Plans and Cloud Services
Overview
Paid plans add capacity: how much of your data can sync through TheBrain's cloud, how large your AI usage allowance is, and whether you can collaborate with others in shared brains.
What Every Account Includes
- The app — unlimited thoughts and brains on your own devices, with notes, file attachments, types and tags, advanced layouts, reports, AI features, and import and export.
- Cloud sync with a free allowance — a free account can sync a limited number of limited-access thoughts and a limited amount of attachment storage; public thoughts in public brains don't count toward the thought limit. Your exact allowance and current usage are shown in Settings > User > Cloud Capacity — see Cloud Capacity.
- An AI usage allowance — see AI Usage Limits.
What Paid Plans Add
Paid tiers — Pro, TeamBrain, and Max — add:
- Larger sync capacity — no limited-access-thought cap, and much more attachment storage.
- A larger AI allowance — every paid plan has a larger AI usage allowance than the free plan.
- TeamBrain — collaborating with other people in shared team brains requires a TeamBrain plan. Max includes everything TeamBrain gives, so a Max subscriber doesn't need TeamBrain as well. See TeamBrain Overview.
- Cloud API access — creating cloud API keys requires an active Cloud Services subscription. (The desktop app's local API is free — see API Keys.)
Plans are offered on monthly and annual billing, and you can change or cancel anytime. To subscribe or renew, see Upgrading and Purchase.

- On a free account both allowances, attachment storage and limited-access thoughts, are hard limits: once you're over either one, your brains stop syncing until you remove enough thoughts or attachments, or upgrade. On paid plans, Cloud Capacity warns you as you near or pass your storage allowance.
- If paid services lapse, nothing is deleted — your account simply returns to the free plan's sync and AI allowances.
