the best-funded leaders in the anti-vaccine movement and reported on his claim outside of a Brooklyn anti-vaccination rally that “they should be allowed to have the measles if they want the measles. It’s crazy that there’s this level of intensity around a trivial childhood illness.” Bigtree also received attention -- and condemnation -- in 2019 for placing a yellow Star of David badge on his coat during an anti-vaccine speech, referencing Nazi Germany’s persecution of Jews. He has since turned his attention to spreading misinformation about COVID-19 and the vaccines against the disease that offer a chance to rein in the pandemic.

Last year, YouTube banned Bigtree from its platform after he repeatedly encouraged viewers to intentionally contract COVID-19 and pushed other dangerous medical misinformation, including promoting the claims of holistic medical practitioners, one of whom advised COVID-19 patients to take Vitamin C “till bowel tolerance,” which he explained meant “until you get diarrhea.”

In recent episodes of his Apple podcast, Bigtree has:

Misrepresented a study he falsely attributed to Harvard Medical School to claim more than 318,000 Americans may have been killed by COVID-19 vaccines “in three months” and that more than a million will be killed by COVID-19 vaccines before the end of the year. After making this claim, Bigtree issued a warning: “If you make any attempt to force this ridiculous, horrifyingly dangerous product onto me or my children, or any of my friends, look out. We are ready to go to battle on this.” The episode featured ads from ZipRecruiter, StihlDealers.com, and Rocket Mortgage.

Touted his 2016 film Vaxxed, which helped popularize the false belief that vaccines cause autism in children. The HighWire episode featured an advertisement from Geico.

Argued that “a lot” of reports of COVID-19 death tolls around the world are “lies” in an April 2021 podcast where he attacked the idea of wearing a mask to slow the spread of the disease, including calling Florida judge Dale Cohen a “mask Nazi” because he previously issued an adverse ruling against Bigtree’s guest for that day’s program, who is involved in a child custody visitation dispute that has become entangled with her anti-mask views. The program featured ads from ADP, Dunkin’ Donuts, and American Family Insurance.

Featured the false claim that “there is one thing for sure, masks do help in limiting oxygen into the lungs and into the brain.” The episode featured advertisements from Progressive and Lexus.

Falsely claimed Johnson & Johnson has “admitted” its COVID-19 vaccine is “dangerous” while claiming he knew the vaccine was dangerous but was “holding this information back” so that “we could really use that in court.” The episode featured ads from Napa Auto Parts.

Promoted an anti-vaccine rally held in Connecticut in episodes featuring ads from Geico and Lowe's.

Distorted a non-peer reviewed study to claim that “the vaccine is a disaster” and that receiving a vaccine makes a person a “magnet” to contract a “deadly” variant of COVID-19. The episode featured an advertisement from NBC.

Falsely stated that “the vaccine doesn’t work” and that MSNBC host Rachel Maddow and other proponents of COVID-19 vaccines “are all riding on a sinking ship to the bottom of the ocean, or hell as it would be if this ends up costing the lives of millions of people around the world.” The episode featured ads from Progressive and Capital One.

Used the COVID-19 pandemic as a prompt for a guest who claimed that wearing a mask causes cancer through “oxygen deprivation” and that Vitamin D “is healing” to cancer, among other unscientific claims. An ad for ColorChoice ran during the episode.

12/20 an alexh

Although Joe Biden's inauguration is only three weeks away, President Donald Trump and many of his loyalists have yet to acknowledge the president-elect's victory. And that includes the president's personal attorney, Rudy Giuliani, who has announced yet another election-related lawsuit challenging Biden's win in Wisconsin.

Making debunked and totally baseless claims of widespread voter fraud, Trump and his allies have filed one lawsuit after another in the hope of overturning the 2020 presidential election results — and most have already been dismissed or rejected in the federal courts. That includes the U.S. Supreme Court's refusal to even consider a lawsuit filed by Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, who asked the High Court to throw out the election results in four states that Biden won: Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, Michigan and Georgia.

Giuliani, according to Independent reporter Justin Vallejo, is challenging a December 14 ruling by the Wisconsin Supreme Court — which rejected the Trump campaign's efforts to get more than 50,000 ballots thrown out in Wisconsin. The former New York City mayor is hoping that the U.S. Supreme Court will invalidate the Wisconsin Supreme Court's decision.

Vallejo notes that Trump's campaign "says its petition will present claims that ballots were counted by voters without identification, incomplete absentee ballots were counted, and ballots were collected by hand at events held before the election."

Previously, a lawsuit from the Trump campaign asked the U.S. Supreme Court to throw out the election results in Pennsylvania, but it refused to consider that case. And the justices later rejected Paxton's widely condemned lawsuit out of Texas.

When the Wisconsin Supreme Court ruled against the Trump campaign on December 14, it was a 4-3 decision — and Justice Brian Hagedorn wrote, "Our laws allow the challenge flag to be thrown regarding various aspects of election administration. The challenges raised by the campaign in this case, however, come long after the last play or even the last game; the campaign is challenging the rulebook adopted before the season began."

During a recent appearance on the podcast of former White House Chief Strategist Steve Bannon — who is facing criminal fraud charges for allegedly defrauding donors to the We Build the Wall campaign — Trump campaign adviser Boris Epshteyn insisted that the campaign will continue to fight the election results in Wisconsin and Pennsylvania and claimed that there will be "action out of Georgia" as well.

The U.S. House of Representatives and the U.S. Senate are scheduled to officially count the Electoral College results during a joint session of Congress on January 6. Some far-right House Republicans, including Rep. Mo Brooks of Alabama and Sen. Josh Hawley of Missouri, have vowed to challenge the election results that day. But Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has acknowledged Biden as president-elect and Sen. Kamala Harris of California as vice president-elect and is urging other Senate Republicans to do the same. Since Democrats still control the House of Representatives, and a majority of the Senate acknowledges Biden's win, Trump has no path to overturn the election in Congress, despite his hopes.

By Climate Investigations Center

A newly released podcast, Drilled, “investigates the crime of the century — the creation of climate denial.”

The eight part series takes listeners back in time to the inception of climate change denial. It tells the story of the special interests that launched campaigns against evolving climate science and the momentum created by this science, starting in the late 1980s and sustained through the 2000s.

Guided by documents uncovered by reporters, academics, and activists in recent years, Drilled exposes the campaign of climate denial as a successful public relations endeavor undertaken by the fossil fuel industry and allies.

The podcast utilizes primary source documents, such as internal corporate correspondence, leaked plans, government records, and interviews with former fossil fuel industry scientists to illuminate this little known history.

The collection of documents hosted on Climate Files and featured in Drilled outline a story of corporate knowledge and deceit. This history is critical in understanding why climate science has become a “political” issue today and the origin of denial rhetoric that permeates society today, right up to President Trump.

Interviewed for the podcast, Climate Investigations Center’s Kert Davies leads the listener through documents which illustrate corporate knowledge of climate science as early as the 1950s as well as industry campaigns to actively mislead the public.

As these documents show, some of the largest oil companies, including Royal Dutch Shell and Exxon, were studying the severity of climate change long before it became an issue most people were aware of and well before the policy arena started to take action in the late 1980s.

Read the Drilled documents yourself:

Highlights from Climate Investigations Center research and Climate Files that were covered in Drilled:

Internal Shell Documents:

In 1998, Shell predicted an inevitable backlash, including climate liability lawsuits against “fossil-fuel companies on the grounds of neglecting what scientists (including their own) have been saying for years,” long before the first climate lawsuit was ever filed.

What Exxon Knew:

Illustrating their awareness of the risks posed by climate change, Exxon’s own scientists suggested in 1981 “it is distinctly possible” that climate change could “produce effects which will indeed be catastrophic,” and despite that knowledge, the corporation for decades funded attempts to discredit the scientific consensus that their own research helped shape.

The Global Climate Coalition:

Exxon, not alone in its agenda, emphasized uncertainty with a suite of fossil-reliant corporations and trade associations by funding contrarian scientists, think tanks, and front groups that adopted the industry’s support of fossil fuel consumption.

The Global Climate Coalition (GCC), a prominent ringleader of 1990s corporate climate denial pressure, was a consortium of fossil fuel corporations and trade associations. Along with other groups, the GCC devoted extensive time, money and effort into changing the climate narrative.

Contrary to the scientific certainty expressed internally by Exxon’s scientists in the 1970’s, in 1996, the GCC statedthat there was “no convincing evidence that future increases in greenhouse gas concentrations will produce significant climatic effects.” The industry coalition actively worked to derail international climate negotiations, oppose action to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and promote the views of climate skeptics.

Trade Association Denial Campaigns:

Knowledge of additional industry funded climate denial is extensive. A trail of documents such as the American Petroleum Institute’s 1998 leaked “Global Climate Science Communications Plan” and the Edison Electric Institute’s half a million dollar denial “Information Council on the Environment” (ICE) campaign in 1991 detail industry attempts to derail public faith in climate science and expose a history corporations now wish they could make disappear.

Willie Soon investigation:

Receiving over a million dollars from fossil fuel entities, Willie Soon is one of the most blatant examples of a climate denying scientist being paid by industry interests up until a few years ago.

Fred Palmer:

Fred Palmer, a career climate denier, ran the “ICE” campaign while at the Western Fuels Association, a consortium of coal utilities and suppliers. He later worked as Peabody Coal’s Senior Vice President for Government Relations, before joining the climate denying Heartland Institute where he runs theircoal campaign. Palmer once said “every time you turn your car on, and you burn fossil fuels, and you put CO2 in the air, you are doing the work of the Lord.” a sentiment he has expressed repeatedly.

Listen to the podcast Drilled for yourself.

The impacts of climate change we are seeing today are happening faster than scientists predicted one or two decades ago. These consequences are too profound to allow the history of who has held us back from solving this crisis to slip silently into the past. Drilled is one step forward in remembering this history, keeping it alive in our consciousness as we look ahead to charting a better future.

1st scalp?

Ann Coulter unloaded on Trump in a podcast with The Daily Caller, accusing him of being “a joke presidency who scammed the American people.” Coulter said that she will not vote for Trump in 2020 without a border wall, adding, “nor will, I think, most of his supporters.” (Coulter had also vowed earlier in the week to not support Trump in 2020 if the wall was not built.) Within hours of these comments, the president unfollowed Coulter on Twitter.

my opinion) the best Conservative Podcasts as of Summer 2018. (#10 being the best; based on entertainment, knowledge, and quality.)

  1. The Sean Hannity Show — Although he is most known for his TV show on Fox News, Sean provides additional entertainment for 90 minutes with his well known producer/sidekick, Lynda. If you are looking to stay updated on good and bad news from both sides of politics, Sean is a good source (Claims to have voted for Trump in 2016.).
  2. The Jason Stapleton Program— A self-proclaimed Libertarian made this list, simply for his entertainment and quality of discussion. Jason does not associated himself with fringe groups, unless of course, that fringe groups is for Freedom and Liberty. Great podcast for those who are Conservative but don’t always vote for Republicans (Claims to have voted for a Libertarian in 2016.).
  3. The Wilkow Majority with Andrew Wilkow— Provides ‘perfectly executed political analysis’ and his entertainment value is at the top of the charts. The downfall, he can only be heard on certain platforms, including Spotify, iHeartRadio, and Sirius XM Channel 125 (Patriot) (Claims to have voted for Trump in 2016.).
  4. The Jordan B. Peterson Podcast — Never heard of him? I had not either, until 2017. A professor at The University of Toronto and author of the best-selling book “12 Rules for Life”, Peterson has attracted a following of millions, mostly young men who want to get their life in order and are tired of being babied. They need someone to look them in the eyes, and tell them what’s right and how to be… that man, without doubt, is Jordan B. Peterson (No vote, he’s a Canadian; but has said he would have voted for Trump.).
  5. The Conservative Conscience with Daniel Horowitz— Whenever there is uncertainty brewing in my mind, this is where I turn. His 60 minute podcasts will host people at the bottom levels of government and the top. This year he has focused primarily on the Opioid crisis and Border Security. Usually airs 2–3 times per week (Claims to have voted for Trump.).
  6. The Rush Limbaugh Show — Since the repeal of the Fairness Doctrine, Rush has been the lead voice for the Conservative movement in the media. He is rarely incorrect with his predictions, so ‘Do not doubt him’. Enjoys a tasty liberal every now and then… good source of Vitamins (Claims to have voted for Trump.).
  7. The Savage Nation with Michael Savage — The only host on this list that is banned from entering Britain. A rare accomplishment to say the least. He has been pro-Trump since the elevator ride and has never looked back, excluding the times that he criticized the President when he does something wrong. Great point of view on some issues and knows what his listeners want to hear about (Claims he voted for Trump.).
  8. The Dan Bongino Show — Formerly known as the Renegade Republican. Provides a fresh perspective on today’s politics and current events. Dives deep into topics and may be the only podcast ever where the Producer is more famous than the host. Keep it up Joe! (Claims to have voted for Trump in 2016.).
  9. The Ben Shapiro Show — Well known for his ability to not be allowed on Liberal Campuses, and his ability to tell the truth, Ben is the millennial movement in full force. His podcast is filmed live on Daily Wire and YouTube, but you can listen to it all via your podcast. He may possible be the first ever Orthodox Jewish person who is also Anti-Semite (Withheld his vote due to Trump not being Conservative enough, but compliments him each time Trump does something great. Admits when Trump proved him wrong.).
  10. The Mark Levin Show — The great mind truly at work. Mark has been engaged in politics since his childhood. Worked in the Reagan Administration, dedicates his life to his family, his faith, and his fans. You can buy his books, or just listen to him explain them every night for 90 minutes, then on Sunday on Fox, and again on LevinTV each night for an hour. Levin is all around us… He’s not some conspiracy nut (Claims he voted for Trump.).

Newsmax's Top 50 Conservative Podcasts

(Destina/Dollar Photo Club)

Podcasts first gained popularity with the rise of the iPod in the early 2000s, allowing people of all qualifications and interests to spread their ideas to anyone who would listen. In 2015, this form of Internet radio enables some impassioned conservatives to reach as many listeners as conservative broadcast idols like Rush Limbaugh, Mark Levin, Laura Ingraham, Michael Savage, as well as the stars of Fox News Radio.

According to the Pew Research Center, the overall percentage of American podcast listeners has steadily increased over the last decade, and some predict that the low-cost technology will eventually replace traditional AM/FM radio, as well as satellite radio.

When it comes to conservative podcasts, there is no shortage in choices, and we've gathered some of the best below.

For this list, we have taken consideration of the number and ratings of reviews a show has gotten across podcast distributors like iTunes, and have also grouped some podcasts by associated organizations. Podcast frequency, length, audio quality, and content of conversations were also determining factors. While the list allots the most weight to native podcasts, we have also included some terrestrial AM/FM radio shows and satellite radio shows that have been repackaged as podcasts. We have also given some editorial preference to new and emerging names in order to make the list a place of discovery.

Below is Newsmax's list of the top 50 conservative podcasts:
