Note Format, Versions, and Export
These topics cover what happens to a note behind the scenes: the Markdown format it is saved in, editing Markdown files from your computer in windows of their own, the earlier versions TheBrain keeps, exporting and printing notes, and the settings that apply to every note in a brain.
- Standard Markdown Notes — Notes can be saved as standard Markdown — GitHub-flavored Markdown plus common note-taking extensions — so a note file opens and edits correctly in other Markdown tools.
- Markdown File Windows — In the desktop app, open, edit and save Markdown (.md) files from anywhere on your computer in a window of their own, using the notes editor, without adding them to a brain.
- Note Versions — Browse a note's earlier versions read-only — who edited each and when, with its changes marked — and copy text from them back into the note.
- Exporting and Printing Notes — Export a thought's note, or the notes of several selected thoughts joined together, as one PDF, HTML, Markdown, or text file from the Export Notes dialog, or print them, with a preview, what to include, text and image scale, page options, and more options.
- Brain Content Settings — Settings > Brain > Content Settings is where you change a brain's options for notes and attachments — the line spacing and line gap of note text, which thought names count as mentions, video embeds, link renaming, the note format, hero images, and whether the web app reuses one browser tab for the web pages you open.
