Your Settings
These settings are under User in the settings dialog. They belong to you rather than to a brain, so they apply to every brain you open.
- General and Appearance — Set the app's UI theme (including Follow Brain Theme, which follows the brain's content theme) and language, and tune thought behavior such as showing siblings in the plex and putting the names of visited thoughts in italics, in Settings > User > General.
- Options Settings — Settings > User > Options holds your preferences for search result previews on hover, the Timeline style and its mini calendar, the first day of the calendar week and week numbers, and template file names.
- Content Area Settings — Tune the content area — the properties header behavior, the maximum note width, and how attachments open.
- Notes Settings — Configure the notes editor — toolbar placement, spellcheck, the bottom status bar and its counters, current-line highlight, date format, the list editing mode and outline controls, clipboard behavior, and the plain-text editor's options.
- Markdown Files Settings — Settings for Markdown files from outside TheBrain — how hard-wrapped lines are read in Markdown file windows, .md attachments and imports, the warning and backup copies for files with content the editor can't keep, the theme, text scale and line spacing of Markdown file windows, and making TheBrain the default app for Markdown files.
- Keyboard Shortcuts — View, search, and customize keyboard shortcuts — rebind commands, see which key combinations are accepted, resolve conflicts, and import, export, or reset your bindings, which are saved with your account and follow you to your other devices.
- Customizing Toolbars — Add, remove, reorder, and reset toolbar buttons — and add AI scripts as buttons — in Settings > User > Toolbars.
